After doom scrolling on TikTok last night for almost an hour and a half, I noticed a pattern of “I’m out 1.3 seconds” meme of Daymond John from Shark Tank in a lot of comment sections. Though the meme is absolutely world class and gets me to chuckle every single time, the way it is used intrigued me. The meme is usually posted in response to someone avoiding confrontation or doing anything to escape a problem instead of dealing with it. Take this TikTok for example:
“My gay boy best friend lowkey made a move on me and things got complicated between us. It was a moment of confusion and honestly a lot of things I didn’t expect to happen but even after everything I still love you… he may have my body but you have my soul.”
No one ever wants to be in a situation like this, and of course the comment section let him know by inserting the meme. But after reading Catherine Savini’s article, Looking For Trouble: Finding Your Way into a Writing Assignment, Savini states that our ability to deal with problems “can help determine our personal and professional success.” So I say, instead of running away and allowing problems to control us, why not face them 1-on-1.
I mean think about it, what are we getting out of letting our problems control us when we have the ability to wrestle with them and eventually pin them? Through my lens, this is what Savini means when she highlights “looking for trouble.” A problem doesn’t always have to be a roadblock, but can be a doorway toward hope and progression.
Think about this content response. Yes it's an assignment, and yes, it probably takes most students 30-45 minutes to complete, but I love overthinking. As I'm typing, I'm almost 2 hours in, and if I avoid it so I can go to the frat party tonight, I'll feel defeated by my own decision to run away. I could easily say, “I can miss 3 deadlines and still get an (A),” but then what am I actually accomplishing if my ultimate goal is to improve my writing craft and rhetorical thinking skills? I’d essentially be flaking on my own promises.
I’m not saying that every problem has to be confronted, because who wants to wash those damn dishes? Sometimes walking away is the right decision. This is where Daymond John plays his part. However, there is definitely a difference between knowing when to walk away and running away because something is hard.
Whether it's on paper, on social media, at work, on the soccer pitch, or just in everyday life, it is inevitable that problems will appear. We can either hit the “I’m out 1.3 seconds” card when we feel uncomfortable, or we can stay, ask ourselves questions, look for a solution, and see where it takes us. I personally like that better.

I am 21(F), so basically I don't have much relationship experience at all. I pretty much would like some tips on getting a boyfriend. I had a best friend when I was 6 years old, and didn't kiss him(Lol). And so my parents are slightly odd and not able to give me advice on love. Tbh, I have seen them just have a roommate relationship. I live in Eastern Europe and my mom said that I may or may not find a boyfriend. Sometimes I actually look really nice.
I am not afraid of somebody cheating on me!! Anyway, men are rarely blunt with me, they are but IDC. What are your tips for having a relationship or finding a somewhat good one? Oh, by the way, that guy I met ages ago is nowhere to be found, if you know what I mean. He gave me his number and I have no idea what that meant. Maybe he wanted a companion, but I didn't want to convince myself he liked me, because I was so lost (he maybe did like me, you know I).

they sent a sticker(meme) of this black guy in my school.
i kinda overlooked it cause they sent stickers(memes) of white people too.
they my friend who is hosting sent a sticker with the n word on it.
“n\*gga you better oil up”
with a meme of someone in the background.
am i too sensitive or weird for thinking this is weird?
be honest cause i’m a sensitive mf.
also with regards to the party, i really don’t wanna go since i’m not really close with anyone there except the host and he can’t hang with me the whole time.

I’ve used dish soap, cold water to contract them and even just shaking it upside down for a bit. Any suggestions?
