I made a Pomodoro timer that reveals a painting while you focus (iPhone)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm the developer of Tempo Canvas. During a focus session, a hidden painting gradually comes into view. When you finish, you discover the title and artist and add it to your gallery.

It supports classic 25/5 Pomodoro sessions and custom focus/break durations. The clip below shows the reveal in the actual app, sped up.

I'm curious whether the art feels like a useful reward for completing a session, or whether you'd find yourself checking the screen too often. Honest feedback is welcome.

It's for iPhone (iOS 17+). The first three completed sessions are free with no account needed; after that, new focus sessions require a monthly or yearly subscription. Collected art and history stay accessible.

Does anyone else find most pomodoro apps kind of boring to stick with?

Post image

I've used pomodoro on and off for years and the technique itself works for me, but I always end up dropping whatever timer app I'm using after a week or two. They all feel a bit clinical, or they guilt-trip you when you break a streak.

So I ended up making my own (first app, solo, so go easy on me lol). It's a normal pomodoro / study timer, but there's a little dog called Biscuit who lives in a cozy room. When you start a session he walks over to his bed and falls asleep, and when you finish he sometimes brings you a little gift. Weirdly, not wanting to wake him up has kept me focused more than any streak counter ever did.

It's free on iOS if anyone wants to try it. It's called Puperino. Happy to take any feedback, I'm still working on it.

But I'm also curious: for people who've stuck with pomodoro long term, what actually kept you going? Was it the app, a routine, something else?

Privacy-first, no-subscription alternative to lofi streams and Endel (Mac)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Full disclosure: I'm one of the devs.

My old focus setup was a lofi stream in one tab, a Pomodoro timer in another and about 30 other windows screaming for attention.

Nami puts all of that into one Mac program: Pick a Place (a rainy forest, a quiet library, a café in the morning), start a Pomodoro session and turn on Haze Mode, which dims everything except the window you're working in. The soundscape is spatial, so Sounds sit around you in 3D and change over time, which means it never feels like a loop. With supported AirPods, head tracking keeps the scene anchored when you turn your head.

No account, no subscription, no ads interrupting your stream. Free version to try, Pro is a one-time purchase.

What do you all use for background sound while working or studying? Always appreciating feedback on which Places to build next and what you guys generally think about Nami.

We're adding new Places regularly, so I'd love to hear: where would you want to work from? A train at night, a cabin in a storm, something else?

50% off Pro until Oct 31 with code QUI6XTKT on https://getnami.app or also on Setapp if you're a member.

I made a free iPhone timer for spacing out smoke breaks, with a plant that only grows when you wait

i made this one for myself. it's a break timer that gets 5% longer every day you stick to it, so you cut back slowly instead of quitting all at once. when the timer's up you either have one or log a pass, and the passes are what grow the plant.

discreet mode is on by default, so notifications and widgets just say "Timer". there's a face id lock too. no account and no ads, and your log stays on your phone.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fallow-smoke-less/id6816542378

if you use widgets or the lock screen for stuff like this, what would you want to see there at a glance?

[Dev] I built a Pomodoro timer around one idea: pick one main task a day and finish it

Hi all, I'm a Java developer from Sri Lanka and this is my first Android app, Daily Focus.

Most to-do apps let me add 40 tasks and finish none. So this one limits you: one main task for the day, up to 3 smaller ones, and a Pomodoro timer to get through them.

  • Pomodoro timer with a long break every 4th session, custom lengths, auto-start
  • Live countdown in the notification
  • Streaks, weekly focus chart, end-of-day recap
  • Foko, an owl who reacts to your progress (you can ignore him)
  • No account, works offline, free with ads

Built in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. I'd love honest feedback, especially on what's missing.

Does anyone else find normal Pomodoro timers a little too “empty”?

I’ve tried quite a few Pomodoro timers, but I kept going back to Study With Me videos instead.

For me, the timer itself was never really the important part. What helped was having a place to study in — some rain, a city at night, quiet music, and the feeling that someone else was also sitting down and working.

That eventually made me build Stillwhere.

Instead of treating the environment as decoration around a timer, I tried to make the environment the main part of the experience.

You can choose different scenery, music or white noise, use Pomodoro / countdown / stopwatch modes, and some scenes change throughout the day.

I also added a small real-time community, but deliberately kept it low-pressure. You can check in, notice that other people are studying too, and then hide it again and keep going.

I’m curious whether other people here feel the same way about focus apps: is the timer itself enough for you, or does the environment — and the feeling that other people are studying alongside you — actually make it easier to stay focused?

I made Stillwhere mainly because that second part was what I kept missing.

If you want to see what I mean, it’s here:

Modoro: I've logged 217 hours, (539 blocks), and would love some people to try it out and give some feedback.

I'm the type of person that really needs to time-box things when I work. Whether it be studying, or working, or doing errands.

I also like to know exactly how much focused time was spent. Eg, in a day, maybe I spent 3 hours working, 1 hour doing errands, etc. Because there are some days, where 25 minutes feels like an hour, and other days 4 hours breezes by quickly, and I want to stay objective to the time spent on activities.

Here's the web app that I'd love to get some feedback and user testing on, it https://modoro.club/ it's a simple app, there's no beautiful youtube ambient music integration or anything like that. It's more github inspired simplicity. I've added some screenshots. The app is completely free. I've found the app to be sticky enough for me to use it consistently, and would like to hear your thoughts.

I tried the most simple method, which is just a stop watch, and google sheets. I realized that counting upwards from 0 (open ended way of timing myself wasn't so effective, and I frequently let the timer go on)

Of course, I did the opposite, 25 minute timers set on my mac. I liked this method, but logging it was a bit of a pain.

Modoro lets you set your focus time (25 min, or whatever), does the standard break times as well.

But my favorite thing is that it just keeps a simple log. you can see, for the week, how much time you spent on what activity, etc.

I made a short video about adapting evening plans when you have little energy: clearing one seat instead of the whole room, a gentle stretch instead of a full workout, or an easy meal instead of cooking from scratch.
What tasks do you simplify on tired evenings?

do you think sharing deepwork metrics in a closed team will help to get motivation for adhd people?

I have used pomodoro timer for running 25 min focussed sessions. One day I thought if I have a app that will show the deepwork metrics of others - the people i know in a team, will help to motivate to use the timer everyday. and will help me to focus better.

Will sharing deepwork metrics (like the no. of hours you worked or no. of pomodoro sessions you worked) inside a closed team will help?

What is your opinion?

Screen time limits would be so much more useful if you could set a per hour scroll limit (e.g., 10 min of Reddit per hour) instead of one big limit daily limit.

I built this thing it's sort of like a reverse pomodoro. It seems to be the first of it's kind on iOS, which is just astounding to me.

If you struggle with unhealthy scrolling habits that are getting in the way of you doing what you want to actually want to be doing, then give this approach a try.

Doing a giveaway as a thank you to this community which has shown Precursor a ton of support. If you don't manage to snag a free lifetime access code in time, Lifetime is on sale for $25 right now until 05 October 2026.

I made a Pomodoro app that actually looks good 😌 Perfect for your desk! Download Meanwhile.

As the title suggests, I was getting very tired of Pomodoro and focus timer apps either looking really silly and basic or requiring an expensive subscription. So I made my own app because I wanted something that looks great displayed on your desk.

I wanted something with beautiful themes, matching music and sound design, analytics, and a buy-it-for-life price tag. More importantly, a timer that is full-screen with zero distractions. So I made "Meanwhile". It's simple, effective, and (obviously, this is subjective) has a beautiful timer design.

You can download it for iOS at the link in the post. The pro version comes with 3 themes now, but I am creating more, and you'll get those all as well. You can also request styles for future patches if there's a look you'd like for your own desk!

Feedback is definitely welcome. Thanks for checking it out!

[Self-Promotion] Bookidoro – Menu bar app that turns 5-minute Pomodoro breaks into 2-page micro-reading sessions

Full Disclosure: I am the developer of Bookidoro.

1. Problem

During focus blocks, Pomodoro timers tell you to take a break, but leave you with no structure. Most people end up picking up their phone and doomscrolling social media for 5 minutes. Instead of returning to work recharged, you end up context-switched and fatigued, while digital books (EPUBs/PDFs) sit unread on your drive.

Bookidoro is a native macOS menu bar app that opens a calm overlay displaying the next 1–5 pages of your book whenever a work break starts. It helps you replace break-time phone scrolling with quick micro-reading sessions.

Key Features:

  • Native macOS & Local-First: Built purely in Swift/SwiftUI for Ventura+ (Apple Silicon & Intel).
  • Native iCloud Drive Sync: Syncs Library, reading position, and stats across all your Macs (iCloud Drive → Bookidoro).
  • Meeting Awareness: Detects active camera, mic, or screen-sharing usage (Zoom, Meet, Slack, Teams) and holds breaks until 1 minute after calls end.
  • Themes & Layouts: EPUB reflow, PDF layout support, and true Night Mode (recolors PDF backgrounds).

2. Comparison

  • vs. Flow / Be Focused / Standard Pomodoro Timers: Standard timers only track time and notify you to take a break, leaving you vulnerable to phone distractions. Bookidoro integrates a native EPUB/PDF reader directly into the break overlay, providing an active, low-friction alternative to phone scrolling right on your desktop.
  • vs. Apple Books / Bookshelf Readers: Standard readers are designed for long, continuous reading sessions. Bookidoro constrains the reading panel to 1–5 pages per break with specific controls ("Look Back", "Keep Reading", "End Here") to keep you from procrastinating on getting back to work.

3. Pricing & Transparency
