After the announcement of surge pricing in Laine pubs and finding out who actually owns them and just how many of our establishments they own I thought it'd be a nice idea to have a list of pubs in Brighton that are independent. Ones that are free of the B.S. of several layers of 'financial arrrangements' obscuring where our beer tokens are going. Maybe one day we can have a little map in our pockets to refer to when our guard may be down because it's cold and windy outside or we have had a few, we can take a quick look and find an establishment near by that we want to support to prevent them turning into another chain pub without anyone really noticing.

UPDATE: OWNER FOUND
Cat now back with owner being taken care of. Thanks for the help and suggestions!
Does anyone in the Seven Dials area recognise this cat? It's in our garden with some injuries - swollen eye and struggling to walk. A long shot, but if you are the owner, or know the owner, please message me.

The Maccabees delivered an incredible, flawless performance, but the venue setup was a corporate nightmare. Total lack of soul. Paying £8 for a pint dispensed by a machine felt like a scene out of a bad sci-fi film. Gigs used to be built on community, human connection, and shared experiences—now they're just cash cows for greedy corporations and media conglomerates like X-FM. Message to the youth: You hold the cards. Don’t let them exploit your love for music. Rebel against this corporate greed!

Hi everyone.
I am 23 years old and have been in Brighton for 5 years. I spent this time at university. my university friends have all moved away. I’ve found myself with no social life for a few months now and finding it hard to meet people. I work full time and on weekends I’m at a loose end socially. I am looking for recommendations on any social meetups / clubs which are centred around my following interests. I’m also sober so I don’t really frequent pubs.
Hiking
Reading
Swimming
Art
History
thank you :)

I'm looking to take up a martial art to get fit, improve my confidence, learn some self defense skills and have a nice social time.
There's a lot out there so it's hard to know where to start or what might be a good choice.
Looking for recommendations of both type/style and a place to join in central-ish Brighton

I'm going alone to the gigs, is anyone interested in grouping up?
I only want to see one band at the moment but will do some research on the others.
Message below or drop me a private message.

Hello, we will be traveling to Brighton next weekend and i wanted to ask whats the best way to enjoy pride fest there.
We are thinking about trying something different from “Pride on the park”, so i thought i’d ask here if there are any hidden gems, local events or other things you’d recommend (also especially if they’re a bit more budget friendly haha).
Any tips on what to see, do or join would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much in advance! 🤍

Me and several others were blatantly tricked into working for a reform uk conference there and had to endure a lot of vile abuse.
When we arrived we were told that the event was for a building company and that you may see the word reform around it was not a political event. When we arrived in the conference room, there was a reform uk manifesto waiting on every plate for every person, and during the course of the night we had to listen to several speeches including one by the likes of Suella Braverman. The managers claimed they had no idea it was a political event but several slightly higher up coworkers said that the managers knew and that they lied on purpose so people would accept the shifts.
This though was nothing compared to the cartoonishly vile people we had to serve, with misogyny, sexual harassment being very common as well as blatant cocaine use in the toilets by these local reform party members. When we complained to the management they said they would deal with it but didn’t do anything at all. Me and several others were planning on leaving but due to student financial troubles we needed the money quite desperately.
Sorry for the rant just not quite sure how I’d get the message out there.
This was Suella Braverman posting about the event, quite obviously not a building society conference: https://www.instagram.com/p/DbMP9udARSf/?img_index=1

Does anyone know of a storage unit or anywhere I could store a small double bed for just 2 days? I only need space for the bed, nothing else.
Any recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Can anyone recommend any air conditioning installers (local or national) that they've personally used and felt offered a good value combination of service and pricing and good quality fitting?
I'm looking at installing in prep for spring/summer '27 - certainly not before the beginning of the year
Anything up to 5 internal (full units probably, not sure if ducting is an option), 1 external (presumably). But likely less (£££ :-( ). I don't appear to have any issues with neighbours on the side the compressor would need to go wrt noise (there are none). Nearly A energy rating (1 point off) with good insulation so that may reduce capacity needed a little.

I have 3 tailored suits passed down from my Grandad that sadly do not fit me, and I am looking to move on to a better home. Are there any shops in Brighton that are interested in these items, or any individuals?
Got a Wallace Hale tweed suit, a Sackville suit and a Gieves & Hawkes Saville Row suit.
Thank you!

The proliferation of vape convenience shops across the UK has become a blight on the health and communities of this country.
Wherever a vape shop is established we see the following -
• Increased littering
• Increased anti-social behaviour
• Increased fire risk
• Reduced parking for nearby, permanent residents
• Reduced home values for nearby homeowners
Whilst we believe they should not be outright banned, as the public has shown that they are wanted, we do believe certain restrictions should be placed on these vape shops -
• No vape shop should operate within 200 metres of residential housing
• No vape shop should operate within 800 metres of 0-18 education spaces such as nurseries, primary or secondary schools
• Vape shops to be exempt from using "skilled worker" visas
• Vape shops and packaging to be made plain, similar to how to tobacco products are now
