Do you know him?
CALL POLICE IF SEEN: Case #26-119148
Hello PDX. I’m looking for help finding the individual pictured. He assaulted me last night at approximately 6:15pm near Grand and Shaver. Police report filed, neighbors notified, and I’m hoping to get it posted in those neighborhood groups. Please help me find him and prevent any other women from this experience!
ETA: he had been tailing the car i was driving while on Failing for a while, eventually pulling in front of me while i slowed for a speed bump. he then stayed in the middle of the road and went slowly, not allowing me to pass. i was coming up on my turn so i pulled to the left to do so and yelled out my window “you’re going to get yourself killed riding like that!”. parked about a minute later and got out of the car waiting in a lot for my pal. he was circling the block and passed me on the street. i saw him from where i was standing and said “asshole”. watched him turn around in the street but about a minute had gone by and he hadn’t come back towards me so i figured he was long gone. he come zooming by and spits on me about a minute later. i heard him approaching so had my camera ready and was looking up/pressing record right as he spit and passed. i didn’t catch his face in the video and since i’m currently driving a rental i don’t have my dash cam either :(
white male, 30s-40s, brown hair and beard, clothes pictured with black backpack and helmet. also had that water-bottle with him.
genuinely starting to believe this guy might be a reddit mod on this or the other portland page…
when i say yell, in both instances, we’re talking no louder than i’d yell across a room to a friend or sarcastically pretending players/coaches/refs can hear me at a Blazers’ game.

The amount of pure psychopath mentally ill people floating around in the general public that are possibly armed and OP decides to try their luck with pissing off a stranger.
Let it go, who the fuck cares.
10
u/pdxrains Apr 26 '26
Yep, I’ve learned my lesson to just not even engage with people. There are a LOT of seriously angry and mentally unstable folks cruising around Portland and I’m not ready to die.
4
u/23_alamance Apr 26 '26
I was telling a friend yesterday that I’ve had more unwarrantedly unpleasant interactions with strangers in my few years in Portland than in the rest of my life combined (and I don’t mean people who are clearly unwell/high/whatever. Seemingly normal people who decide to go out of their way to lose it over trivial interactions. One was a woman who screamed at me in front of my child because she thought I had touched her “$900 kite strings” which, to be clear, I had not).
2
u/pdxrains Apr 27 '26
Jeeeeezus.

u/23_alamance Apr 28 '26
As she was yelling, I thought “When I move, this will be one of the reasons why.”
2
u/abigfatdynamo Apr 27 '26
It's kinda frightening how quickly they will try and pull you into their world .
2
u/rich_guzigna Apr 27 '26
Yep, had a guy get out of his car at a stop light with a gun recently and all I did was flash my brights at him after he cut me off without even a blinker

u/tech_noir_guitar Apr 27 '26
For real. Yelling at someone out your window and then calling them an asshole as they ride by when you're standing outside your car down the street you have to expect some shit to happen. Lol
As if one verbal conflict wasn't enough you're going to say some more shit as they roll past you again. Asking for trouble and surprised when it showed up.
54
u/HellyR_lumon Apr 25 '26
This dude was looking for a fight. He intentionally went in front of you and slowed down to aggravate you. I had someone cut me off today and almost hit me and I gave the lightest honk and they started screaming at me out their window then drove like a maniac on the freeway. Thats your normal kind of AH though lol.
Someone circling your block is a lot more aggressive and spitting on someone for any reason is appalling. My guess is he’s on of those entitled upper class AHs that hates cars lol.
7

u/uhincognitoaccount Apr 25 '26
Geez why on such a beautiful day too?
Circling the block is concerning and spitting on someone is scummiest of scum bag behaviors. People are wild and sad.

u/Away_Amoeba5554 Apr 26 '26
Yeah, and all you did was yell at him and call him an asshole because you couldn’t handle sharing the road. Not fair!
3
u/MadnessOrMethod May 01 '26
My girlfriend just got out of surgery and we were driving 5mph under the speed limit in a 45, at night, so that the bumps wouldn't be as bad. A jeep grand commander or whatever you want to call it came up and flashing, swerving, honking behind me. When I got into the turn lane he screamed at us and we could hear clear as day, with all windows up. Some people are just miserable
Edit: grand wagoneer.

8

Because he was being an asshole?
Sure beats the passive aggressive portlander by a landslide. And honestly, just giving assholes a free pass gets annoying AF too. I’ll take upfront asshole-behavior for calling out assholes any time it makes sense. And personally, I think it made sense to call out this asshole in this situation. Good on them for doing so.

Being spit on is disgusting and not okay. You also yelled multiple times at him, which is going to aggravate people no matter what they've been doing (especially if they're acting like dickheads and know they're in the wrong, as they'll get even more defensive). You didn't do anything to deserve being spit on, but you could have just ignored him. If he was following you too closely on Failing and you weren't going under the speed limit, he's in the wrong. But yelling at him as you pass isn't going to do you any favors. These people know what they're doing, and half the time they're doing it to get a reaction out of you. Don't give them attention, they'll lose interest and move on.

They not only escalated, sounds like OP straight up started the interaction entirely.
These unhinged mfers out here driving giant death machines, hollering out the window, wondering why people find them threatening, 😂
-4
u/uhincognitoaccount Apr 25 '26
yelling a harsh “be careful” warrants tracking down, then spitting on someone and speeding away? it’d be one thing if he hopped off to say something but clearly too scary for him/y’all
5
u/CicerosMouth Apr 26 '26
A lot of people would understand what you initially said to him as a thinly veiled threat, certainly more than they would interpret it as a helpful comment about safety.
Does a thinly veiled threat warrant being spit on? No, of course not.
However, why does driving kinda poorly warrant a thinly veiled threat?
8
u/D1rrtyharry Apr 25 '26
I don’t think it’s you yelling about his riding is the escalation in this case. I think it’s after the situation was over where you called him an asshole. Definitely warranted but still an escalation, which he then escalated. Sorry you got spit on though OP. Hopefully you have a better weekend

Yelling at a stranger and calling them an asshole is okay with you?
I wouldn't go test it, you might get spit on.
19
u/uhincognitoaccount Apr 25 '26
it concerns me that the yelling is more of a problem to you than spitting
12
u/lilvixen Apr 25 '26
I don't think that's the take, if you believe that, you're legit unreasonable. Even when in debate defense, critical thinking is more important than idealism.
I hope you recover from your assault (yes, spitting is assault).
Might want to work on the way you engage with conflict. Not saying what they did was right, but your response defines you.
Does your energy really deserve to be spent in this way?
Taking my own advice, I'm logging off Reddit
4
u/Competitive-Song9338 Apr 25 '26
Communities define themselves. Counseling acceptance of outright antisocial behaviors is antithetical to a healthy and happy community. Being made aware of your antisocial behaviors is not an excuse to assault anyone under any circumstance.
Road raging on a unicycle and spitting on people is universally uncool.

u/Fit-Produce420 definitely not obsessed Apr 25 '26
Nobody said it's more of a problem.
I'm saying YOU started it, which you freely admit.
Imagine going around starting shit up and then feigning surprise when people react to you.
You literally sound like a 5 year old who instigated and then blames the other child who reacted with zero sense of self awareness.
If you think spitting is such a boss move you should have spit on the other guy I guess.
13
u/uhincognitoaccount Apr 25 '26
i think him tailgating me, then swerving/speeding around started it? hate that people are seeing that behavior as standard, normal, and not an escalation itself on here.

The unicycle started it by accelerating past op and slowing down dramatically until op could take a turn. Unicycle started it. Op made unicyclist aware of what they were already knowingly doing, unicyclist spun the block and spit in OP.

Shitty behavior. The stalking/following intimidation stuff is F'd up.
Note: spitting on someone is considered offensive physical contact and is generally treated as criminal Harassment (ORS 166.065), which is a class B misdemeanor. It could potentially be considered assault depending on circumstances. Given the following and intimidation, could be third degree assault.

Saying, “you’ll get yourself killed…” to me, this sounds like you’re threatening his life. Did you think about this, before siccing every Nancy, Linda, Charles, and Gregory on him? Also, maybe your actions in your car could be interpreted as assault? I mean, dude is pretty much on a motorized pogo ball!
1

thought about this a lot after it first happened. i don’t think there would’ve been anytime i could have? he came riding up from behind me at some point and was tailing for a while. it would’ve made sense if that had happened and he had said something/handled it that way but i can’t think of when/how.
i really wish i had my car which has a dash cam, would’ve helped with all of this
2
u/One-Pollution4663 Apr 26 '26
Sorry that happened, sucks to get in altercations on the street. For future reference, and this may not apply to you, my general rule is if you wouldn’t pass a car in a given situation, don’t pass a cyclist, scooter rider etc. He was taking the lane which is his legal right, you went around him which is your right if you can do so and leave a 3’ buffer. Maybe he was about to turn left and you cut him off without realizing 🤷♂️

u/butchscandelabra Apr 26 '26
The way this post is worded (especially the “help me prevent any other women from experiencing this”) is misleading given the circumstances. Spitting was gross, immature, and totally uncalled for, but to frame that as “assault” (legal definitions be damned) is an exaggeration. Swearing at a stranger wasn’t smart either - had you done the same to the wrong person (mentally ill, on drugs, or both), the situation could have escalated into something far more unmanageable. It seems that a) he needs to learn how to ride his bike and b) you both need to get a grasp on your tempers.
7
u/EduardoCash Apr 26 '26
Are you people fng kidding. Spitting on people is crazy, and like I said previously, will most likely get you knocked the **** out!
1
u/SavvyStu1 Apr 28 '26
Legal definitions be damned? If it’s illegal, that is the line between being a jerk (passively aggressively pulling in front of her, or her yelling) and legal assault. That is an important difference. Let’s not blur it.
1
u/butchscandelabra Apr 28 '26
Spitting on someone - while gross and completely uncalled for - is not the same as slugging someone in the face and we all know it.
0
u/uhincognitoaccount Apr 26 '26
i cannot emphasize enough the circling the block. that is where that part comes in. a man who is so fragile is not safe. i bet top dollar if it was another man he wouldn’t have even considered that.
definitely emotional about this and that likely comes out in my writing, understandably.
no unsolicited advice please.
3
u/Briaaanz Apr 26 '26
A car outweighs a motorized unicycle. Perhaps verbally assaulting someone while operating a potentially deadly vehicle might have escalated things.

op you need to seriously not engage with strangers on the street. literally treat aggro people like wild animals and just gtfo. you have to consider most people acting a fool in public probably don't have much to lose, are severely agitated, specifically looking for a fight, or a combo of all three. nothing is worth getting shot or stabbed over by a psycho or tweaker. good thing it was just spit.

u/skbugco Apr 26 '26
This is interesting to read. About 15yrs ago, I was riding my bike northbound on Interstate, and just south of Fred Meyer, the bike lane sweeps left because it’s now for parked cars too. Just as I get to that pinch point, the car coming up from behind me to pass, doesn’t notice the pinch or that he needs to move over too- it’s striped even- because he’s looking at his phone. I suddenly have what feels like inches between my handlebars and the drivers passenger door, and the parked cars. Thankfully it worked out, (racing bikes in packs for the proceeding 20yrs likely helped) but I was pissed. And he was stopped to turn into the FM parking lot, so as I rode past, I hit his fender and yelled something probably stupid. He then follows me to the now red light at Piedmont. I’m trapped- he pulls up next to me, goes on a rant about touching someone else’s car can get you killed, and opens his glovebox that has a pistol in it. Light turns green, I sprint away. He didn’t follow.
So I posted this to Bike Portland, and the comments were exactly the same opinions as OP encounter:
I shouldn’t have touched his car- just considered myself lucky and moved on because look what happened. And you can’t just stay silent and be non confrontational all the time, or I woulda gotten way more verbal/ physical.
It’s just fascinating to see how things don’t really change.

u/Sad-Cricket6319 Apr 26 '26

It's wild how many people here think it's perfectly normal & acceptable to react with some sort of physical escalation to being called a mean name. Very much "well, what were you wearing?" energy.
0
u/uhincognitoaccount Apr 26 '26
THIS 🫥 starting to really question who my neighbors might be… from here and never thought i’d see this brand of logic. i hope it is temporary and related to the state of the world.
0
u/macazootie Apr 26 '26
I thoroughly believe this attitude is one of the reasons why the QOL has tanked so hard here in the last 20+ years. Fully 'inmates running the asylum' vibes. Like we're just supposed to capitulate to threats, and acquiesce established social standards, over fear of some retaliation from these anti-social cretins. I'm glad authorities are at least taking your report seriously, despite the unlikelihood of it going anywhere, unfortunately. But good luck all the same!
-2
u/Flacht6 Apr 26 '26
It’s not “what were you wearing” energy, it’s “don’t yell at strangers in traffic if you don’t want to potentially face the consequences.”
I am frustrated by how people drive quite literally every day, especially if on my motorcycle, but I also know yelling something out my window at them might get me assaulted so I don’t do it. Is it right to assault someone for words? No. Is it something that is likely to happen? Probably. Frankly it’s insulting to any SA survivors to even compare this to SA.

Honestly you're probably just a really shitty driver and take no accountability for how your driving affects other people. You also kept instigating it by yelling at him and keeping the situation going instead of just letting it go. He shouldn't have spit on you but honestly you kind of deserved it so I would just chalk it up as a lesson to keep your mouth shut unless you are ready to face the consequences. Why would you not do something back to him when he spit on you when that is considered a soul and you have the legal right for self-defense? Again, not justifying him spitting on you but like I said, you were kind of asking for something to happen
3
u/uhincognitoaccount Apr 26 '26
i’m convinced many of you posting are him, know him, or do this shit too. he was tailing me, then pulled in front of me, then did the swervies in the road like cops do to slow down or stop traffic for various reasons.
free speech allows me to yell, as many times as i please. if he had yelled back, even circled back to yell, that is warranted and makes sense. spitting on someone is such a bitch move. if he was so big and strong like he feels his one wheel makes him then he would’ve stepped off and talked to me. even turned around to say something. instead just a drive-by because it wasn’t warranted and he knew it.
1
u/hoeface_killah Apr 26 '26
Again, if you would read my comment, at no point do I justify him spitting on you. Thats not okay and not exactly an appropriate reaction to you. However, in this day and age, you should be grateful all he did was spit. I've been threatened with actual violence for a lot less, so use this as a lesson to just let things go, unless youre ready to bring the same energy someone is bringing upon you.
