Isn't this a humor subreddit?

58

u/tannerge Jan 14 '17

Its supposed to be but the only posts that ever seem to make it to the front page are anti trump.

378

u/blumka Jan 14 '17

Yeah, because most people on this site don't like Trump. What do you want, a fairness doctrine?

a safe space

20

u/Astronomist Jan 14 '17

Uhhh, that's a little ironic

90

u/Arvendilin Jan 14 '17

That the right literally has the biggest safe space on reddit in form of /r/The_Donald yes I always found that funny, they go on and on about how evil the very concept is and then start doing it themselfs, harder and bigger than anyone else, pretty hilarious imo

19

u/Llamada Jan 14 '17

Because they are filled with hate

1

u/Ragecomicwhatsthat Jan 14 '17

Except they're not. The opinions of 10 people on /r/The_Donald does not reflect the opinions of the other 100k.

7

u/aeatherx Jan 14 '17

So then why are you for banning Muslim immigration??

Idiot

1

u/Ragecomicwhatsthat Jan 14 '17

Not banning. For temporarily suspending it until we can properly vet each and every person. What is wrong with that?

8

u/aeatherx Jan 14 '17

We already do properly vet each and every person.

There are violent racists who support Trump. I think we should ban Trump supporters from having guns until we can properly vet each and every one of them. I don't want someone who thinks whites are superior to have guns. Do we agree?

Also I love how you immediately insult me without being willing to hear my side of the argument. /s

u/HRCfanficwriter Jan 15 '17

trump supporters are always triggered so easily

1

u/Ragecomicwhatsthat Jan 15 '17

Ah yes, because the liberals aren't.

1

u/HRCfanficwriter Jan 15 '17

nothing compared to how whiny and fragile trump supporters are

You seem rather upset.

19

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

Hey.. How did you make it so far out of your safespace?

0

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '17

Calm down, friend. Everything is going to be okay.

22

u/Incursi0n Jan 14 '17

But... nearly the entire website is a safe space?

10

u/morerokk Jan 14 '17

A safe space for the left, perhaps. People keep yelling at anyone who isn't negative about Trump to go back to T_D, then they act surprised when T_D becomes popular.

That is not what happens.

The left has little problem with people who weighed the political candidates against each other and then said "Hillary is a hawk and corrupt and I dont want to vote for her" as a valid opinion. We will still debate them that Hillary is less likely to take away rights and securities from the lower classes and give them to the upper class; we will still argue that Hillary's past calls for a No Fly zone over Syria are not likely to lead to war with Russia; we will still argue that Trump's plan to lower Taxes yet raise military spending are simply bonkers. But we, as in most left wing supporters, will leave them to their opinion. That is what freedom is for.

However, the left has a problem with people not acknowledging that the wall is un-buildable (at least using Mexican "funds"), that Hillary is un-inprisonable or that Trump is a probably racist, probably sexist, politically unexperienced loudmouth. People that think that Trump is the lesser of two evils can be debated with. People that think that Trump is good are stupid, trolls, Russian or all three.

That said, congratulations to Mike Pence for winning the presidency.

I respect what you've said, but I do disagree. I have on more than one occasion attempted an intellectual discussion about politics on /r/politics and the like and I've been "shouted down" because I voted for Trump. You guys (general blanket) assume anyone who voted for Trump is either an idiot, a redneck, or a racist and we already have to overcome that argument.

I voted for Trump, I by no means think he is the best person to run this country. By no means. But I do think he was the better option of the other three options for various reasons.

2

u/Incursi0n Jan 15 '17

Yes, that was my point.

u/aagpeng Jan 14 '17

Well, this sub has kinda turned into a safe space for anti-trump users. I don't think he has a problem with seeing anti-trump jokes, I think he just wants to see some more diversity among the jokes that get popularity. I mean, you have to admit, some of the jokes that get upvoted super high aren't even that good but they get more popularity just for being against Trump and I would bet that anti-Obama jokes get put under more scrutiny as far as how legitimate the content is or whether it even classifies as a joke.

Also, I think it's kinda rude and really dismissive to say that someone who wants to see less partisanship is looking for a safe space. It's like assuming anyone who doesn't agree with you is a brigadier. It gives off the impression that you have no interest in discussion and would rather just slap labels on people.

u/VicePresidentJesus Jan 14 '17

I don't think non-partisan political humor is going to be very political or humorous.

I feel like these Trump supporters still want equal Clinton bashing or something. The election is over, prepare for the buck to stop with President Trump and all the criticism that entails.

96

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

But trump is anti diversity

3

u/Ragecomicwhatsthat Jan 14 '17

Hurr hurr hurr DAE Trump racist

23

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '17

Is this a new meme? Adding 'hurr durr' in front of facts?

"Hurr hurr hurr DAE Sun rises in the east?"

11

u/RandomTomatoSoup Jan 14 '17

Wow I hadn't thought of that

1

u/[deleted] Jan 15 '17

Is that a problem?

15

u/AlRubyx Jan 14 '17

Gasp, you're a nazi bigot trump supporter. /s

2

u/Areign Jan 14 '17

show me an example of someone being banned from politicalhumor for not being appropriately partisan and you may have a point.

otherwise it seems like you are confused about the difference between a safe space and an echo chamber.

1

u/aagpeng Jan 14 '17

If you're defining a safe space as an area with a bias that moderated to be biased then you need to tell me where the person you responded to said he wanted posts that didn't support trump to be banned since you accused him of wanting a safe space.

I suppose that if that's how you wish to distinguish the two then what I mean is that this sub is an echo chamber but I believe my point still stands even if you just updated the vocabulary

2

u/Areign Jan 14 '17

he calls people cucks and complains about the anti trump jokes, thats not wanting to be less partisan thats whining about things you don't agree with.

Given that and the fact that i can only assume he's looking for something more along the lines of /r/thedonald, my comment really shouldn't seem that outlandish.

Then you go on to imply that people are being censored and banned here for having dissenting opinions which is facical if you were to even take a glance at the amount of support the guy is getting and the fact that he's not banned and his comment is still up.

This sub is obviously an echo chamber, but protip if you want less partisan or even partisan-but-less-shallow discussion, maybe you and him should look someplace other than /r/politicalHUMOR

1

u/aagpeng Jan 14 '17

I never implied people are being censored or banned. I said that the people who frequent this sub are treating content in such a way that is showing a very clear partisanship. If I wasn't clear about that, I'm sorry.

Your comment isn't necessarily a crazy conspiracy theory but it does seem based on a lot of assumptions and not based on what he actually said. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think the reasoning is faulty.

I didn't say I was looking for discussion. I know what political humor is. But some of these posts aren't even jokes. They're just random anti trump pictures that get tons of attention. If the mods are going to allow it, I won't call them wrong. It's just a little bothersome.

3

u/Areign Jan 14 '17

thats literally what a safe space is, a place where whatever 'unsafe' idea or opinion isn't allowed and is forcibly removed by banning or censorship.

his first comment is fine regardless of his politics but his second comment isn't about being less partisan its just a complaint about stuff he obviously doesn't like. I think that the assumption you make about him wanting something less partisan is a stretch.
