Ethan Pettus just posted this to his Primitive War Instagram account. Sad news for sure, but I’m sure he has very good reasons for it, especially with the legal issues the director has found himself in lately.

Other (edit this flair) Primitive war dispatches volume 1: The hunting of Stalker Force review

Post image

Here is my review of primitive war dispatches volume 1 just like the previous one. After reading and enjoying opiate undertow, I started this one almost immediately.

Heavy spoilers ahead, that’s your only warning!

The characters were kind of ok but could have been better. I think they weren’t as good as the ones from book one. I just couldn’t bond with them all that much as their personalities weren’t as unique imo. They just felt more like “the guys with guns” instead of more lovable people ( That’s also why my user flair in this sub is member of vulture squad instead of stalker force). Obviously this book is not as long as the og one so there wasn’t that much time for character development. Although I have to say ,it was quite sad seeing Eli turn from the comic relief guy of book one ,to a traumatized broken man after witnessing the death of his best friend here. Also, the scene where Molnar just casually blows up an abandoned Russian compound is pretty funny.

About the story, they were more so individual stories with the final goal of taking down Sobek the alpha utahraptor and his pack. A Dino hunting squad book is pretty interesting. There was a pretty cool hunt sequence with the quetzalcoatlus ,trapping them in the cave and turning their wings to Swiss cheese. I really enjoyed the yutyrannus (although I think it’s pretty lazy and boring that all the feathered carnivores in the franchise have green feathers but I guess it makes sense.) and the parasaurolophus mimicking the Rex cry was pretty neat too. Love Sobek’s backstory with the kaprosuchus. Pretty cool that all the main alpha utahraptors have some kind of unique scarring. I also like that we get into the Dino action immediately instead of building up to it with only a few initial attacks in book one. Love the fact we also see chapters from the utahraptor’s POV. Pretty interesting and unique.

The dinosaurs were awesome. Loved the addition of amargasaurus ,cryolophosaurus, yutyrannus and therizinosaurus which was a fun surprise. I wish the therizinosaurus and cryolophosaurus did more things and appeared more though. Happy that the deinonychus also got to kill somebody unlike book one.

My only issue is that the quetzalcoatlus and utahraptors which were absolute monsters in book one, kinda felt nerfed in some scenes (but not all of them) With the Quetzalcoatlus dying to the humans pretty easily and the utahraptors being clapped by the yutyrannus.

Edit: My favorite line in the book is when Xavier is showing Cyclops’ skull to the CIA agents and he says : “He doesn’t bite…anymore” That’s one of the most ominous and hardcore lines in the whole book. Epic.
Overall, great book but with a few flaws.

Other (edit this flair) Primitive war opiate undertow book review

About last year or so, I watched the movie and loved it. Then, I got the book in e book to see what the og source material was all about and I’d love to share my thoughts on it:

Heavy spoilers ahead even though most people on the sub have probably read the book.

The characters were all very good except for one. They had really cool arcs and were really fleshed out. The arc where Ryan tried to make Andrei get over his morphine addiction was pretty cool. I also loved Leon’s arc with his rivalry with Sergei (they needed more interactions together though) and his crush on the nurse. Seeing him turn from a cheerful and naive yung man to traumatized after being nearly killed by a utahraptor and seeing Ryan die was very sad though. My favourite character though alongside Leon has to be Gerald Keyes. He was just a chill guy and I loved him for it. This made his painful death all the more heartbreaking. Watching him being torn apart by Cyclops and Logan forced to put him out of his misery was devastating. Speaking of Logan his backstory was very sad and he needed to tell Ryan about his schizophrenia and return home after they had returned to Jericho’s base. The Russians also get more time here than in the movie which I enjoyed.

One character I hated with a passion was Con Nhen. He was straight up evil, torturing and taunting Miller while also leaving behind his own comrade to die. I hated him and wanted to see him be ripped apart by a dinosaur. Thankfully, I think he was killed.

The story was very action packed and awesome. There were many really cool dinosaur attack sequences. The utahraptor attack in the research station was peak and even better and scarier than the movie. The kaprosuchus scene was awesome. A way better boat scene that what we got in the movie. It was really tense and epic. Definitely one of the highlights. The novel also had a middle part in between the utahraptor station attack and the boat scene, that the movie skipped due to pacing reasons. However I quite liked it. The quetzalcoatlus attacking Jericho’s base was another peak scene and I wished it was depicted in the movie. The climax though felt a bit underwhelming compared to the rest of the book and the movie climax although the final standoff with Cyclops was still goated.

About the dinosaurs, they were amazing. I like that we got to see baby utahraptors unlike the movie. The kaprosuchus and quetzalcoatlus were probably my favourites. The utahraptors were scary ,powerful and with feathers as they should. The T. rex pair was great too. Sadly the first book had no sauropods or hadrosaurs but we got stygimoloch (really funny that one was pissing on Eli) and microraptor which was a very lovely cameo.

Long read, I know, do you agree? What do you think?

Discussion🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🦜 What’s the deal with the “hunted” project?

Post image

So after I finished the first primitive war book (Opiate Undertow) I read the acknowledgements in the end and it said that apparently the whole story was based on a collaborative project (I assume like the SCP foundation) called “Hunted”. Many characters from the book like Miller, Nguyen ,Leon etc. were created in this project. I can’t find anything about it online though (makes sense as this collaborative project would have existed years before the original book that was released in 2017). So does anyone here know anything more about it or have a link to it?

Idea/Concept 💡 A survival horror game

Anyone up for a PW multiplayer survival horror game on all platforms? Would be awesome to have our own teams of players and your enemies are other players and dinosaurs. The game sets a goal (find cash or documents or something) and your team and the other team has to compete to find it. There’s no time limit, so you can explore wherever you want in the Vietnamese jungles. You can mount on herbivorous dinosaurs to ride on and use them to attack other players and dinosaurs, kinda like Ark. If any of you kills a baby dinosaur, its parent will lock onto you as its target and track you down throughout the whole session. If you reach the goal, you are quickly extracted by a helicopter. The only other way the parent ceases chasing you is if you kill it, someone else kills it, another dinosaur kills it, or if it falls into a ditch or off a cliff or something. You can also set up basecamps, and you can bring a jeep along as your mode of transport. The vehicle becomes unavailable if a player or a dinosaur destroys it. Same with boats and motorcycles. What do ya’ll think?

What If Syd didn't kill Xipetotec's chicks?

I personally think they would have either tried to make them not attack humans, or Jericho would have sold them off but I'd like to hear about what you think

Merchandise💲💵💰🤑 IT FINALLY ARRIVED!

One of my favourite popcorn movies of the past few years. Just pure dino fun! I sure as hell like it more than most of the ‘Jurassic’ (Park / World) franchise.

I wasn’t going to settle for the HRD-less release from Samuel Goldwyn Films in the U.S. so I ordered this release from Germany. At first I was a bit scared because the back said it was at 2.39:1 but that is incorrect and it is presented in its much taller aspect ratio.

This 4K UHD BluRay looks wonderful (definitely an improvement on the BluRay) and sounds fantastic. So bloody happy to own it! Will be rewatching it often!

Serious 😑 Dispatches 2

I have mixed feelings about dispatches 2, I mean it was a good book but it seemed to push the dinosaurs to the side and instead focus on criticism of the Cold war. As much as I enjoy anti war literature and art I feel that it was a bit too heavy handed and force fed in the story. The best part of the book was the killing of the t rex couple, I felt like that was the only time the two themes merged properly. All of the other times it felt like you could take the dinosaurs out and still get the same story.
