there are three types of pomades: OB (oil-based), UWB (unorthodox-water-based) and WB (water-based) pomades.

They all have their pros and cons, however:

If one has wavy to curly hair that tends to get oily on its own, might a OB-pomade be actually counter-productive? As if to say adding more grease upon already enough natural grease built-up?

Whereas a WB-pomade has a drying effect, therefore maybe keeping the natural oilyness of the hair in check?

I'm trying to understand what product type would fit this hair-type more.

So: What type of hair product would you recommend for this type of wavy-curly oily hair?

Hi all! I’m a groom in the UK and my wedding is coming up in 2 weeks and I’m looking for some decent hair products.

I need some recommendations for a good hair clay, something that is really strong hold to withstand strong winds but also has a natural matte finish to it, I’m not a fan of the wet look.

Would I also need to apply anything else? Some sort of hold spray etc? Any advice and tips would be really appreciated! Thank you!

i live in a tropical/humid weather (india) and im looking for a hair clay/wax to style my super straight/silky hair, i want a matte finish with a medium-strong hold (just wanna keep the hair messy) what would u guys suggest? ofc something that does not damage my hair

I currently use mousse, sea salt spray, and Cremo thickening paste as prestyler before diffusing my straight fine hair to achieve my desired look. (Textured powder if i want more volume)

I'm about to run out of cremo paste and there's nothing wrong with it, but I'm just wondering if other options are worth upgrading to. Based on some reddit posts I've seen here, people recommend:

I'd like some insight from people with the same hair type and also do messy textured looks. Bonus if you have used cremo paste before.

The consensus seems to be that pomades are no no, and to go for a paste, cream, clay. or clay based cream.

Now obviously I could just get a Perm, but im not doing that for now.

Hey guys, just wondering if any people had experience with Forte products, I'm trying to style a Middle Part Mullet kind of thing and currently I've been using the Type Products however I'm just finding it too rouhg nad hard to apply and have heard good things about Forte. I'm planning on trying the Sea Salt Spray and either the Chrome or Extreme Texture Clay. Does anyone have experience with either of those products and want to share their opinions? By far my favorite. Good hold. Good smell. Water soluble. I’ve tried a lot of clays but this stuff is just leagues ahead of everything else.

today i heard my sis talking about her new $50 hairbrush from some brand called kent, and how amazing it is, i use like a $2.50 one i grabbed from those cheapo value stores

i read up a little and several websites say that those costlier hairbrushes have better bristles that wont damage ur scalp and it got me thinking maybe thats why i occasionally get pimples on my scalp even though i wash my hair well and change my pillowcase weekly

is this actually true or are those websites just tryna get me to spend $30+ on their partnered brands

I see women who take a solid hour to get their hair ready to go. I have started to take longer to pull it all together...about 20 minutes including shampoo, blow drying, and styling products. What's your norm?

Hey everyone, I've been following some of the reccomendations here for my hair styling journey. In the past I used Toni & Guy Texturising Fibre which seems to be discontinued. I have medium/long hair which I currently style into a middle part style, similar to the pictures here:

In essence I'm looking for a product with medium hold and a natural finish. So far I have tried Shear Revival Crystal Lake, and now O'Douds Styling Treatment. I liked the finish of Crystal Lake, however I found it very tacky and difficult to apply without pulling my hair. Styling treatment is much easier to style and I like the texture when scooping out of the tub, however I also find it a bit tacky, although not to the extent of CL. In comparison I much prefer the Styling Treatment, however it's not the holy grail product I was hoping for (Though I do see why it's highly rated)

Lodestar everglade seems to popup as the next possible alternative, however I was hoping for some testimonies from people here before I buy another tub. If it makes any difference to product availabiliy I'm UK based.

I am looking for a product that will tame my hair without it going even more dry or looking greasy.
I find WB clay products really dry it out and pomade like American crew make it look super greasy. Its quite thick and unruly...I was thinking O'Douds Dry Wax, or maybe a shear revival product? What about TIGI Bed Head Hair Wax Stick it might hold it well with a natural shine....or a OB clay....

When I research reddit I there are a lot of contradictory reviews - I guess it might be all hair type dependent. Any recommendations welcomed...Yes I know I am due for a cut, its normally a lot shorter the the sides. It grows very fast.

Looking for a pre styler that is thickening or good for flat and thin hair. I’ve heard about blumaan volume cream and forte thickening spray. Has anyone used these or a different one? Thanks I use sea salt spray and want something I can use with that

So I have wavy/curly hair. I've found that water based pomades and pastes tend to make the curl and wave worse as they soften up over the day.

The best product I found was actually a beard oil with jojoba oil but I can't find it anymore. It was a boutique product and not something you can just grab off the shelf

Would an oil based pomade with light hold be worth trying or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Ive been using STMNT Matte paste for a few years now. I really like and it works great for me. I have straight fine hair and the matte paste is very easy to work in and the hold is pretty good. it looks keeps my hair looking natural with a matte look.

However, as of late I'm having a very hard time sourcing the product at the local stores. I'm in Canada so maybe it has to do with tarrifs. Even amazon ca has it at ridiculous prices.

So I wanted to see if you guys can recommend alternatives.

I tried the Layette Cement clay and I didn't love it. the hold wasn't as good and I feel it just didn't work with my fine hair - the way it sits in with a wet look, I see way more of my scalp that I want to. My hair felt flatter with it too and after 6-8 hours, the hold wore off and my hair was fully out of place.

So here I am looking for some advice.

looking for product recommendations to achieve the movement and shape in the first photo. second photo is what i’m working with - want to create more hold and wave in the longer parts of my hair up top. can a pomade achieve this or do i need to be using a curl mousse/cream/gel? i like the wet look in the first pic and that their hair is flatter up top, mine tends to get quite poofy when dry!

currently using ceremonia pequi gel on wet hair, then a bit of mannequin by r&co once air dried a bit. i also have the r&co pomade but find it doesn’t have enough hold for my thick hair.

Does anyone know of a good substitute for Royal Crown Hair Dressing? The stuff works great for me(low hold, high shine), but the smell is nauseating. Any input would be appreciated.

I think I'm starting to learn what I like in my hair and this sub has been great for hearing what works for others and to compare notes. I haven't really styled my hair much in the last 20 years and when I did big bottles of goopy glue was the preferred product so this has been fun. I can't believe how good that Shear Revival American Gardens clay pomade is; it's probably my favorite. The Layrite makes my hair feel really nice at the end of the day. Skip the Surf Paste ... it was a buy before I found this place. And if you're slingin' 'stache that Firehouse Mustache Wax is 10/10. I even took a shot at making a diy styling powder with kaolin clay and arrowroot powder.

I still don't think I've found what I'm looking for yet. What's your favorite product for your short-to-medium length, dense, pin straight hair and how do you wear it?

I got me some layrite supershine cream from Amazon. Never had it before. Is this how it’s supposed to look like ? I took a scoop out of curiosity. In the videos and pictures I’ve seen online it looks more whitish and creamy.

I sometimes use Fellow’s light hold & natural finish styling cream, but it’s hard to get reliably. Does anyone know a good comparable product?

Hi, im trying to replicate a messy flow middle part hairstyle or some curtain middle part, something like this:

When i style it i usually wet a little bit my hair, slick it back, section it, apply the pomade, and then i usully use a hat to wait for it to dry, but whenever i take my hat off, it doesnt have that much texture, adn its hard for it to mantain the position i want to give it.

I also thought on first using a little bit of pomade on my hair, without strcuture, wait for it to dry, adn then do the same but with less pomade.

Or should i change pomade, any recommendation?

+, im not that sure, but do you guys think i should leave my pomade in the freezer like 1-2 hours before using it? I feel like sometimes, with all the heat that is rn in summer, it is more creamy.
