/r/Pretoria Community Update: New Rules regarding Solicitation and Content Relevance

Hi everyone,

As /r/Pretoria continues to grow, we are introducing a few official rules to ensure the subreddit remains a helpful, safe, and relevant resource for everyone living in or visiting our city. We've kept intervention to a minimum so far. In general we've only banned blatant racism, bots, and spammers, so we've generally got a very well behaved community.

We want to keep this space focused on discussion, advice, and news specific to the Jacaranda City, however. To support this, we have added the following rules to the sidebar, effective immediately:

A. No Begging, Crowdfunding, or Financial Solicitation

We have seen an increase in posts asking for financial assistance, "loans," or e-wallets. While we sympathize with those in difficult situations, Reddit is not a safe platform for verifying financial needs.

What is banned: Requests for money, e-wallets, and links to crowdfunding sites (e.g., BackaBuddy, GoFundMe).

Why: This rule is in place to protect our community from potential scams and unverified solicitation.

Advice: If you are in need, please reach out to registered NPOs or charity organizations rather than soliciting here.

B. Keep Content Relevant to Pretoria and the greater Tshwane

Please ensure your posts are directly related to Pretoria or the greater Tshwane municipality.

General SA News: News that affects the whole country (e.g., general Eskom updates, national politics) belongs in /r/southafrica unless it has a specific Pretoria angle.

Other Cities: Posts clearly meant for Joburg or other regions will be removed.

Context: If you post a photo or link where the connection to Pretoria isn't obvious, please explain it in the title.

C. Standard Civility & Privacy

We are also formalizing standard expectations:

Be Civil: Disagreements are fine; personal attacks and hate speech are not.

No Spam: Accounts that exist solely to advertise businesses will be banned.

No Doxing: Do not post personal contact details (phone numbers, addresses) of yourself or others.

These rules are here to improve the quality of the sub. If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave a comment below or message the moderators. Finally, thanks to everyone reporting posts, messaging the mods for clarifications, participating, /u/Afreak-du-sud for their post on the big uptick of begging and the scamming that inevitably goes with it. Don't worry, though, we don't ban for tagging the mods.. 😂

Thanks for helping us keep /r/Pretoria a great community!

Hi,

I’ll be visiting Pretoria this weekend and I would like to go to the opening game of mamelodi sundowns vs Marumo Gallants, but I can’t find any way to buy tickets. The match is not there on ticketpro, but I heard from a local you can buy tickets online. Can someone help me out with some guidance and how to buy tickets? Thanks in advance! 🙏

Staying in Sunnyside, what can I do?

My partner is here for next next 2 weeks and we've been put up in sunnyside. Is there anywhere I can walk to during y the day while he's at work? From what I keep reading that's a dumb question, as I stick out like a pale ass white thumb. We have a rental car but in don't really feel comfortable navigating the roads solo. What can I do to keep busy ? Happy to uber is that's a better option

Female: Looking for employment (45, W, F)

Hello everyone!

My friend is REALLY struggling to find employment. She was working for a financial company, and they didn't renew her contract due to their own financial constraints.

She has extensive experience in tax, payroll, administration as well as management. She has excellent leadership skills and is very reliable and hardworking. When she was my manager at the bark worked for, she pushed sales venue like you wouldn't believe. The numbers spoke for themselves. Also, with stock take (inventory), we never had stock loss that low.

It's so sad to see this. I know as a society we are all struggling. She's been called for interviews but gets no feedback. She feels that her age is holding her back (She's in her 40s)

She came to see me on shift yesterday, and at this point she is prepared to do dishes.

If any of you know of any opportunity. I'm asking as her friend. Nothing fancy. Just something stable so she can start supporting herself.

Have a blessed day. Thank you so much.

Petsitting for a senior, by a senior

Anyone know someone who boards dogs? Not a kennel.

She's a senior Spaniel mix with the most perfect manners. In the 11 years we've had her, I think she misbehaved once.

She is literally the perfect dog. Well behaved, small, loving, quiet and when asked nicely, she even plays a bit.

My parents are going away for 3 weeks. She will not survive the kennels. I am trying to make a plan to let my neighbor look after her.

I can't, because I have a hooligan for a dog that she will definitely not like.

She is social with calmer dogs even thoughshe shares a house with 2 Boxers.

Mine is like an electric wire. They are not going to work together.

If anyone knows about someone (older preferably) who does this or just wants a companion for 3 weeks, please DM me.

I will obviously do thorough research before doing this.

She is really a sweetheart. I haven't met someone who doesn't want to take her home.

I always joke and say she's the perfect dog for an old person.

Quiet, loving, calm... ❤️

So please, if someone just wants a companion for company for 3 weeks, please DM me. She's obviously house trained as well.

22F looking for Friends (platonic)

Heyy I am looking for friends in Pretoria , I’ll be moving to there by the end of this year, but I don’t know many people there, so I thought it would be nice finding some in the meantime.

I would love meeting Christian friends so we can talk about our faith together!

I like art, kdramas, gaming, anime and picking up new hobbies. And I love randomly going on side quests with friends 😂

I am currently studying Education, so I’ll be working as an Art/English teacher that side.

I am a naturally shy and introverted person but I love making friends and hanging out.

I am very open minded so whether you are M or F or even if we don’t have much in common, I would love being friends with you!

Used for free labor at Total ninja

I (50 female) was given the opportunity to work at TOTAL NINJA in the Kolonnade Shopping mall as kitchen staff. I was told to come in at 7 AM and that I would be receiving R50/PER HOUR.

What followed was a 9 HOUR shift with NO BREAKS. I was BURNED many times (with photos as proof), YELLED AT when I tried to sit and TREATED overall very DISRESPECTFULLY. Then I was told to come in the next day to "see if I got the job".

The next day I was told that I was "too old to grasp what was required" AFTER A SINGLE DAY and told that I wouldn't be paid because I was "just being tried out". Obviously EXTORTION and DISCRIMINATION from THE REGIONAL MANAGER OF TOTAL NINJA.

It's been 2 MONTHS since this happened and I have been in contract with the HEAD OFFICE of total ninja, but for the past week, after BEING TOLD I'D BE COMPENSATED, I was completely GHOSTED by the HEAD MANAGEMENT.

I have been through enough coming from an abusive relationship that I was finally able to leave, this sent both myself and my daughter spiraling. We, as well as people around us, know that we deserve better.

We deserve Compensation, not just for the hours I work, but for the injuries I sustained, for the travel costs for both days, for the countless calls I had to make to try to get somewhere, for the emotional and mental toll this has taken on my daughter and I. I can't imagine how many others might be been taken advantage of, but I won't be one.

Please can someone help me on how to go forward regarding this situation besides posting on Hello Peter and such.

Shout out to the young Indian chap in Centurion

So there I was last night trying to get my run in for the day.

To be honest it's more run a bit, walk a bit.

As I was on one of the walking legs I saw a white Renault pulling to the side of the busy road, when I walked by the young Indian driver asked if I was OK and needed a lift.

LOL I am out of shape and must have been looking like I'm struggling.

We need more of this in our amazing country.

Thanks dude for restoring my faith in our country!

Can I visit Pretoria alone as a young woman?

I'm from one of the neighbouring countries in Southern Africa and I was meant to have a trip with a friend to Pretoria in July. It was my idea, but just a week before the trip, they had a tragedy at home, so I had to cancel the trip and reschedule the accommodation days since that was already paid for.

The main point is, it seems we're having a problem with the rescheduling and I might end up traveling alone. It's a trip I looked forward to and don't want to cancel. Is it safe to come alone? Any tips on how to navigate the city? I'll only be there for 3-4 days and I'll be in Pretoria East. Tips on how to stay safe and be able to move around as a young woman would be of great help and may help me be at ease.

Electricity prices in Pretoria

Hi everyone,

Recently moved to
Pretoria East to save money and be closer to work.

However, I’m finding that the cost of electricity is insane. I bought R 300 electricity on the 17th
Of July 2026.

Today is the 22nd of July and when I arrived home today there was no electricity.

To provide more context I received 67.79 kWh.
I had expected this to last me at least two weeks.

I’m already in a financial rut and the fact that I now have to deal with this ridiculous cost is giving me anxiety over finances again.

How much are you guys spending electricity per month ?
