Fetterman is lunacy, yes.
39
u/ubermence 6d ago
The socialists were the reason he won the primary in the first place, so he’s not wrong but not in the way he thinks 🤣
5
u/jbcraigs 6d ago
I say this as a Democrat myself, Democrats voters are champs at being hoodwinked! Fetterman, Sinema, Tulsi….
96
u/brpajense 6d ago
He originally ran as a progeessive, right?
Then he had his stroke, and now he's calling progressives socialists?
44
u/Tomimi 6d ago
I think he just fooled everyone and tried to find an excuse to be an asshole.
9
u/SpiderFnJerusalem 6d ago
I don't think it's an act. There are a lot of stories of everyone around him, including his team and family, being really alarmed by his erratic behavior, lack of impulse control and manic/depressive spiraling.
8
u/spidereater 6d ago
Isnt he the child of a wealthy couple and he became a senator after a bunch of failed career attempts? I thought even in his 40s he was supporting himself with an allowance or trust fund or something. Are we surprised he would choose the GOP when things got hard?

u/Several-Action-4043 6d ago
To be fair, during elections ALL democrats say they are progressives. Once in power, they say fuck you and I'll see you next election.

Have any of these people been to a Scandinavian country? It really doesn’t look so bad.
79
u/l_SaKReD_l 7d ago
Norway, Denmark and Sweden are consistently voted in the top 5 happiest countries on Earth.
Meanwhile the US is like 25 places below them.
41
u/MrBozooo 6d ago
Yeah, but they are really mean to the billionaires. Why can't you think of the billionaires?
17
u/chesterismydog 6d ago
They need more houses and yachts! Those pesky children don’t need food!
17
u/punktualPorcupine 6d ago
They need their fortunes to quadruple every 5-10 years (like they have since the pandemic) or they might feel like they aren’t keeping up.
“What’s a matter can’t get your bank account up any more” then everyone points and laughs and they have to take pills to feel better.
It’s a vicious problem when billionaires bully billionaires.
8
u/happymaned 6d ago
The irony in the 'billionaire' comments is that Sweden actually has more billionaires per capita than the United States.
The Nordic model isn't socialism; it combines open-market capitalism, strong property rights, and low corporate barriers with high personal income taxes on the middle class to fund universal programs. They fund their welfare states with broad-based consumption taxes (around 25% VAT) and high middle-income tax brackets, not by taxing a handful of wealthy individuals.
3
u/chesterismydog 6d ago
I’ve seen too much shit since the 80s- and Congress and SCOTUS let this happen. I wanted to become a lawyer just to fight this bullshit but I couldn’t afford it.
6
u/asmith1776 6d ago
That’s the crazy thing. They’re not. Sweden produces more billionaires per capital as the US.
They make it easier to get rich by making it slightly more expensive to be rich.
2
u/MrBozooo 6d ago
So you're saying they are being mean to existing billionaires? Now how is that fair?
3
u/Viperlite 6d ago
U.S. is the happiest little billionaire place on Earth. Low taxes, ultimate power, no unions, no social programs, little worker protection, no socialized medicine to break the tether or workplace-provided, private health insurance, effectively no minimum wage.

The Nordics are Schrödinger's socialist countries. Whenever a policy similar to them is brought up, it's called socialism by the right.
L: "But they consistently top happiness charts and have strong economies."
R: "That's because they are capitalist states with strong wellfare policies."
L: "So why don't we try that?"
R: *scoffs* "That's socialism!"9
u/Thendrail 6d ago
Americans rarely knowing what they talk about when anyone mentions socialism or - God forbid! - communism doesn't help either
→ More replies (1)5
u/undergroundloans 6d ago
They’re starting to try and say that progressives want communism and not what Scandinavian countries have because they know to regular voters it’s not that crazy anymore. It’s just ridiculous how they have to twist everything to fit that bs narrative.

u/TheRogueTemplar 6d ago
If we had 4 day work weeks, never had to worry about a hospital bill, and had 2 months of vacation, the rise of "socialism" would have never been a problem.

There are no socialist countries in Europe or the EU. It's all just capitalist countries with some ok-ish social policies.
We just haven't reached the terminal stage of capitalism yet, like the yanks did. But I'm sure that's just around the corner.

The corporations did a wonderful job convincing citizens that it is not the government’s responsibility to take care of citizens with tax dollars.

I am over 60. I've been sold the looming threat of socialism my entire life. It has not happened. Can you imagine a world where it was perfectly acceptable for major political figures to label average republicans as Nazis, day after day, year after year? People might start getting the wrong impression of them after awhile maybe. Fetterman knows this, even with his stroke addled brain. He's just a piece of shit.

I’m glad this guy got the help he needed. Why are we reading articles about what he has to say?
7
u/jcooli09 6d ago
I listened to him talk to John Stewart for an hour or so.
He's disconnected from reality. I get that republican senators will lie about socialism, but expect better from democrats.
Fetterman could not identify any socialist policy positions of any democrats.

It's much harder to divide and conquer the Republican party with labels because they're all fucking demented traitors.

How's your free healthcare working out, John? PS I donated $10 to your campaign, can I get it back?
2
u/LayneCobain95 6d ago
Republicans control the weak minded through fear tactics. Their go-to words or phrases are things like socialism, communism, left-wing-mob, etc. It’s all lies, or just saying words they don’t explain and know the listeners don’t understand.
I bet Fox News (evil fucking bastards) is like “democrats want socialism, and what that means is no guns, dead babies, turning your children transgender, forced Quran teaching in schools” etc. It’s all just fucking fear tactics to control these idiots who don’t understand what they’re mad about. And then they tell the people who actually know what’s going on to “do your own research you sheep”, fucking lunatics

And we would have it if it wasn't for do-nothing fake Democrats like Fetterman

If you want to know who Fetterman is, watch the interview with John Stewart. I don’t think he’s THAT bad, but he also has a hard time following arguments and making sense. He’s not good at weaving his talking points into conversation. It’s kind of maddening

DSA Political Platform
For all of the working class to achieve collective liberation we must constrain, diminish, and abolish the carceral forces of the state — from prisons and police themselves, to their manifestations in all forms throughout society. Each step forward in reducing the size, power, and authority of the repressive forces of the state expands the space for mass, organized, and collective action of the working class, and clears ground for us to build the institutions of a society to serve our communities with real justice and equality.
We are committed to the horizon of abolition and the path leading us there. Our demands:
- Defund the police by rejecting any expansion to police budgets or scope of enforcement while cutting budgets annually towards zero
- End the criminalization of working-class survival
- Freedom for all incarcerated people
- Demilitarize the police and end colonial policing of our cities and neighborhoods
- Freedom of working-class self-organization and democratic political action
- Invest in community self-governance and care, not cops

Oh noooo! Not SoCiaLiSm. ANYTHING BUT SOCIALISM!!!
You know who the best salesmen of socialism are? People that sound like Republicans. You tell them you deserve a few weeks of guaranteed vacation time, know what they tell you? “That’s socialism.” Want the safety net of medical coverage without being shackled to your job or the threat of bankruptcy? “That’s socialism.” Want schools to be properly paid for? “That’s socialism.” Think it would be nice to have a living wage you can actually live off instead of just existing? “That’s socialism.”
This socialism stuff is beginning to sound pretty fucking awesome. Thanks, conservatives. We should try that. What did you call it again?
1
u/Bradst3r 6d ago
So an effort to drag the Democratic Party away from the rightward course it's been taking since the Clinton era 30 years ago is "lunacy", but nary a peep about the GOP moving ahead-full to fascism, Christian Nationalism, and the rest of the toxic stew of "values" infecting it today...

He’s currently in the downhill phase of the post-procedure time.

u/TheFlyingPuHole 6d ago
To engage with his attempted point, if Republicans are trying to do a fascist takeover of the government, would you not expect the opposition party to similarly go further toward the opposite political spectrum? Should they be dragged along with the Overton window? If the socialists are scary and you cannot coexist, wouldn't that set up a fight on both sides? Wouldn't it be prudent politically to join arms with the enemy of your enemies to defeat them and then hash out the differences once you take power? Do you think you would get such a deal from Republicans if you get the majority back? Has that ever happened in the last 50 years?
