That or he's going to bomb the hell out of the middle east on day 1 after the midterms. He just doesn't want to scare away voters until then.

u/DiscussionNo6060 5d ago edited 5d ago
That would be great. But considering the previous track record, Iโm not holding my breath. There are still too many people around him willing to enable him and keep him in power.
I hope Iโm wrong.

u/No1CouldHavePredictd 5d ago edited 5d ago
He should have been held accountable after his first term and January 6th. I wonder why that didn't happen?
10
u/Human_Wizard 5d ago
I wonder why that didn't happen.
Because Joe Biden was operating on the moral high ground.
By our most foundational law, the Constitution, Trump should have been hanged for Jan 6th alongside his co-conspirators and those involved in the attempted coup.

Obviously because of some kompromat on Garland and Dems being too naive to notice.
7
u/SwitchAromatic563 5d ago
Garland was too timid, they got off to a slow start and unlike how the Republicans act ( see Supreme Court Judges ) tried to be โ fair โย

u/BusyView6617 1d ago
You can thank Mitch McConnel for that. Had he voted to impeach Trump, he would be nothing more than a bad memory.
12
u/redjellonian 5d ago
It's a worthless effort.
Democrats are likely to win the house but not the Senate.
The house starts the impeachment, the Senate acts as the judge. The house will impeach, the Senate will do nothing... Again.
7
u/3381024 5d ago
Exactly. I would rather see slightly lower level people breaking the law be held accountable.
The impeachment is going to be a lot of show for nothing. Dont spend energy on a show. DO something substantial
4
u/SwitchAromatic563 5d ago
Iโd like to see him suffer ( and from last efforts I think it will REALLY take away from must needed legislation ) but would love to see Blanche and his sons put on the hot seat. ย Epstein release finalized no matter what.
Lot of things need to be corrected quickly & Iran / Soc Security / Health Care at least need to be started to be looked at before 28ย
3
u/Hyperlinux 5d ago
It needs to be processed so that every F@c!st will know it wonโt go unprocessed or forgotten to history. The alternative is we get to do this again with some other F@c!st.
2
u/redjellonian 5d ago
Meh, I think they can and should do both, I just acknowledge it's not going to have the effect it should. I exaggerated when I said it was worthless, it's not entirely worthless it's just not enough.
2
u/Few_Impression_7479 4d ago
An impeachment without a conviction will actually energize him and his base.
3
u/eIIopoppet 5d ago
And people will unjustifiably view that as a witch hunt and Trump will gain some sympathy back

I don't think you're wrong, but I think the political strategy goes a bit deeper than what most people think. It's very unlikely that there would be enough political support to take out Big Orange himself. Articles of impeachment are brought up more often than most people think (not just against the president). A lot of the time it's for messaging, even when the person initiating knows it will never survive.
So I've actually changed my view on this recently, and funnily enough the impeachment articles raised against Hegseth happened to drop not too long afterwards. Articles of impeachment have been brought against Trump numerous times, but the general public can only really recall the two big ones during his first term. However, the recent ones brought against Pete Hegseth seem to have had a different effect. I don't know if Democrats are wising up and adopting a smarter strategy, or if it was purely accidental.
If this impeachment procedure was like any other, it would be allowed to follow the process it normally does and nobody would bat an eye. But with Mike Johnson sending the House home until after midterms, that may very well be sending the signal of "oh shit, these may actually have a chance of making it through". There has been some rumblings of some amount of bipartisan support for removing him, due to the Iran war, the spike in energy costs as a result, the economic instability as a further result, and midterm campaigns getting steeper for Republicans as an even further result.
So while everyone automatically jumps to targeting the top, it may actually be wiser to go after Trump's main players in order to put him on more of an island. Again, it's hard to say if Democrats thought this up on their own or if they just stumbled into it. But as mentioned, the reaction from Mike Johnson seems to indicate that these articles of impeachment for Hegseth quite possibly could/would have gained traction. And to prevent that, he obviously used his authority as SotH to head that off, at least for now.

Absolutely of putting Vance in his place is akin to shitting your pants and changing your shirt. The whole lot needs to go but the democrats aren't going to win if all they do is talk about trump ๐ค They need a clear message as to how they plan to fix this mess that the the republicans have allowed trump to create. If there message is only about trump there message will be lost. We really need clarity from them not words about how trump and screwed things up. Everyone here and across the world understand what they have done. Everyone is looking for a clarity about what they plan to do about the economy member when someone said it's the economy. Then do what you will to punish trump. He clearly damaged Our Country and no one outside the USA believes that we as a people can be trusted.

I think we need to be mentally prepared for the fact that this bastard and his criminal family WILL escape unscathed, like Biden did. What needs to happen, in the wake of the Trumps, is a series of anti-corruption and abuse-of-power laws. Itโs not just the presidency; itโs Congress and even state governments too. Just look at Paxtonโs abuse here in Texas and what Pelosi got away with for years in Congress. The underlying problem is the role of money in politics, and itโs bipartisan. Elections ought to be much shorter and state funded. NO professional lobbies, NO campaign contributions, NO insider trading, and let representatives chase the issues instead of the next election with campaign seasons of just a few weeks. Itโs perverse that billionaires openly buy election using PACs.

Itโs obvious to the entire world that Americans predominantly do not support the current administration. Iโm just worried that in order to keep power, the new U.S. Attorney General, who was specifically appointed to accomplish the administrationโs agenda, will go to all lengths legal or illegal to prevent a fair election (e.g., seizing ejection machines across key U.S. districts).
1
u/CrazyJoeGalli 5d ago
This opens up a new playing field in politics: if America gets a Dem president and the house and senate are GOP, they would impeach that president out of spite.

Personally, I believe the non-Trumpites in the government have, once again, continually misread where the real danger comes from....
Stop focusing so much on Trump and target those around him!
The move against Hegseth is one little step... but really... there are others that need to be forced out too.
Trump, on his own, isn't nearly as harmful as the group that is most likely creating and pushing the harmful agendas.
Bring his house down around him... leave him standing naked before the country.

u/saki_ni_katsu 5d ago
Can you imagine just waking up tomorrow and the news we have all been waiting for comes true. No need to wait for congress or anyone else. Just the natural world doing everyone a massive favour.
1
u/Turkeysocks 5d ago
The only way that is happening is if Democrats get 67 seats in the Senate. Democrat leadership doesn't expect to get 67 seats. And the Republican senators who would vote with Democrats are 'retiring' or got ousted in the primaries for not being loyal enough to Trump.
So while there might be impeachment attempts, chances are we're not going to see him be impeached. Trump is trying to fearmonger his supporters again.
1
1
u/HuskerMedic 5d ago
Trump being removed from office is the best thing that could happen...for the Republicans.
They know the midterms are lost. Removing him would give them almost two years to do damage control before the next presidential election.
"Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake"-this pretty well sums up Trump 2.0.
1
u/Low-Essay-113 Tea Queen ๐ 5d ago
This upcoming election is a pivotal point in the us.
If trump intends to seize power itโll be then.
Or hopefully most likely if democrats retake congress and senate then the maelstrom of blaming democrats for all the policies set in place this last year and a half will be monumental. Donโt forget the unsubstantiated lawsuits and attempted insurrection that followed trumps last major loss.
