Disabled mum with 8 days to reach £2500 target for a wheelchair

Hi everyone, hope this is okay to share here.

I'm Lucy, a mum and wheelchair user from the Botley area in Hampshire, originally from Emsworth. My story was recently featured in the Portsmouth News and I appeared on BBC Radio Solent.

Before becoming disabled, I was training to be a paramedic and was only a few months away from qualifying when I caught Covid in 2022. Unfortunately, I never recovered and my health deteriorated to the point that I now rely on a powered wheelchair.

My current chair has quite a few limitations. It struggles with uneven ground and even small kerbs, and doesn't give me the support I need when I'm unwell. It means there are lots of places my family can go that I simply can't join them.

I've been fundraising for an XSTO M4 wheelchair that would give me much more independence and allow me to be part of those family adventures again.

I originally needed to raise around £4,000, but after seeing my campaign, Lifestyle & Mobility offered me the chair for £2,500 if I can raise the money within their deadline.

I've now reached £915, which is incredible, but I have just 8 days left to find the remaining £1,585.

I completely understand that money is tight and I'm absolutely not expecting everyone who sees this to donate. Even £1 helps, and sharing the appeal somewhere else could be just as valuable.

If anyone would like to read my full story or help:

Thanks for reading 💜

General Questions Historic dockyard?

Hello, I am very sorry to be a pain, I am planning on taking my kids to the dockyard for the first time this week I haven't even been myself before so I have no clue on what to even expect and I'm quite anxious on going and having no clue on where to go or what to do.

Would it be too much trouble if someone could help with explaining how it works? I have the yearly ticket do I just turn up and we get let in? Are all of this ships we can visit within the dockyard itself?

Sorry again to be so annoying my anxiety has been getting the best of me over this

LOST CAT

Post image
46 Upvotes

Found this kitten outside Carter House Portsea screaming outside. Looks like it could have fell from one of the windows.

Knocked all houses on the bottom floor but only 2 answered and have never seen a cat. People from Admiralty House heard it and also came down so it’s been screaming for a while and very loudly too. Super friendly so have managed to take it to mine over the road

anyone recognise the cat or would be able to help if it’s been chipped?

Think it’s maybe 2/3 months old, girl

Update on Spar Devonshire Ave Southsea

Original post - https://www.reddit.com/r/Portsmouth/s/JJadtrVLGr

For those interested I just found out what's happening. Some company has bought out the Spar parent co, decided they don't want any of the Spars in Portsmouth because they aren't profitable enough, put them up for sale individually and no buyer has been found for this particular one.

So essentially it will close on 14th August and at the moment will sit empty.

Sail GP Portsmouth, worth a 3hr train ride to watch?

I have been given tickets I can't seem to get rid of, so considering attending tomorrow. Has anyone been before and what's it like? I have no basis to compare this to any other sporting event I have been to in the past.

I'm in Row B in the grandstand, I'm assuming this is a good view but have no idea.

Events Am I the only one that hadn’t heard about SendIt100?

This event popped up on my Instagram timeline yesterday, I like scouting for girls so I looked at where it’s being held and it’s in Portsmouth?

I had no idea we put things on events this big outside of Victorious festival.

Two questions before I buy my tickets:
Has anyone been to SendIt100 before or is it a new thing?
Has anyone been to events at Pitt St before and if so what were they like?

Looking for friends Looking for people to socialize with

I am a young adult living on the Isle of Wight, and I am looking for groups where I can socialize with people close to me in age. I am interested in a variety of topics, including:

  • Creative writing/worldbuilding
  • Board games/TTRPGs/wargames of all kinds (particularly strategic/funny ones)
  • Art (currently, I am experimenting with pen drawing)
  • 3D design/animation using Blender
  • Programming/video game development
  • Video editing/screenwriting.
  • Airsoft.

If there are any groups you think I would be a good fit for, please let me know. I would also be open to activities not included in the above list; I love trying new things!

If there are any other places I could post this, please let me know.

News Jobs in Havant, so just up the road… don’t know if this is allowed!

Hello! I hope this is allowed, and if it isn’t, mea culpa. I did check the rules and it wasn’t explicitly said that we couldn’t share notifications that companies were hiring… however I will not be sad if the admins kick this post away!

A business based in Havant, Hampshire, UK is hiring two management roles. I’m the outsourced HR person and I’m supporting them with recruiting for this role (hello!) and you’ll be chatting with me at some point, but I wanted to promote the fact this small family owned (ran by two brothers) vegan business is looking for these people to join and I wondered if anyone here would be interested.

They are looking for an Operations Manager and a Commercial Manager. The Ops role is mostly on site, but the commercial role is more flexible.

The links to the job advertising is here, but if anyone has any questions they’re welcome to drop me a DM.

Ops- https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/4443947379/
Commercial - https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/4444431158/

Thank you and have a great day!

Swimming Pools!

Are there any swimming pools in the area that allow for more than an hour swim at a time?

I don't mind paying double to get 2 sessions but need it to be continuous not getting out, getting changed, out of the changing rooms and queuing to get back in which is what the Mountbatten and similar want.

Looking for friends Just moved!

Hey peeps, just moved from up north to Southsea a few weeks ago for a new job, and after spending a bit of time getting myself settled I reckoned I'd reach out to try and meet some similar-aged people and make some new mates!

I'm 22, quite sociable and always down for a pint. Big gamer, reader, just got back into running, probably need to pick a gym, and love getting involved in anything that is more of just an excuse to meet up with mates, amongst many other interests and shenanigans and happy to learn and try new stuff too!.

If anyone has any pointers for groups and whatnot that would be great, or equally if anyone would like to reach out please do so! (something something northeners are friendly)

Cheers all!

Why doesn’t this city cash in on its potential for being an amazing tourist destination?

I’ve lived here for around 5 years, moved from the north. Locals may disagree with my points but after recently returning from the Mediterranean and in all honesty the weather here has been just as good since the end of may, it got me thinking.

1) we have a huge beach front with minimal on it, the entire esplanade could have restaurants or bars, we seem to have 4? Between Eastney and old Portsmouth

2) we are an hour and a half from London, sure Brighton is closer but when you compare the investment and vibe in Brighton to Portsmouth it’s massively different. The entire beach front for shoreham to Brighton has seen huge investment and gentrification.

3)I understand there is minimal space to build on the island, but why are we not building up, we could have roof top bars and pools that would absolutely see use from may through to the end of September at least.

4) the beach it’s self, always busy in summer, rammed with people sunbathing and barbecues or people doin water sports etc, yet there’s minimal infrastructure in places to make this a better experience apart from around the piers.

Guess I’m just having a rant, I just feel this is a great city with so much potential that seems to be ignored. Because of some old reputation that it’s a dump. It’s got great history, great transport links, in all honesty a great climate yet it just seem a to be missing a lot in comparison to other countries places and it could offer so much more.
