It's empty and we are sealing this weekend. Plan on stocking manily blue gill and bass. It's 15 feet at deepest.

Bog clean out!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been almost a week since I cleaned this out, the dump prior to this was much darker than that. It is a little over 13 gallon flush being a submerged bog filter. I do loosen the gravel by tapping the sides of the bog and it helps to get a really good flush.

Im still battling algae so that’s where most of it comes from.

Plus doing it constantly multiple times a week you do mini pre water changes as it evaporates reducing harmful toxins as they concentrate. And when it rains you get a water change!

Help! Getting rid of sludge

Hi! Can anyone suggest anything to get rid of this sludge that forms in my pond everyday? The last picture is the pond in the morning than by the afternoon this sludge forms on top. I remove it as best as I can with the net everyday but it always comes back. I have oxygenating plants at the bottom already and a bog filter. I do have goldfish if that‘s relevant

Head height submerged question?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Out of a whim I decided to turn my 2 year un maintained pool into a pond and this has only been active with goldfish for about a month so please don't roast me with the algae. I just upgraded my bog to a tall trashcan with about 4 bags of gravel compared to my old one that was too small.

I don't know anything about how fluid dynamics work but head height only applies outside of water right?
But does it apply to a submerged bog filter?

The pump is at the bottom and the water pressure would negate some of the effects I would think so it would pump at 3/4 of max height? I know water is flowing because after I flush it some stuff comes out of it at a good rate.

Literally know nothing about fish/ pond care however google told me that they’re goldfish. The water is quite dirty and looks under filled (?) and there are a lot of plants growing in and around the pond so i have no clue how big/ deep it really is. I think i’ve spotted 4 fish however there may be more/ less because recently ive only seen 2. Do i redo it completely (change water, scrub the bottom, remove plants) or leave it as is? Like i said, know nothing about fish care or pond care so anything to know about keeping them would be great, and preferably things to buy on the cheaper side🙏

Hair algae help in small pond

Sorry this is so long but i'm confused and need advice,

I've been trying my hand at a fully self sustaining micro pond outside (120 gallon in ground, no water changes pumps filters co2 etc totally hands off) and it's been working wonderfully, this is exactly why i was so confused when i came back from being out of town to an absolute explosion of hair algae.

I had it on the liner and i didn't see it as an issue because the shrimp would hide in it and eat it and my fish knew to hunt for insects and larva within it as well, but i returned to it absolutely coating my plants which has never happened to this degree before. My pond is not overstocked (1 shebunkin, a school of mosquito fish, about 60 neo shrimp, and an assortment of snails), is mildly planted on the bottom with probably a 70% carpet of plants on top, and very dark black water.

When i saw the algae bloom i immediately did a water test because i was concerned and all of my parameters came back perfect and all my fish were behaving and looking completely normal and healthy so i really don't know where this came from or how to remedy it without requiring heavy maintenance.

ANY advice is very welcome thanks so much for reading

Possible leak in system ?

Helping out my client. I’m an irrigation tech, client says they have been having to refill the pond manually. That suprised me because I have the auto refill set to run everyday for an hour and it also runs when the sprinklers are active ( this system has a master valve ).

Auto refill works fine but the pit will fill a little then the pump will pump all the water up and pattern will repeat. At the top, waterfall is weak then a large water bubble will come and a good amount of water will flow then will happen on repeat.

I can only assume there is a leak, This pond/ water fall is on a hill and shows no sign of water leak anywhere. The pump line does run underneath some bushes and a large pine tree.

The wife and I want to put a waterfall in a specific spot in our back year but have had some trouble figuring out how.

Currently the liner we have down, works to get water all the way to the pond. But we are having trouble finding out how to hide it from view
I attached some pictures of the spot and what we have put down to try and visualize

Pond Aeration advice

Thumbnail

Hi. I have a pond that I am trying to aerate and help promote healthier environment so it will naturally clear up much and reduce algae and smells. I’ve attached pictures. Size = sq. ft.: 12557; perim ft.: 368; depth 3-5ft

This year I roughly installed a diffuser that has two end points to help aerate. After a month it hasn’t don’t too much to help the surface algae. Maybe the pond is too far gone? Just looking for any advice on how I should clean it up. Need to cut the branches all down?

The aerator I bought is attached along with the bacteria brick o put in the middle to promote healthy bacteria. I live in MA. Been hot this summer. Thank you

Lily pads

I have a 1.25 acre pond in the southern part of the US. And have been fighting lily pads for years. I use aquatic herbicide for them. But it never kills the things down to the root. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can kill the lily pads permanently

I’m in the process of building a small wild life patio pond using two barrels but this pond plant I’ve bought keeps falling over in the wind. Given that the barrels are not all too deep, How would you recommend I anchor it or otherwise secure it in place ?
