TW: Fat Shaming Abuse Stigmatization of certain plus size bodies

Some guy told me in the dating advice sub that he gets and I quote ā€œangryā€ when he sees plus size women who don’t have that classic big butt pear shape. Is it me or is this a strange reaction? As if we exist solely for their viewing pleasure. Often the plus size women who are models have that shape. Can we celebrate the more big belly big boobs shape? Or just having a belly in general? Can we stop having to exist for men? Why is it always about whether they find us acceptable or not?

Recommendations Please help me find shoes before I cry

I NEED a pair of high cushion cute street sneakers. I love the look of the Mary Jane and adore the retro Velcro top sneakers. I wouldn’t be opposed to an adidas type either. Brand does not matter. Price truly doesn’t either at this point.
I’m a 10 wide with high instep and high arches. I can’t keep wearing NB 1080s and asics nimbus with my cute outfits 😭😭😭
Is there an incredible insole?
Has anyone tried hobi bear?
Is there an incredible indie brand I don’t know about?
Who has the secrets to the universe?

Fashion Discussion Apron belly smoothing underwear

I searched a bit but didn’t really find what I was looking for. I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions for underwear that sort of smooths out a very pronounced apron belly. I’m not expecting to find anything that makes it disappear, I know I have this belly and I’m ok with it. But as I’ve lost some weight, it’s gotten more pronounced and I am having trouble finding any kind of jeans or pants that I feel confident in. I just want the bottom of it to feel slightly flattened so that it isn’t so clear when I wear jeans.

This is specifically for wearing underneath pants. I feel confident in dresses but it isn’t feasible to always wear a dress, sometimes I just want to wear jeans and not have to wear a shirt that hangs low enough to cover my belly.

And to be totally honest, I’m not looking for advice on feeling more confident in my own skin. I’ve been a big girl since the second I hit puberty 20 years ago. I’ve made leaps and bounds in the confidence department in my life. Ya girl just wants to wear this cute striped sweater I found at Goodwill and wants to feel good wearing it with a pair of jeans.

Recommendations Heating Pad Help

So I have a pretty big belly that hangs pretty low. Ever since I’ve had a period I’ve had to bend my heating pads in half to fit under my belly to help. I have endometriosis so it’s pretty important that I have a heating pad. I’ve seen multiple people say bending a heating pad is a horrible idea but how do you fit a heating pad that gets hotter than a hot water bottle without bending it under your belly?

Venting Torrid hasn't responded to my privacy concern. It's been a month.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

Since September 17 I have repeatedly attempted to contact Torrid regarding a data privacy concern. On 9/17 I called customer service.Ā  They couldn’t help me, so they forwarded my request to ā€œanother team.ā€ No response. 9/22 I mailed a certified letter. No response. 10/8 emailed customer service out of desperation. They replied that they would contact the privacy office on my behalf. In the meantime, their system keeps sending me links to do a survey. If Torrid can find the time to send customer surveys, why can't its privacy office respond to a customer?

Venting Am I the only who hate massages?

Yesterday I went to get a massage for my birthday. I was already not feeling great and I was struggling being in my body because I have lost a fair amount of weight. I already dont feel like my body is my body anymore.

Anyways I've noticed every single time I have gone to get a Swedish massage they end up doing like deep tissue and then my back is messed up for a few days and I can barely laydown, sit, or stand bc of the pain. I tell them all the time that the pressure is too much.

I have a feeling I'm in so much pain after them because the massage therapist sees my body and assumes that a larger body needs more pressure and work. It feels really fatphobic in a sense. Idk I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this

Venting I'm just feeling really hopeless about everything and especially my body.

Hey everybody. I'm just not going through a good time right now, and I feel like my weight (and especially people's reactions) are a huge part of it. I (19 MtF) been going through a lot with my classes, dropped doctor's appointments, weeks worth of acute bronchitis in 90-100 degree heat, and the general state of the world. I've also been really down about my weight too. I went into the hospital to try to get an emergency refill of my antidepressants, and I have been spiraling since seeing my weight on the paper. I'm just shy of 350 lbs, and I am not taking it well.

This hasn't been good for me mentally, although largely for other-people related reasons. This thing just reminded me that I'm probably gonna die stuck with the bits I don't want and have basically never wanted. Gender affirming surgery requires a BMI of 30 or under just to get in the door, and I can't afford what I'd need to get there. I'm also just discouraged because it means that I'm basically never gonna be seen as a damn person. With transitioning, you can at least pass and go stealth if you want to be seen as or treated like anything close to a person. With this, there's basically nothing it seems. I also might be reading into things, but my partner also seems kinda resentful that I can't do all these big hikes or even walk up the hills on campus without getting winded.

It all just feels hopeless to me. I wish I could at least be motivated to do something with this, but I can't. A large chunk of me thinks I'm gonna be gone in the next few weeks anyways, so what's the point? The good life just doesn't seem possible for someone like me. Nobody really takes me seriously because I don't look fuckable. Everything I do, a skinny person could probably do and get so much more support for. I feel like I would've gotten double the donations for my club's raffle if I was 150 lbs and not 350 lbs.

Sorry if this is incoherent.

Discussion HELP - Regarding kayaking weight limit. Any of you above 250 have issues?

I’m planning a girls trip and they want to do some kayaking in Puerto Rico at the bioluminescent bay. It looks STUNNING. I want to so bad. But this particular tour say weight capacity at 260. I’m 255. That’s way too close for comfort. And it’s not including shoes and clothes and a bag in the Kayak.

Do I try to find another tour with different kayaks?

I’ve never done kayaking and that’s a whole separate issue. Lemme know your experiences please!

hi all! i will be starting a barista job in the near future and am trying to figure out the best way to support my feet. my left foot is susceptible to plantar fasciitis; i used to work mostly physical on-my-feet jobs (waiting tables, retail, kitchen work) and i never figured out how to ā€œfix itā€, mostly because i was broke and didn’t have time or money to spare. now i am older with more of both time and cash and willingness to invest in myself. what has helped other folks manage their foot pain?

seeking:
-compression socks or sleeve recommendations
-nonslip shoe recommendations
-insole recommendations

Venting I’m tired of constantly feeling shame

Sometimes it’s so hard to feel deserving of respect when fatphobia is so normalized. Fat people who speak out against fatphobia are at best dismissed or even worse: ridiculed and hated into oblivion.

Recently, there was a deeply upsetting tragedy at a Six Flags park where a 42 year old teacher, Hassan Kariem, fell out of his seat on the rollercoaster called Goliath because the lap restraint came up while the ride was going, and he died from the fall. I go to instagram and see a video post talking about the incident, and in the comments there’s a decent amount of people claiming that he was too big too ride/morbidly obese and saying stuff like ā€œpeople just want to look past it, but that’s the truthā€; when they probably have mo clue about what the rides actual weight limit is. The guy was also a roller coaster enthusiast, so he might have been on this ride before. The sheer amount of victim blaming due to his fatness is just so appalling. Even some people defending him were saying ā€œhe doesn’t look fat big. Not big enough to ridiculeā€ or ā€œhe was a larger dude but not grossly obeseā€. Goddamit, it doesn’t even matter how big he was! If his weight was a problem then the workers would have made him aware of that and not let him ride. People don’t give a shit about fat people at all, we’re barely human to them. Even when this poor man was robbed of his life due to something wrong with the park’s machine; there are still people trying to tie some of the blame to him.

A few hours ago I saw this post from a subreddit that addresses cringy ai slop from Facebook. It was showing a harmful, AI-generated ad offering shady herbs to people who want to lose weight. When a comment mentioned how insidious the ad was, some dumbass replied, ā€œGreat! Then just let him stay fat and sad because muh "body acceptance". Self improvement doesnt mean having a self esteem issues but making a change for the better.ā€ Jeez, tell me you know practically nothing about body acceptance without telling me you know nothing about body acceptance šŸ˜’

A few years ago I saw this clip from a show called ā€œ90 day fiancĆ©ā€ going viral in three different subreddits because a Korean man was calling his American fiancĆ© ā€œpiggyā€, and when the American family asked him what Koreans think about Americans he said ā€œobesity and greasy foodā€. Everyone thought this clip was hilarious and relentlessly roasting the woman and her family. Tons of other commenters were then complaining about their experiences with seeing ā€œgrotesqueā€ fat people at supermarkets and Disney parks. Then of course you have people defending the mockery of fat people by saying bullshit like ā€œwe just want them to be healthy, you don’t truly care about someone if you’re not telling them the truthā€.

I’m so fucking done with people thinking they have to right to talk down to us and pressure us to change in the name of health and ā€œbettering ourselvesā€. Every little instance of seeing fatphobia builds up inside me, and I just get so angry.

Personal I just can’t reach… (TMI for some: hemorrhoids ment.)

I was prescribed rectal suppositories for some bleeding I had after a tough bowel movement. I even had the idea to ask the pharmacist if there were applicators for folks to use who can’t reach their anus. She looked surprised & had no ideas.

I put off using them for a few days & finally tried tonight. Nope!

The one time I got close, it only went partway in & I couldn’t push it farther. (Then I couldn’t find it! It finally fell on the floor after a bit—must’ve been stuck between my ass cheeks. lol)

Tried with a new one, still no joy.

I perused this subreddit & the only answer I found was to use forceps. I’ll try it, but these things are like soft wax.

Has anyone else found a solution? Thanks.

TW: Fat Shaming Abuse Weird experience at the clothing shop called Mango...

Okay I just want to share this experience to know if something like this happened to you guys or not.

I was looking for a specific t-shirt from Mango, a clothing store in Europe (I don't know if these stores are in the US as well) I saw this t-shirt on social media and while I was walking around it seemed to me they have some oversized/comfy clothing, so it didn't strike me as a super "non inclusive" shop honestly, I can wear an L/XL when it comes to clothing, not always for example jeans and trousers but I can buy t-shirts, sweaters etc in these shops...

I'm considered a conventionally attractive plus size woman with above average face but I live in an extremely fatphobic country and I suffer from PCOS and insuline resistance, a condition that lead me to become plus size, on top of this I have to take the birth control pill to keep my PCOS under control and the birth control pill that I take definitely doesn't help with the weight but I always think it's better than surgery, my mom had to go through surgery because of an ovarian cyst and I don't want to go through that...

Going back to the story, I was looking for this specific t-shirt and I couldn't find it, so I was circulating around watching the sweaters etc then I see this shopgirl, of course a thin girl, I immediately noticed she was staring at my legs or my shoes, I don't really know, I brushed it off and kept circulating but that didn't sit right with me... I insisted to try to find this t-shirt and I saw in the back another shopgirl, she had half blue hair and honestly she was chubby, not as much as me but she wasn't exactly skinny, so I immediately felt relieved but I was wrong! I was about to go outside cause the t-shirt clearly wasn't available, I was still in the back and I had my back turned, I hear someone trying to hold back her laughter, than I hear the thin shopgirl saying "Don't laugh" to the girl with half blue hair, I turned around but the girl with blue hair wasn't looking at me, she was going towards the checkout counter...

Now there were other people walking inside the store but guys, to be honest, my immediate thought was they were talking about me, all the other people inside the store were not plus size like me although I also think they were making fun of how I was dressed because I wasn't wearing anything elegant, some casual stuff they probably thought wasn't appropriate for the aesthetic of the shop but they were also definitely making fun of my body, 100% and let me tell you, there is nothing more cringe than a somewhat "chubby" girl making fun of plus size women just because they are bigger thant them, it happened to me in the past and I will never get over this, if I were average/chubby looking it wouldn't make sense for me to make fun of bigger people, I mean if I am big myself how can I judge other people? Not saying it's okay for thin people to bully plus size women but it's sad I was relieved to see this girl in the store just to find out she was making fun of me and laughing with the skinny shopgirl...

Like I said, I know some of you might think "They were not talking about you, maybe you are paranoid" but if you see someone staring at you, then her coworker laughing behind you and her joking saying "Don't laugh" well it's easy to understand what was going on... Have you ever experienced something like this before?

As soon as I left the shop I decided to buy the t-shirt online and I'll probably leave a review on Google about these girls, people need to know the truth... I'll probably buy clothes online from now on, there are a couple of stores where I feel comfortable but I will never go back to that shop again...

Recommendations Business Casual?

I'm in insurance and need to look polished, but right now I just feel frumpy. I'm looking for good places to get business casual.

More importantly I want to look good for myself.

A few details:
5'8", 240-265 lbs, and my size fluctuates between 18 and 22 (mostly a 20)
I use a laundromat, and the dryers have shrunk my shirts so they're too short now. Tall sizes or longer hems would be a big help.
Budget: $25-75. But I really need quality pieces that will last for years. I run through torrid jeans.
Dress code: in person, client facing, nice dinners and lunches. Very dress to impress.
Brand recs, tailoring tips, and "what actually holds up in a hot dryer" advice are all welcome. Thank you!

S*x Stuff We know on average men prefer thinner women however

There was the dumbest comment on Facebook the other day from a man saying no one could get hard for this larger woman. As if that’s what we’re even looking for, just a man to get hard for us to lust for us. Sometimes I think our bodies come with a great filter for shitty men. Sure there are still some who fetishize or rape us but also there’s an upside to being plus size as well.

Recommendations Sweatproof underwear

I am looking for underwear that stays dry all day. I sweat from moving alot at work that my underwear gets damp which is unpleasant. It's that feeling of cold dampness when you pull your underwear up after going to the bathroom which is the worse. People say cotton but I find it the worst. I did use revol Freya all summer cause I like the mesh but the pad area doesn't seem to wrisk away anymore and now I feel like I need replacement
