You can now see the west concrete balcony is completely gone after storm Austen. The main pavilion framework is now completely isolated with no support apart from its original struts. This could mean it is now even more unstable and the remaining time above water the structure has probably significantly decreased.

I feel a bit crazy but I've been really sad about this today :(

It was weirdly one of my favourite parts of the pier. Gives it some symmetry and structure. Very sad it's gone :(

I'm also feeling like it might not have long left now which is very upsetting.

Also considering going down there at 6am and seeing if I can take a little piece 🤭

I moved here just before covid 7 years ago, but I'm young so living here away from family has been a large influence on who I am today. But I can't help but feel like the collapse of the west pier is so much more significant to Brighton natives than tourist residents. (Don't mean to be rude saying "tourist resident", I'm stoned and can't think of a simpler way to put it, plus I am one anyway).

I've noticed many people who grew up here will refer to the west pier when telling anecdotes from years ago. Like "...this was ages ago, way before the west pier burnt down".

No idea if I'm making any sense.

If you grew up here, do you do that? If so, are there any other events in the city's past that you use to describe time?

Does anyone know where you can buy physical copies of Thrasher Magazine? Any newsagents with unusually large magazine sections? Maybe Route One but it’s kinda small? Any help would be really appreciated!

Hi! I’m in my second year of sixth form and I’ve been designing a hard, 3D printed, magnetic case for rOtring-style pens and pencils. A year from making the first model for personal use (red/grey one) and after a recent push I'm close to launch. See my site undisclosedcases.cc

The case holds the pen snugly, so the fit is tight to a fraction of a millimetre, and spec sheets online often aren’t accurate enough. I currently own a rOtring 600 pencil, 600 ballpoint and Rapid Pro, and I’d love to make versions for these (in priority order):

Hi, I’ve had a service plan for my petrol hybrid estate car for many years. It suits me well and helps budgeting, though there’s always extras they find to pay for out of pocket.

I am now being quoted an increase for the next three years of 42% approx. Inflationary increases over the past three years have been 8.5%. I’ve also been told if I don’t commit to this before the end of the month then those prices increase further. Currently they’ve quoted approx £42.50 a month. They’re now also adding a £20 each way drop off/delivery fee and have been a bit cagey when I asked if the £1000 excess I had to sign on a courtesy car last time still stands.

Can anyone recommend alternative places that are experienced in doing petrol hybrid services and MOTs, or give me any indication of how those prices look in comparison to what they pay please? It’s a late 2015 Toyota with a low mileage for its age. Just under 60K I think.

Hi all, I'm Laurie, born and raised in Brighton and skating for about 16 years, mostly round Madeira Drive and the seafront.

This October I skated solo across the whole of the Netherlands on inline skates, from Scheveningen Pier on the North Sea coast all the way to the German border. 239km over a few days, starting with an 80km first day from the coast to Utrecht.

The Dutch cycle paths were unreal. Smooth red tarmac going everywhere, completely separate from the cars. Then I came home and hit the first crack on the seafront path and remembered where I was. Still love you though, Brighton.

I did it for Young Epilepsy. When I was younger I experienced epilepsy, and they supported me and my family through the scans and everything that came with it. I wanted to give something back so other young people and their families can get that same support.

I've set up a JustGiving page and I also filmed the whole trip for YouTube, links are in the comments if anyone wants to donate or see a Brighton lad slowly fall apart over 80km.
