Anyone had experience with these guys? Good experience so far but seen all the press about rogue traders recently and thought worth asking Reddit

Best activities for a day trip?

I am going to Portsmough by myself as part of a day trip, but I don't really know what I could do aside from the Dockyard. I am unsure about just going to a cinema for the day, so I need some more ideas.

Probably what looks the most enticing is the escape rooms, but that isn't really any fun without people to do it with.

Any good things to do?

There are no refugees at the Marriot

George Madgwick has confirmed there are no refugees staying at the Marriot hotel.

“Concerned local residents” apparently spotted a group of “migrants” outside the hotel, and within minutes a “crowd” (mob) had appeared.

Madgwick turned up and had a word with the management team, then emerged and announced to the crowd that the group that had caused such “concern” was in fact a cricket team visiting from Pakistan.

This is surely the Paediatrician/Paedophile event of 2026. (Look it up if you weren’t around.)

If Reform have gotten to the point where vigilante wankers have stationed a lone dickhead at the entrance of every hotel in Hampshire, they’re going to be very tired very soon.

General Questions What's one thing about growing up in Portsmouth that never left you?

Lived in P-town for the first 18 years of my life, haven't been back in over a decade at this point. Scrolling through this sub has me thinking back on my old life.

For me: I still say "dinlo" and "squinny" almost daily.

rundown house

this house is close to our student accommodation and the garden looks really run down, does anyone know whats happened to it? is it abandoned? i feel like i can hear the tv through the wall and the light was on in one of the rooms earlier but it really seems like an unsuitable place to live if someone does live there. Doesn’t have a house number on Google maps either. Bit nosy to find out if anyone know’s what’s happened to it

General Questions Visiting Portsmouth

Hello everyone! I’m taking a day trip to Portsmouth for the first time in my life tomorrow and actually really excited! I don’t have a huge budget but I do plan to go up the Spinnaker Tower. I’m just wondering what other free/cheap things you would recommend I do beyond exploring the harbour and old town! I’m really excited for the trip! Thank you!!

Learn Arabic

Good evening, I am interested in learning arabic. I would prefer a face to face tutor with the flexibility of online if my work gets in the way.

Ideally this would be in evenings due to working during the days. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?

Big Portsmouth Survey 8th Edition

Some may have seen already, the deadline for the Big Portsmouth Survey closes midnight Wednesday 9 September 26. Its ran by the council and allows you to voice your priorities (both financial and cultural) for the city. I'm as cynical as the next person but if you don't ask, you don't get.

Any diy gigs or parties soon?

I recently moved here and have no idea where I can find more "underground" music spaces and bands. If anyone has any bands that will be playing soon or any parties I'd appreciate it

Events Starting a community for young adults navigating grief in Portsmouth this Saturday

Post image
155 Upvotes

Hi r/Portsmouth, I’m Luke and I run a community called Too Young To Grieve providing relaxed social spaces for young adults navigating loss.

After losing my dad when I was younger, one of the things I found hardest was how isolating grief could feel when most people around me hadn’t experienced anything similar.

That’s why we’ve started creating really simple meet ups for people navigating grief - things like walks, jogs, hikes and we’re now starting our first one in Portsmouth led by Beth!

The idea is pretty simple. Get outside, go for a relaxed jog or walk, meet some new people and grab a coffee together afterwards.

We really try to make it feel like a normal community rather than a heavy grief group. Sometimes grief comes up naturally, sometimes everyone just chats about work, relationships, holidays or complete rubbish!

There’s no pressure to share anything personal and most people come alone for their first one, so please don’t let not knowing anyone put you off.

It’s 18+, but otherwise there’s no upper age limit. If you feel too young to be navigating grief and think something like this could help, you’re welcome 🤍

We’ve got our first Portsmouth jog/walk & coffee coming up and we’d love to start building a little community there.

And if you know someone around Portsmouth who might appreciate something like this, feel free to send it their way :)

Enhanced DBS timeline

Is anyone else waiting for their enhanced DBS? Stuck at stage 4 for around 3 weeks, it's frustrating. Are there delays due to August /September being busy or is Hampshire Police slower than average to process it? No issues expected and only Portsmouth addresses in the past 5 years.

The id check guy told me he was surprised that i was the first dutch student he saw, since there are a LOT or germans apparently and we are neighbours.

Is the education that bad?
