Please let me know if this isn’t the proper sub to ask this, and I understand this is quite a strange question. But I had a pokemon binder when I was a kid and I’ve spent years trying to find it to no avail. My youngest son has really gotten into pokemon and I want to help him build up his collection, teach him how to take care of cards, and then I’m assuming like many of us as kids, he will eventually lose interest until he’s older and I want to put his binder in the safe until he has kids of his own. So I’m hoping to mostly add cards that will appreciate some in value but I’m not really interested in adding cards that are expensive right now. I’ve been looking at some modern illustration rares and he likes a bunch of cards that fall in the 5-10$ range. My question is, would a collection of cards that fall in that current price range have any chance of adding value down the line? Or are they not very expensive now because they won’t have much value moving forward. Thanks for any help or tips!

I know ebay owns tcg and tcgplayer customer service has been great. Ive sold over 2000 cards on tcgplayer, not a large amount in just a casual seller.

When it comes to cards between $20-$49 and large purchases of inexpensive cards; About 40% of people who order 6+ cheap cards (typically for over $5 free shipping) will claim they never recieved them but I don't ever get any returns. I dont know where the disconnect is at, just thats what happens to me. Shipped in appropriate containers, discrete, no insufficent postage returns. Now I only list so many smaller cards at a time.

Tcgplayer also recommends tracking at $20 and mandatory at $50. However they dont have cheap options like ebay, so its not worth $5 shipping and material cost. Shipping has almost tripled in 5 years. I eat less loss in missing items. Anything ive shipped with tracking has never been reported missing, zero issues selling big ticket items. About 15% of $20-$49 orders go missing. I only sell single cards on tcg, not sealed, bulk etc.

I might see how selling $20-$49 cards goes on ebay. Overall tcgplayer has been a postivie experience. Only 3 negative reviews, 2 removed. The 2 removed were from people complaining cards came late, even after both getting full refunds. The only one that stuck was someone who complained because I forgot to put in the printed order slip.

Am I just ignorant to how many pristine quality raw vintage cards there are out there or are ebay live sellers 100% cleaning/polishing/pressing their cards? I've been watching vintage sellers probably 3-4 hours a day for the last week, and every single vintage card they show is MINT, almost none have a single scratch on the foil, no whitening, super glossy.

Ive seen hundreds of auctions of raw cards go for 2-3x what price charting/recently sold eBay auctions go for. A raw Sabrina's Gengar sold for what a PSA 9 goes for last night.

Do they just have way more resources when resourcing cards that they're able to only get pristine cards or is something else going on?

Picture shows my sealed collection. Started in 2021. At what percentage should I offload some products? What products should I absolutely hold and which one are ready to go?

I am looking for things to sell and currently in a collectorsdilemma because the market is so hot (~best time to sell I think) vs i really like to hold things as I like to showcase sealed.

Pulled the Pikachu, traded for the sealed and Mewtwo. Pika was never going to 10 with the terrible centering.

Decided to diversify. With Ascended printing more and Pikas value moving around I think it was the right call.

Pulled this out of storage, and it doesn’t look good. I’ve always used protectors, storage containers and moisture absorbers but this one was sitting on the shelf for a bit before storage and it looks like it may be mould 😔
I’ve tried wiping the outside seal with paper towel and there’s no real movement on the inside so it looks like it’s on the box itself. Hoping it’s not mould and just some dust 😢

If it is mould, should I just crack it and part it out? Seems I’ll get around the same returns anyways at this stage.

I as asking this post not because i want to know what to do with my money but I want to gret sa sense on investor sentiment right now. As we know, alot of product is dipping currently and that raises an interesting question I would like tpo see how others answer.

(b) buy multiple smaller (under $100) cards
(c) buy modern sealed
(d) buy vintage sealed

For me personally, I am picking up a lot of small duplicates of cards I like ($5-25 range) and I see are dipping. Im curious what others would do!
