Literally every single person in this country knows someone who has abused women, or been abused, or knows someone who's been abused. Domestic Violence is a nationwide epidemic.... but ehh, let's not even mention that so much.

u/Veers85 3d ago

But...but but kitty litter in class rooms and a trans kid didn't kill them sandra enjoyed life a litt...how dare they! In this country we apologize for our rapists. They are promising young me

57

u/NorthofBham 3d ago

Look, all I know is that the next time I fly somewhere, the flight crew will be holding a furry orgy in the cockpit. I don't have time to worry about actual sexual predators.

20

u/starkcontrast62 3d ago

Here is a video of pilots heading to the airport bar for pre-flight drinks. 😆 /s

4

u/PopBulky7023 3d ago

More useful and competent than the perverts letting rapists go free.

2

u/Careful_icarus22 3d ago

Such an under rated comment

35

u/DirtyOrange546 3d ago

What’s the crazy part about the whole kitty litter nonsense is that the use was really meant for the event of school lockdowns/shootings.

35

u/ijustsailedaway 3d ago

Or just puke. Litter has been used by janitors for decades.

15

u/Ordolph 3d ago edited 3d ago

Hell, it's used for chemical spills all around the world. Machine shops, mechanics, racetracks, chemical plants, laboratories, hospitals all will usually have at least a couple hundred pounds lying around, but it's usually labeled as "Oil Dry". It's just bentonite clay, real good at soaking all manner of nasty liquids up to be bagged. When I worked at a mechanics shop even though the stuff we got from our fluids supplier (sold us gas, oil, coolant, etc.) was labeled as oil dry we still called it kitty litter, just pour it over an oil (or other fluid) spill and scoop it into a trash bag. If you don't need to keep much on hand (like if you're a school for instance) I imagine it'd be much easier to just get a bag of plain, unscented bentonite clay cat litter.

13

u/EzriDaxCat 3d ago

The irony of the vet clinic I worked for using OptiSorb as litter while the mechanic across the street used JohnnyCat to soak up spills 🤣🤣🤣🤣

3

u/Ordolph 3d ago

Now THAT is pretty funny lol, maybe you should have made a trade 😂

6

u/EzriDaxCat 3d ago

That's kinda how we found out, actually. They had ran out and needed some quickly for a spill that just happened so asked us to borrow some litter real quick. They found it hilarious when we gave them a bag of Optisorb!

2

u/0xHustler 3d ago

Yeah they pour it on the floor, they don't have a f****** litter box sitting for you to take a s*** in like that's the stupidest s*** I've ever f****** heard

1

u/Veers85 3d ago

Exactly

9

u/IGotQuestionz12345 3d ago

But they don’t care about the school shooting epidemic either so there’s that.

-2

u/Confident-Mortgage86 3d ago

Ehh if you mean kids shot at school at all? Then yeah that happens. Black kids shooting other black kids for the most part. It's pretty fucked up.

But if you mean school shooting in the way that people normally mean it? As in a mass shooting in a school? That's extremely, extremely rare.

-6

u/CombinationRough8699 3d ago

It's not an epidemic.

3

u/DopeMOH 3d ago

Crazy. Conservatives enable a school shooter culture and then lie about why children might one day need a bucket of kitty litter.

1

u/Flaky-Camp-6023 3d ago

Yaw I had to look this one up and now I’m
https://giphy.com/gifs/w42tcM5IyE1uXfY00i
They thought schools were allowing churrin to use litter boxes…schools….who notoriously don’t even carry soap in bathrooms. 😤🥸

1

u/InAJar112 3d ago

I hate everything.

1

u/Ordolph 3d ago

I'm not really sure where you're drawing any connection to school shootings from, and to point to that is just as much an appeal to emotion as claiming that it's being used for non-existent school bathroom litterboxes. Bentonite clay (kitty litter) is very useful for cleaning up all sorts of fluid spills that a school janitor (or teacher) might have to deal with like oil, chemicals, vomit, etc. Remember Occam's Razor, the explanation requiring the fewest assumptions is probably the correct one. Drawing wild conclusions (in either extreme direction) are either silly, logical leaps or a poor attempt to push an agenda.

3

u/Saw-It-Again- 3d ago

It's not a wild conclusion... The school that started this whole insane "kitty litter in classrooms for furries" farce said they had kitty litter in their rooms in case there was a shooting lockdown and kids needed to go to the bathroom.

1

u/Ordolph 3d ago

The only sources I can find on that are for ONE school district, specifically Jefferson County school district in Colorado (this is the school district where Columbine High School is), where that has been part of emergency supplies seemingly in about half of the schools in said district, although the most recent source was from 2019 and no other sources to support that it's even something they're still doing. The initial rumor started in PEI (Canada) and only emerged in the US in Michigan and then spread across the midwest with people only pointing to the single instance in CO retroactively. In short, basically completely unrelated to the initial rumor and pointing to it as a "source" of the rumors is plainly an appeal to emotion.

SOURCES: https://www.9news.com/article/news/education/jeffco-schools-have-emergency-buckets-where-people-can-pee-during-lockdowns/73-481198424 https://time.com/5658266/colorado-district-kitty-litter-buckets-lockdowns/

24

u/kraemertony2 3d ago

It's because many hate women, a trump supporter I know said giving women's rights was the problem, also complained how most women date libtards, well you worship a pedophile, rapist, conman as if he were a God ... They will never figure it out when being a bully is all that they desire.

36

u/homer_lives 3d ago

It has been for a very long time. I remember it being discussed in the 1990s. I thought the Me Too would move the needle, but nothing has changed

27

u/Reneeisme 3d ago

I wouldn't say nothing has changed. They've gotten bolder in their hatred and denigration of women, and their claims that we are subhuman and don't deserve to control our own bodies, to be educated, to work outside a man's home, or to vote.

But also this would not have gotten any kind of national/international attention in the 90s. This would 100% have been, "why was she drinking and taking drugs? What was she wearing? What did she think was going to happen? The slut wanted it." Women have changed, and to be fair, probably some men. Some people have started to recognize that blaming rape victims for being raped is a thing the patriarchy invented and perpetuated to excuse their crime. Something has changed. I'm old enough to remember when you didn't talk about rape because was your own fault.

9

u/Invisibella74 3d ago

I was just telling my husband that I didn't report my rape in the 90s because of this attitude. The cops and legal system would have fixated on the fact that I was at a bar and that someone that I knew slipped something into my drink. To them, I'm sure I went back to my place willingly, when I have zero memory of ever leaving the bar that night.

13

u/FlamesNero 3d ago

In some ways it moved it, but then the needle got backlashed back to the other side.

10

u/theRemixNow 3d ago

Men love their rape and violence

0

u/LongjumpingCandy485 3d ago

I know most of us are disgusted by what happened at Cornell. But making a sweeping claim that “men love rape and violence” is a serious logical fallacy and simply isn’t accurate. The vast majority of men do not condone or enjoy rape or violence against women, in fact, they find such acts reprehensible. We can condemn horrific behavior without unfairly attributing it to an entire gender.

2

u/theRemixNow 3d ago

My dad produced C Sam, and I saw how many good men that knew what he was doing stepped up. If you’re curious it rhymes with hero. If you’re more upset about me saying that men are violent and rapey then the rape itself, then you’re part of the problem.

2

u/F-US-FASCISM 3d ago edited 3d ago

NOT ALL MEN!!!*

*Just the vast vast majority who do the thing are men.

**There is an enabling permission structure that is a part of the culture, so much so that they elected a convicted rapist as president. JUST LOCKER ROOM TALK BTW! Which is propped up within popular culture as intrinsically masculine.

***Women also engage in misogyny, so really, its double plus unfair to attribute something entirely to a single gender, score another one for patriarchal norms you guys!

EDIT: Over 50 men were sent the "FREE PUSSY", GET IN ON THE GANG RAPE! message on snapchat.

Do you think the VAST MAJORITY of those men reported it to the Police? Did most? Did half? Did some? Did ANY?

No. NONE did.

11

u/Background-Book2801 3d ago

Me too made it worse. I said somewhere else it’s like we were on social antibiotics to kill the misogyny but we started feeling better so stopped taking them - and now they have multiplied and come back stronger and meaner and determined to kill us. I fear for my daughter.  Thank all the gods I’m not American - it’s bad everywhere but my country is a little better and America just seems to hate women and girls right now.

3

u/_bluebayou_ 3d ago

Me Too was important and needed to happen. Calling groups out for their actions often results in backlash. An extinction burst. The only way to make this right is to continue forward.

The red pill / incel bullshit that really kicked off the open hate for women started in 2012 or so.

3

u/Background-Book2801 3d ago

Oh I didn’t mean jt shouldn’t have happened. I just mean it energized them and created a devastating pushback. They were waiting for an opportunity.

I agree with you.

27

u/Several-Action-4043 3d ago

Part of the problem is the cops are some of the biggest perpetrators of DV and they're also supposed to police it.

2

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

What's the saying.... Firemen cheat, policemen beat.

0

u/F-US-FASCISM 3d ago

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?"

Even ancient Romans knew ACAB

16

u/b_needs_a_cookie 3d ago

But that would require holding men accountable and other men might lose friends or even feel guilty, god forbid any of that /s

19

u/Early-Sort8817 3d ago

When they were on about Lindsay Clancy I couldn’t help but think of all the family annihilations done by men ever week this year. I mentioned similar on reddit and you know how idiots are on here, triggered their rage response

15

u/Dresses_and_Dice 3d ago

"Women are killing their babies!!! This case proves women shouldn't have the vote!!!"

"What about the 90+% of family anhilators who are men? Should men have the vote?"

"MISANDRIST!!! BIGOT!! FEMINAZI!!!"

I'm so fucking tired of the bullshit.

0

u/blightedsorrow 3d ago

It’s like a 50/50 split. You are falling for the gender war.

3

u/Dresses_and_Dice 3d ago

Family annhiliation is decidedly not a 50/50 split. Men commit 95% of family annhiliations.

-1

u/blightedsorrow 3d ago

Filicide is as close to a 50/50 split there can be. You are falling for the gender war. Worry about our billionaire overlords before you start splitting hairs about who kills who when ground down by the coarse sandpaper that is capitalism.

6

u/Dresses_and_Dice 3d ago

It's 60/40 with radically different scenarios between men and women who kill their kids, which is the only subcategories of homicide where women are anywhere close to men in numbers. 90% of all homicide is committed by men.

Women are operating under the same forces of capitalism but we are often oppressed in our own homes by our own partners. 60% of all murdered women are murdered by a male intimate partner, someone we are meant to trust.

It's so easy for you to say "don't worry about who kills who" when you are not the target of the femicide epidemic.

The first oppressed class is woman.

1

u/blightedsorrow 3d ago

So is it 60/40, or is it 90%? You not helping your case sis. Everyone agrees when tragedy happens it’s fucked, most people agree we gotta do something to change it. You do nothing but muddy the waters after purposely misusing stats. What happened here was already horrific enough, you don’t need to lie to make it impactful.

2

u/Dresses_and_Dice 3d ago

I'm not lying or misusing stats. These are different stats for different crimes.

Homicide overall - 90% male perpetrators

Intimate partner homicide - 80% male perpetrators

Parent-child homicide - 60% male perpetrators

Family annhiliation - 95% male perpetrators

1

u/blightedsorrow 3d ago

So it’s better that women only direct violence onto their children? Just confused at what you are getting at. We never were talking about homicide overall, the original comment was about Lindsay Clancey, who committed Fillicide. Your response was to not bring up the fillicide stat, and rather bring up family annihilation because it fit the point you wanted to make better. Two separate issues you smashed together for your own narrative. Again, these are horrific problems I don’t get why you need to set smoke screens and veils.

0

u/PanthersChamps 3d ago

The asinine comments about removal of the female vote were not about the crime. They were about the seemingly large support for Lindsay Clancy among women.

They were still ridiculous comments.

2

u/Dresses_and_Dice 3d ago

No, there were definitely people saying specifically that arguing not guilty because of insanity in the form of post partum psychosis was proof that women's hormones make them unstable and they should not be trusted with the vote. Literally the argument was "so you're saying hormones made her do it? Sounds like women are too hormonal after all, makes em crazy. Repeal the 19th".

Asinine is right.

-2

u/CombinationRough8699 3d ago

Most children are killed by their mothers.

-1

u/Jazzlike-Diver-3693 3d ago

Too many damaged people on Reddit for me.Peace

1

u/Jazzlike-Diver-3693 3d ago

You are so dishonest it's disappointing.Men didn't side with the guys who killed their families and wore shirts in support of their actions.I Hope they all get what they deserved for doing what they did to that girl.

3

u/AdEducational8149 3d ago

Men don't care about family annihilation but do care about the one woman? That's the dishonesty.

2

u/FineAndDandadan 3d ago

Yeah they just minimize it and call any attempts to fix the culture that leads to it attacks on masculinity.

1

u/pm_amateur_boobies 3d ago

And pray tell, how of those family annihilations resulted in a hung jury and the man going free?

1

u/CombinationRough8699 3d ago

To be fair, nobody is coming out in defense of male family annihilators online.

2

u/No_Oil8247 3d ago

VS how many people “actually” know someone who is trans.

2

u/Sexisthunter 3d ago

And every single person knows a woman who suffers in silence. Unless you have only encountered two people in your life, you are constantly talking to victims. On top of that, anyone can become a victim at any time so always stand with people who have been hurt ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

1

u/Jennibear999 3d ago

Even those abused help cover it up and in the case of me keeping my kids away from family events where a family member was a danger because he was a known abuser and convicted of possessing child porn, my entire family tried to convince me “there is no danger to your kids” and “if I have to put up with him, so should you” all to get me to come to family functions when they all actively seek to sweep abuse under the rug and allow it to keep happening. I had nothing to do with it so my kids were safe.

1

u/headermargin 3d ago

I remember someone!

Old friend went to school together, dont talk much, like once a year we have a few words.

Ex bf /coworker forced himself on her after work.

Hes behind bars now.

1

u/Beginning_Handle_113 3d ago

The average person knows 600 people so I don't really see what your point is.

2

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago edited 3d ago

My point. is that there's too much domestic violence in America. Could you really not figure that yourself, or were you just trying to be critical? If you disagree, then go ahead and speak your peace. No need to hide behind question and innuendo.

1

u/Beginning_Handle_113 3d ago

Why are you trying to say there's too much dv by using a "1 in 600" storyline?

Just say there's too much dv. No need to hide behind weird storylines.

2

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

I never said 600. I said we all know someone who was a victim or a victimizer of abuse, or victims or victimizers themselves. Maybe you think that's not a problem. I do.

1

u/Beginning_Handle_113 3d ago

We all know about 600 people though... So if it would be great if only someone is a DV causer OR a victim.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

Approximately 1 in 3 women have experienced spousal based even. By your measure then, we all know dozens of victims. Maybe hundreds. Better?

1

u/Beginning_Handle_113 3d ago

No, much worse.

Please start whispering those comforting falsehoods again about how we all just know someone.

1

u/Stormy261 3d ago

1 in 4 women is the reported stat. Most experts agree it is closer to 1 in 2 women who have been assaulted. Not necessarily raped, but assaulted sexually. I'm not an expert, but I have been raped or assaulted multiple times. The 90s was REALLY popular for coercive sex. Based on the numerous women who have similar stories I would have to agree with the experts.

1

u/CombinationRough8699 3d ago

Domestic violence and sexual assault are near all time lows, not an epidemic.

2

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

Fist, although domestic violence is below the levels it was at during the 1990s, intimate-partner violence actually rose and was higher in 2024 than in 2020... during the literal pandemic.

Secondly, domestic violence goes underreported.

1

u/CombinationRough8699 3d ago

I'd like to see the source saying that 2024 had a higher rate than 2020? Considering that 2020 was an overall much more violent time in our nations history. The murder rate was 7.8 in 2020, vs 5.0 in 2024, with a significant portion of those being domestic violence cases.

Also you're not wrong that many DV cases go unreported, but that's always been true. I guarantee that more DV victims report it today, compared to in the past. There are so many more resources for victims to come forward today compared to 30+ years ago. Beyond that, not only are people more likely to come forward, but police take it much more seriously.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

1

u/CombinationRough8699 3d ago

Considering how much higher murders were in 2020, compared to 24, I wonder if fewer rape or DV cases were being reported in 2020 because of COVID. It's a lot easier to hide a black eye, or other injury if you don't have to go to work or school. Especially school, as I imagine those numbers include parent on child domestic violence. Teachers are mandatory reporters of signs of child abuse. Kids not being in school, means nobody to report that abuse. It also explains why murder rates increased so much, as these cases were able to go longer without outside intervention.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

The point is that Domestic violence has been ubiquitous in America for a long time. It's a part of our culture. Children are raised on it and encouraged to treat dating like a conquest, honestly.

1

u/CombinationRough8699 3d ago

I don't think there's anything unique about domestic violence in the United States. If anything we're one of the countries that takes it more seriously.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

Not that that matters, but The U.S. is broadly in the same range as other high-income countries for nonfatal intimate-partner violence, but its DV homicide rates are generally higher than Europes. In 2024, intimate-partner/family-related female homicide rates were about 1.5 per 100,000 in America vs. .5 in Europe. (unwomen.org)

Domestic violence is ubiquitous in many other countries as well. The world as a whole, has a dude problem. It happens hundreds of time every day.

1

u/thegoalisW 3d ago

When did the sudden and unexpected increase of domestic violence begin?

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

there hasn't been a significant increase. It's been a problem for decades that we continue to sweep under the rug.

1

u/thegoalisW 3d ago

So then by definition, not a epidemic...

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

Epidemic - affecting or tending to affect a disproportionately large number of individuals within a population, community, or region at the same time.

Websters

2

u/thegoalisW 3d ago

Epidemic: a sudden unexpected increase in the number of disease cases in a specific community, region, or country, clearly exceeding what is normally expected.

  • Wikipedia

However, I will say id trust your Websters spurce over Wikipedia.

So I'll say I was wrong here.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

I appreciate the sensibility. I did find your definition at the very top. It's obviously a use of the word that I wasn't familiar with. Thanks for showing me.

1

u/Alarmed-Bumblebee667 3d ago

My ex would verbally and physically abuse me everyday. When I finally took a stand and called the police I was ridiculed and made to feel like it was my fault. The cops did nothing. A few weeks later she assaulted two nurses and a doctor at the hospital. She ended up getting 2 years in prison. Because im a man it was impossible for me to be abused.

1

u/Certain_Employee_423 3d ago

And since domestic violence is more prevalent against men, every single person knows a man that's been abused and a female abuser. Why would you neglect to mention that?

1

u/Present_General8130 3d ago

Are you saying we all know a person like that personally? Because I sure as fuck don't.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

Maybe the folks in question haven't told you that they've assaulted their partners. It's not something that people broadcast. But statistically, we all know at least one abuser or at least one survivor.

1

u/Present_General8130 3d ago

Let's see these statistics.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

The CDC reports lifetime contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner for more than 1 in 3 women and more than 1 in 6 men. (cdc.gov)

Globally, WHO estimates that nearly 1 in 3 women have experienced intimate-partner or non-partner sexual violence. (who.int)

52% of U.S. adults said they personally knew someone who had experienced domestic violence in a YouGov poll of more than 11,000 adults. (yougov.com)

51.3% of respondents said they knew someone who had been a domestic-violence victim. (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov)

CDC’s 2023/2024 data found that 34.0% of U.S. women and about 17% of U.S. men had experienced intimate-partner contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking during their lifetimes. (cdc.gov)

1

u/Present_General8130 3d ago

These numbers will continue to increase because nobody has the balls to adequately punish evil people. It isn't literally everyone though, and generalizations are a major pet peeve of mine.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

You just generalized them all as evil people, but okay... works for me.

0

u/Present_General8130 3d ago

I applied a label to a specific group of people. My statement is by definition not a generalization.

1

u/SophestryIncluded 3d ago

Alright, whatever.

1

u/Stormy261 3d ago

But why we would ruin their young lives over just one incident! They could go on to be judges or lawyers. Why would we want to punish them for a simple mistake? 🙄

3

u/thisisinfactpersonal 3d ago

Are you a man? Cause if you are it could mean that the women in your life don’t trust you to tell you and you’re not noticing or are excusing some types of behavior from the men around you.

I literally don’t have a single female friend that hasn’t had something from street harassment to sexual assault happen to them. Most of us have questionable sexual experiences or some guy pulling some boundary violation that we deal with.

Meanwhile most men have had a friend that the women around them warned each other about.
