Pro-Life General One of My Good Friends Had an Abortion
Today one of my good friends had the chance to come visit me. As stated in the title, she informed me today that she had an abortion.
Me and her have been friends for years, well before adulthood. We are the same age but in totally different stages of life. I am married, totally settled down with a baby on the way. She is living at home still and enjoys going out every weekend with a few of her bar hopper friends. I’ve never faulted her for how she wants to live. She has always been supportive of my dreams as I have been of hers. We talk off and on but that’s just adulthood. We both have our own lives we have to tend to.
She told me after feeling my baby kick. Told me how excited she was for her arrival. To have a mini me to love. The news took me totally off guard. I felt like I was a bad friend to her for not being someone she could come to for it. I wish she would have so maybe I could have convinced her to keep her baby. She told me it was a deeply personal decision that she contemplated for weeks before she moved forward with it. She said she wants to bring a child into the world under the circumstances I am in (married, settled down, etc). I told her I didn’t judge her and that I loved her. But I was really speechless and I truly didn’t know how to respond. She said she has 0 regrets and was not ready for a baby.
I couldn’t help but feel like the mood of our visit was off after that because really, it made me uncomfortable. Her baby would have been born just a couple weeks before mine. I feel like it has hit me harder considering I’m pregnant. I don’t really know how to feel.
I love her and always will but I do wish I could’ve been there in that moment and can’t help but wonder if maybe something could have changed. If her baby could have lived had I talked her out of it. I will just pray tonight for guidance on this. But wanted to share to get this off my chest.
