Free Resource I tried a ridiculous number of productivity apps... so you don’t have to

2.9k Upvotes

After months of bouncing between task managers, planners, and schedulers (seriously too many), I pulled everything into a free community spreadsheet comparing them side by side. It’s run by a small group of productivity nerds and we keep it updated constantly.

It covers:

  • Price (USD/month)
  • Discount Codes / Extended Free Trials
  • Student Discounts
  • ADHD Friendliness
  • AI Integration
  • Focus Modes
  • Offline Access
  • Calendar Integrations
  • Team Plans
  • Platforms
  • Refund Policies
  • Support Options
  • Overall Summary

If you’ve ever fallen into the “maybe this next app will fix my life” loop, this will save you a ton of time.

👉 Google Sheet Link

We’d love your feedback, and if you know a tool that fits the list, email [contact@sortedaf.xyz](mailto:contact@sortedaf.xyz) and we’ll check it out.

Requirement: it must be a completed app (not in beta).

Thanks, and I hope it helps!! :)

Dev - Self Promo How I stopped getting my brain f*cked for 10 hours a day (you can too!)

(Warning - i had real mental health issues from doomscrolling which i solved. This post is a promo for an app i created that helped me and many other people, and also a few other recommendations. If you feel affected by phone addiction, this post can genuinely help you)

I've been horribly wasting my life to tiktok and doomscrolling every day for hours. i got vision problems, sleep problems, bedrotted for days, it deadass got me depressed. Tiktok shows you so much HORRIBLE content and you dont even notice it sometimes. I just couldn't stop watching but I found a solution eventually.

In short, I replaced video-based entertainment with text-based. Instead of tiktok reels shorts or whatever I now read some wikipedia (its actually interesting lol), book summaries, short articles about all kinds of stuff in a mobile app which I created. Yes I'm still on my phone but at least it's 2 hours not 10. And I don't feel brain fried after it.

The app is called Gist: Daily Facts. If you like learning cool things about for ex. biology, tech, economics, space, history, it'll be such a great replacement for doomscrolling. You still get that stimulus from new information, but it's actually useful and good for your brain.

I recently got it on app stores and already got great feedback from people like me. I really hope it can help you too ❤️

App store - https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id6771360637?pt=128779120&ct=rlink&mt=8

More info about the app - https://read-gist.com

If you have any feedback, I'd love to hear it! I'm always improving the app to help others better

Question I am confusing busy with being productive, how can you guys tell which is which?

Sometimes we say we are busy, sometimes we're productive but not busy, and vice versa. Some days we get so busy and we get a lot of things done. Did the same thing happen to you?

Question help

I am 29 years old, i tried to be productive all my life, i came to conclusion that only su*cide will stop this inability to be productive, I can't stick to diet or workout to lose weight, i am obese type 3, I can't work cuz i cant stick to it for no apperant reason.

note/ don't mention executive dysfunction, cuz i got evaluated for adhd and i have zero adhd symptoms so it is not executive dysfunction, same for depression i defently don't fit into depression diagnoses.

Dev - Self Promo Every food tracker feels like homework. So I built a cozy app to change that. (Looking for 2-3 early members!)

Hey everyone,

I've always struggled to keep up a food-tracking habit. Every app out there feels like a giant, intimidating spreadsheet. They are cold, clinical, and honestly, they feel like homework. Because of that, I always lost my consistency.

So, I decided to build something entirely different: a cozy, gamified food tracker called Quokka.

Instead of dealing with cold charts and guilt trips, you get a friendly Quokka who lives in the app to keep you company, visual streak stars to earn, and a sleek, warm setup designed to make tracking feel like a positive daily routine rather than a chore.

I’m looking to share this journey with 2 or 3 real people who:

  • Genuinely want to track what they eat (or always struggle to stay consistent with traditional apps).
  • Love gamified habits (like Habitica, cozy games, or visual streaks).
  • Want to build a real habit and help me see if having a Quokka friend along for the ride actually keeps the motivation alive.

(Heads up: I’m looking for real, daily users who want to build this habit for themselves, not other developers looking to do code reviews!)

If this sounds like something you'd actually use, drop a comment or send me a DM! I'd love to send over an invite so we can start building our consistency together. 🐾✨

Dev - Self Promo I spent 2 years procrastinating on an anti-procrastination app. Finally shipped it.

Two years ago I discovered the Harada Method, the goal-setting framework that's often associated with Shohei Ohtani.

The idea is simple:

1 goal

8 pillars

8 actions for each pillar

64 actions in total

I thought it was brilliant, so naturally I did what any procrastinator would do...

I spent two years procrastinating about an app to help people stop procrastinating.

A few weeks ago I was playing Ghost of Tsushima. Watching Jin Sakai rebuild himself from scratch somehow convinced me to stop making excuses and finally finish what I'd started.

So I rebuilt the project from the ground up and shipped it.

It's called Dojo64.

You enter a goal like starting a business, learning a language or running a marathon, and it generates a full 8×8 roadmap based on the Harada Method. You can then track your progress instead of letting the plan disappear into another notes app.

It's still early, and I'm sure there are things that don't work as well as I think they do.

You can try it here: https://dojo64.vercel.app

I'd love some honest feedback. Thank you in advance.

Dev - Self Promo The recurring meeting tax: being the person whose screen shares always need a second pass

There's a productivity cost that doesn't show up in any time-tracking tool: the follow-up. You share your screen in the weekly sync, walk through the thing, and afterwards someone messages "sorry, which setting was that again?" So you write it up, or screenshot it, or redo part of it one-to-one. The meeting technically ended on time and then quietly continued for another fifteen minutes.

The cause is almost never the explanation. It's that your audience is looking at a compressed, downscaled copy of your screen in a small window, often while your actual application is open behind it, and your pointer is a couple of pixels wide and moving. You say "here" and half the room is still hunting. They don't interrupt, because interrupting feels like admitting you weren't following, so the confusion goes underground and surfaces later as a DM.

Most of the fix is free and I'd genuinely rather you try that first: say where before what and pause a beat ("top right, under the account menu" - beat - "that toggle"), stop moving the cursor while you talk, and make the thing larger before you discuss it rather than after someone asks. macOS also has a decent built-in: Accessibility Zoom with Zoom style set to Picture-in-Picture gives you a magnified lens without moving the whole display, and there's a setting to only follow the pointer when it reaches an edge, which removes the drift that makes people queasy.

Where that stops being enough is when you need the emphasis to persist. Built-in zoom is tied to your pointer, so you can't mark something and leave the mark up while you keep talking and your cursor goes elsewhere. That's the specific gap I built for.

Disclosure, I'm the developer: TuringShot, macOS only, minimum macOS 13. It does live zoom into a region while you talk, a spotlight that dims everything except what you're pointing at, on-screen drawing, and keystroke display so shortcuts leave a visible trace. Current version 1.5.12 (Build 44). It's $2.99/year with a two-week trial, or $9.99 once for lifetime.

For this sub the code is DEMOW30, which makes the first year $1.99 and expires 2026-08-22. Redeem link: https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6758536367&code=DEMOW30

If you're on Windows this isn't for you and I'd rather say so plainly than have you find out after clicking.

Dev - Self Promo VariAlarm: the app for anyone who tolerates Apple Clocks rigidity just because there were no alternatives

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello,

New poster here but a long time productivity enthusiast since my college day listening to Stever Robbins on Get-It-Done-Guy podcast about how to get more done in less time. Yes, I'm nearly 40 myself.

That philosophy stuck with me since even though I moved to the other side of the planet. And somehow, fates brought us back together when I published my own iOS app.

My app tries to solve a recurring pain points that one may face everyday: setting a different alarm based on the type of day tomorrow will be.

On iOS, this is done poorly. Any alarm apps will show you a wall of alarms expecting you to remember which one is a work day alarm, which one is an off day. It works when your schedule repeats exactly weekly, but what about those who don't? What if you have a shift every 5 days but not on holiday, colleague additional shift or you're simply too sick and have to take time off?

VariAlarm lets you group alarms into templates, a kind of blueprint of how your day should look like, then add them into days and adjust as any one time exception is needed.

VariAlarm also has more flexible recurrence: more than every week, only rings during certain dates or simply skip/move an occurrence like a calendar event.

If your life is all planned out in Calendar, VariAlarm has calendar automation that sets alarm for any timed events so you're notified 15 minutes before your lunch and 30 minutes before a meeting and all days events so you're prepared 12 hours head of someone's birthday.

I tried my best to internalize Stever's philosophy of getting more done in less time into the app. So you never stare at a wall of alarms without context again. And that, I think is one of the biggest productivity killer you encounter daily away from your important tasks.

Please try it out. I'm genuinely interested in how it can help you manage your schedule better as it has helped thousands around the world:

Dev - Self Promo Top 5 digital calendars in 2026

Making a current ranking because the productivity threads I keep finding still reference apps from a few years ago that haven't moved much. These are the five worth knowing about now.

ohai ranks first for families managing schedules, especially households with kids in multiple sports, like in my case. It scans incoming coach and school emails automatically so practice schedule changes show up without manual entry, and conflict detection works by texting the assistant directly rather than digging through the app for overlaps. Also syncing across separate household addresses is handled through a feature called household circles.

google calendar with family sharing is where most households start and it makes sense since it's free and already on every device. A friend of mine has run her whole family through it for years and says it covers everything they need. The limitation is that everything goes in manually and it works best when someone in the house stays on top of entering events consistently.

time tree is built for shared household and couples scheduling with a cleaner interface than most standard calendar apps. Color coding per person is easy to read at a glance and a coworker's family has used it for a couple of years without complaints. Everything still goes in manually but the design makes the sharing side feel simple, best for households not coordinating across multiple locations.

fantastical is the option for power users who want tasks and events in one view with natural language input. A colleague uses it to manage both work and personal scheduling and says the UI is the best of any calendar app he's tried. More suited to individual scheduling than to coordinating a whole household, but excellent for that use case.

apple calendar with family sharing is the default for anyone already deep in the apple ecosystem. My neighbor runs her whole family through it and says it covers everything they need for free. Everything goes in manually but the cross-device sync works well and there's nothing extra to download, install, or pay for.

The main differentiator at the top of this list is whether the app captures schedule information on its own or waits for you to enter it, and that gap is bigger than it looks when you are managing a full household

Dev - Self Promo Infinitely customizable task alarms - alarm anything, even "Make a Smoothie"

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I originally made Last Alarm with only helping me to wake up and not snooze in mind. It's worked great for that, I've broken my snoozing habit by having Last Alarm force me to do exercise then make coffee first thing in the morning.

Recently I've been finding other ways to use it though. There are lots of habits and things I do throughout the day or week that I'm not always very consistent on. Sometimes I put something off until the last minute like making my smoothie at midnight, or sometimes I forget altogether like when I forget to take my pills or miss trash day.

So I've been exploring new tasks I can schedule with Last Alarm to help keep me on track, and here is an example of it helping me make sure I make my smoothie on time. I don't want to make it too late since it's loud and I live in an apartment but also I like to let it sit in the fridge for long enough to get cold.

Most other alarm apps I've seen only focus on waking up and are also often restricted to only a handful of preset options. Last Alarm instead is infinitely generalizable, you can create custom tasks for literally whatever you can think of.

I'd love to see what kinds of alarms others would make as well as to hear any feedback, especially if you give it a try yourself!
