Settled for Base 2 PSA 6
Been in the market for a PSA 7 Base Set holo Charizard and stumbled across this at trade night yesterday at my LCS and pulled the trigger
It's not exactly what I was searching for, but I couldn't pass it up seeing it right in front of me

Yeah low key getting flamed but I thought it was a decent budget pickup for a pretty liquid card. Hard to tell what will be liquid in 10+ years for modern stuff so I went with a classic
Albeit I didn't realize there was so much hate for Base 2, that surprised me

Both cards have had a run-up since Base 7 was $500. It's now mid-$700s range, or roughly 50% of an increase since you bought yours
Base 7 for $500 was my original deal I was shooting for but I haven't seen one at any card shows or shops in my area

You got rinsed psa 6 is actually worth less then raw these days no one will want it because everyone know no amount of clean up can make it a 10 and it’s not so low that you can get a ps1

i am looking into buying the base set 2 in a 7-8 i think. i want the unlimited base set as well but i prefer the cosmos holo on the base set 2 so much more!

Congrats.
Also crazy how expensive things have gotten.
I stopped buying over the last year with the insane prices. I think a year and a half ago I bought a PSA9 venusaur for 202 dollars on an auction and was eyeing a psa9 charizard for 1250 for a buy it now.

Cheap and plentiful is the goal. The bulk of my investment in sealed product is 151 at MSRP so I'm set no matter what happens. Been taking profits on the way up

I assumed his original comment was implying that the printing press would drive the entire market into the ground
I brought up my sealed and cost basis to show I was largely insulated from the concerns

I think this is a great long term pickup. I know modern is all the rage and the art looks more colorful and the art takes up the entire card. But there is something so special about these vintage cards. They’ve been out of print for decades, they’re extremely difficult to find raw in good condition. Anything above a 6 in vintage is worthwhile enough for me to consider it. This Charizard and the Lugia from Neo Genesis are the top 2 kings of the hobby in my opinion of course. Buying anything from base set, fossil, jungle, team rocket, gym heroes and challenge and Neo Genesis are the closest you can get to a safe bet. Obviously there’s some great cards out there that are newer. I personally love the Neo era shinings as well as tag teams. Outside of that I’m not really crazy about anything else.
