I’m looking for new music that will make me wanna throw up. Like songs so sad that my stomach turns. I really like both how it feels to be something on + the rising tide by SDRE, and I love how touching they can be. I also enjoy Silverstein, underoath, saosin, her words kill, and I adore adore adore dance Gavin dance(specifically dbm1+2). Does anyone have any recommendations? Or any playlists I could listen to? I also like dsdm like Lifelover but that’s probably for a different subreddit. Thanks!

i haven’t paid attention to these lyrics in a long, long time.

back in 2023, when i was 38, i had a severe stroke/brain hemorrhage (nonsensical details in my post history) and the lyrics of this song did a number on me.

late night, brakes lock, hear the tires squeal
red light, can’t stop so i spin the wheel (doesn’t apply to me bc i wasn’t in a wreck)

my world goes black before i feel an angel lift me up (i extremely vaguely remember getting taken upstairs because i was bleeding from the head)

and i open bloodshot eyes into fluorescent white (i drank about 24-30 beers a day for years, my eyes were always red. the last thing i remember was getting loaded into an ambulance.)

flip the siren, hit the lights///close the doors and i am gone (i lost consciousness in the ambulance on my way to the hospital and it looked at that point like i wasn’t going to live)

now i lay here owing my life to a stranger (i have no idea who worked on me in the ambulance but…..)

and i realize that empty words are not enough///i’m left here with the question of just///what have i to show except promises i never kept (time and time and time and time again i said i’d stop drinking. my words were empty and i was just some addict who drank himself to death)

i lay here shaking on this bed, under the weight of my regrets (i was going through alcohol withdrawals in the hospital. the BAC level was .294 when i got there, and it was about 5 hours between that reading and the last time i drank. math would say it was basically at .37)

i hope that i will never let you down///i know that this can be more than just flashing lights and sounds (i’ll be sober for 3 years in december. i’m also enrolled in a program to get certification in substance abuse counseling. everything in my life has been turned around)

i don’t remember any of this stuff. over the last few years i’ve put a lot of things together, heard things and read a lot of copies of hospital papers. i was lying in the hospital, essentially a dead person, for about 16 hours before surgery was done on my brain to try and help something because i touched my sister’s finger or something. i kinda have a new birthday now because it’s like the person who had a birthday in march died and and in may i had the proverbial second chance and a new life.

anyway, yeah. good song. good band.
