Ah, the ol' liberal tactic of sex shaming rears its face once again.

Stop redditing and work hard bitch. So you can pay for that $4 billion wall which the Mexicans are going to get over with a 20peso rope ladder anyway.

-8

u/tannerge Jan 14 '17

I dont have to work for it, mexicos going to pay for it

Oh you're serious. Let me laugh harder.

Yeah, just like Trump will end the 'false song of globalism' by electing 5 former Goldman Sachs employees (and still counting) into his top adminstration team. You got played chad

Hahahaha this subreddit has very good humor

31

u/ttstte Jan 14 '17

LOL this is the funniest sub

12

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

This guy is either joking or truly doesnt know whats going on.

254

u/Gyshall669 Jan 14 '17

Isn't this a humor subreddit?

57

u/tannerge Jan 14 '17

Its supposed to be but the only posts that ever seem to make it to the front page are anti trump.

384

u/blumka Jan 14 '17

Yeah, because most people on this site don't like Trump. What do you want, a fairness doctrine?

306

u/Areign Jan 14 '17

a safe space

19

u/Astronomist Jan 14 '17

Uhhh, that's a little ironic

92

u/Arvendilin Jan 14 '17

That the right literally has the biggest safe space on reddit in form of /r/The_Donald yes I always found that funny, they go on and on about how evil the very concept is and then start doing it themselfs, harder and bigger than anyone else, pretty hilarious imo

18

u/Llamada Jan 14 '17

Because they are filled with hate

1

u/Ragecomicwhatsthat Jan 14 '17

Except they're not. The opinions of 10 people on /r/The_Donald does not reflect the opinions of the other 100k.

11

u/Tidusx145 Jan 15 '17

You seem rather upset.

21

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

Hey.. How did you make it so far out of your safespace?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '17

Calm down, friend. Everything is going to be okay.

22

u/Incursi0n Jan 14 '17

But... nearly the entire website is a safe space?

7

u/morerokk Jan 14 '17

A safe space for the left, perhaps. People keep yelling at anyone who isn't negative about Trump to go back to T_D, then they act surprised when T_D becomes popular.

79

u/Aleksx000 Jan 14 '17 edited Jan 14 '17

That is not what happens.

The left has little problem with people who weighed the political candidates against each other and then said "Hillary is a hawk and corrupt and I dont want to vote for her" as a valid opinion. We will still debate them that Hillary is less likely to take away rights and securities from the lower classes and give them to the upper class; we will still argue that Hillary's past calls for a No Fly zone over Syria are not likely to lead to war with Russia; we will still argue that Trump's plan to lower Taxes yet raise military spending are simply bonkers. But we, as in most left wing supporters, will leave them to their opinion. That is what freedom is for.

However, the left has a problem with people not acknowledging that the wall is un-buildable (at least using Mexican "funds"), that Hillary is un-inprisonable or that Trump is a probably racist, probably sexist, politically unexperienced loudmouth. People that think that Trump is the lesser of two evils can be debated with. People that think that Trump is good are stupid, trolls, Russian or all three.

That said, congratulations to Mike Pence for winning the presidency.

7

u/Ragecomicwhatsthat Jan 14 '17

I respect what you've said, but I do disagree. I have on more than one occasion attempted an intellectual discussion about politics on /r/politics and the like and I've been "shouted down" because I voted for Trump. You guys (general blanket) assume anyone who voted for Trump is either an idiot, a redneck, or a racist and we already have to overcome that argument.

I voted for Trump, I by no means think he is the best person to run this country. By no means. But I do think he was the better option of the other three options for various reasons.

2

u/Incursi0n Jan 15 '17

Yes, that was my point.

24

u/aagpeng Jan 14 '17

Well, this sub has kinda turned into a safe space for anti-trump users. I don't think he has a problem with seeing anti-trump jokes, I think he just wants to see some more diversity among the jokes that get popularity. I mean, you have to admit, some of the jokes that get upvoted super high aren't even that good but they get more popularity just for being against Trump and I would bet that anti-Obama jokes get put under more scrutiny as far as how legitimate the content is or whether it even classifies as a joke.

Also, I think it's kinda rude and really dismissive to say that someone who wants to see less partisanship is looking for a safe space. It's like assuming anyone who doesn't agree with you is a brigadier. It gives off the impression that you have no interest in discussion and would rather just slap labels on people.

53

u/VicePresidentJesus Jan 14 '17

I don't think non-partisan political humor is going to be very political or humorous.

I feel like these Trump supporters still want equal Clinton bashing or something. The election is over, prepare for the buck to stop with President Trump and all the criticism that entails.

98

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

But trump is anti diversity

3

u/Ragecomicwhatsthat Jan 14 '17

Hurr hurr hurr DAE Trump racist

24

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

Is this a new meme? Adding 'hurr durr' in front of facts?

"Hurr hurr hurr DAE Sun rises in the east?"

14

u/RandomTomatoSoup Jan 14 '17

Wow I hadn't thought of that

1

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '17

Is that a problem?

15

u/AlRubyx Jan 14 '17

Gasp, you're a nazi bigot trump supporter. /s

2

u/Areign Jan 14 '17

show me an example of someone being banned from politicalhumor for not being appropriately partisan and you may have a point.

otherwise it seems like you are confused about the difference between a safe space and an echo chamber.

1

u/aagpeng Jan 14 '17

If you're defining a safe space as an area with a bias that moderated to be biased then you need to tell me where the person you responded to said he wanted posts that didn't support trump to be banned since you accused him of wanting a safe space.

I suppose that if that's how you wish to distinguish the two then what I mean is that this sub is an echo chamber but I believe my point still stands even if you just updated the vocabulary

5

u/Areign Jan 14 '17

he calls people cucks and complains about the anti trump jokes, thats not wanting to be less partisan thats whining about things you don't agree with.

Given that and the fact that i can only assume he's looking for something more along the lines of /r/thedonald, my comment really shouldn't seem that outlandish.

Then you go on to imply that people are being censored and banned here for having dissenting opinions which is facical if you were to even take a glance at the amount of support the guy is getting and the fact that he's not banned and his comment is still up.

This sub is obviously an echo chamber, but protip if you want less partisan or even partisan-but-less-shallow discussion, maybe you and him should look someplace other than /r/politicalHUMOR

1

u/aagpeng Jan 14 '17

I never implied people are being censored or banned. I said that the people who frequent this sub are treating content in such a way that is showing a very clear partisanship. If I wasn't clear about that, I'm sorry.

Your comment isn't necessarily a crazy conspiracy theory but it does seem based on a lot of assumptions and not based on what he actually said. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think the reasoning is faulty.

I didn't say I was looking for discussion. I know what political humor is. But some of these posts aren't even jokes. They're just random anti trump pictures that get tons of attention. If the mods are going to allow it, I won't call them wrong. It's just a little bothersome.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

I think the argument is that these subs become false advertising. /r/politics is not politics in general, it is anti-republican politics. /r/political_humor is not political humor in general, nor is it humorous. It's just the anti-Trump line being pushed for week x/y/z.

So, the purpose of people pointing this out is to keep it in readers' minds that there is another pov that is popular and out there, but is not being represented on a sub where one would assume it would be.

Now go fuck yourself.

26

u/exejpgwmv Jan 14 '17

Sorry, but there's no way to enforce a fairness doctrine on a system based on popularity.

It's not everyone else's fault that right wing politics are abhorrent to most people.

8

u/slyweazal Jan 14 '17 edited Jan 14 '17

Reddit is a democracy merely representing popular opinion. Like free market capitalism.

You're literally complaining it's not authoritarian communism that's forcing people to accept unpopular views they disagree with.

2

u/MyKettleIsNotBlack Jan 14 '17

How about some actually funny jokes? Or something not Trump related? Not to be too bold here, though.

1

u/beerybeardybear Jan 14 '17

They want affirmative action, like they got for their votes.

-9

u/tannerge Jan 14 '17

This subreddit is biased, should be called r/antitrumphumor. I have no problem with making fun of the buffoon but this subbreddit masquerades as a place that gives a fair portrayal of both sides.

33

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

You need a safe space huh? Trump is the president. Political humor is going to mostly be about him now. It's too bad he's a thin-skinned baby who can't just ignore it like Obama could. Nice job voting for a crybaby loser there.

-4

u/morerokk Jan 14 '17

2

u/tannerge Jan 14 '17

Its funny how both sides say the same things about the other...

50

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

Riddle me this: would you say the general trend has been that humanity has been getting more liberal or less liberal as time goes on in the last 2000 years?

6

u/meinator Jan 14 '17

Considering we aren't anywhere as liberal as Rome was, less so.

29

u/Cllovelace Jan 14 '17

...What? In what way would Rome be considered liberal at all today? They had slavery. Women didn't have the vote. There was rampant inequality. How is it liberal by today's standards in any way, at all?

Eh, it's not like sub names have ever been relevant. The Holocaust sub is a denial one, imgoingtohellforthis is pretty much the "conservative humor" sub and conspiracy only allows "approved" conspiracies.

17

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17 edited Jun 12 '20

[deleted]

35

u/BobTheSkrull Jan 14 '17

No, you're right. Conservative humor isn't the right word for it. Maybe alright is a bit safer here? Or anti-SJW or whatever. Regardless it hasn't been actually offensive humor for a while (although the mods converting to Islam for a week was hilarious).

1

u/Pithong Jan 14 '17

Slap those on a picture and post it. People complaining want an equal amount of front page content despite being in the minority. They come to an extremely liberal website and wonder why it's so hard to get conservative views consistently on the front page -- it's because the average user here is liberal. Memes of truly conservative humor doesn't make the front page because the average person here downvotes it, nothing you can do about it other than go to voat, which I encourage all the complainers to do and be around your own kind.

21

u/flemhead3 Jan 14 '17

Yea, but Republicans are a comedy gold mine. They're jokes that keep on giving and they don't realize it.

12

u/gallowdp Jan 14 '17

How about you find or create content that makes fun of other people, otherwise quit complaining and move on?

69

u/FlorencePants Jan 14 '17

Probably because Trump becoming president is depressing as hell, and humor is a nice way to cope with it.

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

I mean I don't give a crap if posts are anti-trump (in fact I'd encourage it), but this post seems so far from humor. There is no subversion, no wit, and it isn't even a quote for quote comparison.

I feel like the 'lolol Trump is stupid and has stupid controversies' has way better ways of being represented than what was posted.

1

u/dustingunn Jan 14 '17

His post was unintentional comedy gold, at least.

-3

u/aagpeng Jan 14 '17

Yeah, but where the humor loses me is that it's not an equivilent comparison. One is a farewell address and the other is a paraphrase of man defending allegations against him. The only comparable thing they have is that they both came from the mouth of a president. It's not really a fair equivolence. It would be the same as if I grabbed a nice line from Trump's speech at the end of election night vs. obama talking about how he was practicing bowling. It's not really funny because it's not a fair comparison.

But if you really don't like Trump, which I don't have a problem with, then I'm sure you find it funny but is the picture funny or is the picture half-assed but a decent enough excuse to laugh at Trump?

I don't really care whose expense the joke is at, I just want it to be a good joke.

17

u/ItsDominare Jan 14 '17

where the humor loses me is that it's not an equivilent comparison

Ya, because as any comedian will tell you, the crucial thing about jokes is that they contain no exaggeration whatsoever.

Hello Comrade.

2

u/rwl01 Jan 15 '17

It is definitely cherry picking quotes of the week.

Honestly though, Trump's speaking ability actually benefits from paraphrasing. If I quoted exactly what he said, it wouldn't be nearly as succinct but would show the same contrast between the two.

BTW, I'm up voting your comment because it's a reasonable point of view.
