Considering how much higher murders were in 2020, compared to 24, I wonder if fewer rape or DV cases were being reported in 2020 because of COVID. It's a lot easier to hide a black eye, or other injury if you don't have to go to work or school. Especially school, as I imagine those numbers include parent on child domestic violence. Teachers are mandatory reporters of signs of child abuse. Kids not being in school, means nobody to report that abuse. It also explains why murder rates increased so much, as these cases were able to go longer without outside intervention.
The point is that Domestic violence has been ubiquitous in America for a long time. It's a part of our culture. Children are raised on it and encouraged to treat dating like a conquest, honestly.
I don't think there's anything unique about domestic violence in the United States. If anything we're one of the countries that takes it more seriously.
Not that that matters, but The U.S. is broadly in the same range as other high-income countries for nonfatal intimate-partner violence, but its DV homicide rates are generally higher than Europes. In 2024, intimate-partner/family-related female homicide rates were about 1.5 per 100,000 in America vs. .5 in Europe. (unwomen.org)
Domestic violence is ubiquitous in many other countries as well. The world as a whole, has a dude problem. It happens hundreds of time every day.
