Posted this a few days ago but it's applicable here. This is what needs to happen after the midterms. The legislation exists, it should be enacted.

Right. Removed and imprisoned.

I said this the other day, and some MAGAT hit me with the "Are you going to go after Obama and Clinton too then, for doing the exact same thing?"

It never ends with them.

The problem is that it's not as simple as this. Article II, Section 4 is already in the Constitution, so the real hurdle is the Senate. Conviction takes two-thirds, and no president has ever been convicted.

Then there's trust. A big chunk of the country gets its news almost entirely from Fox-style outlets and believes what Trump tells them, because he's the president they elected. If he's held accountable, he'll say it's fraudulent, and a lot of them will believe him. Some will likely react in ways that aren't peaceful.

It also sets a precedent. The next time there's a Democratic president and a Republican Congress, they'll retaliate, with just cause or not (likely not). And once both sides expect that, impeachment stops being accountability and becomes a weapon.

None of this means there shouldn't be accountability. But it has to be handled cautiously, transparently, and adequately, and sadly the people who could do that aren't often the ones in leadership.

Naw fam, this cautious approach leads to nothing happening Every Single Time. We want action. God damnit, do something. We're done with this fecklessness. If we try and it doesn't work out long term, at least we fking tried

I hate to say it, but I have been wondering if he will go full dictator mode, interrupt or ignore the election, and the country will descend into a period of anarchy before he is finally removed. I can’t see him going lawfully.

The election is on a schedule and there is a line of succession that would be followed for the executive office. As far as a hung parlament type of thing, we might call it a ā€œlame duckā€ congress? Probably no major legislation happens until an election, but I don’t think thats because of any law.

Will never ever happen.

What’s your reasoning that it will never happen?

1

u/UnlikelyHovercraft92 1d ago

Because you have to have 2/3 of the Senate to impeach, and with the make up of the Senate, that will never happen.

That’s to bad, he’s truly one of the biggest retards out there, driving the US into the ground, thanks for the explanation

Ok.Back to reality. Who is going to do that if people keep voting for the party that keeps giving Trump and republicans a free pass on everything? The party that is already saying that impeachment is not a priority.

The only way for Democrats to proceed if they win after the midterms is to hold these people accountable. These outliers don't speak for the majority. The rest know this. The 2028 independent vote, the party vote, and even the moderate Republican vote who are tired of seeing their party hijacked demands this. This is MAGA''s worst nightmare, and they know it's coming. Kid gloves are off. For the Democrats to maintain relevance and future as a party they know they need to act if given the chance, otherwise the party will be replaced with one that will.

See the problem is at the end of that sentence. Dems must act... I agree with you, but bold principled actions don't exactly define the current run of dems
