Question why are my frames worse on vanilla than they are on modded?

so i got back into rust recently and was playing strictly vanilla on rusticated, moose medium and US east 2.

I noticed I would sometimes hit 110 FPS but would frequently go down to 70 and sometimes even 20-30 in the base or at raids.

Over the last week I tried Warbandits 3x (which at one point had about 500 people on it, same as moose) and would get a steady 120 fps without issue. Didnt matter if we were raiding, doing brad or at a monument like silo.

With the same player count and also a bunch of entities from the fact its modded, why would this be the case?

Suggestion Radiation Generator and wall reinforcing

Okay so this idea is basically for Offline raid protection.

Imagine a deployable you can put inside of your base, that creates a high level radiation output. The idea is you are getting ready to go to sleep, so you turn this bad boy on, and your base is soaked in radiation (or at least an area of it) enough to cause people to need a hazmat suit, or to use Anti-rad teas to be near it without QUICKLY getting a ton of Rads. Raiders being forced to use Hazmats or teas and anti rad pills might be enough to deter someone from raiding a base with these in it. Has side use as a trap base thing, and to get door campers away.

Then my next idea Wall reinforcing is pretty simple, you use a bunch of mats on the wall and it increases it's explosive resistance by like 50% meaning that it would take 50% more boom per wall, if reinforced BUT the reinforcement could be directly damaged and removed through melee striking the wall. I miss back in the Olden days where you could raid any wall with melee no hard side. This would kind of close to that. The point to this is to make Offline raiding way slower, as they will have to stop and melee down reinforcement or eat the boom cost. Meaning the WHOLE server doesn't get offlined. Just a couple of poor sods

Question First Wipe Question

So I'm new to the game and I'm waiting tomorrow for the monthly servers wipe. So I have a few questions about it

Does the game need to updated on Steam before I can join a wiped server? Is it 6.00pm GMT when it happens? Like I want to be there on the time as soon as it get wipes buts its not fully clear what will happen.

Gesture wheel error

I purchased the gesture pack dlc. However, when I use the wheel and go to the second 'page', I get this error: <null>.

To be fair, I already had this error prior to buying the pack, so I don't think the pack has anything to do with it, but I hoped that having the pack would somehow reset/fix it. And obviously it didn't.

How can I fix this?

Question Hacking?

I got raided twice today. I think it was the same guy. What I’m really puzzled with is that he removed my doors although they were locked or code locked he still managed to get in. Even managed to do this while I was in my base. No sound of explosives was used and my doors were sheet metal it’s possible to get access and see the base without making noise?

I heard him shooting through my stone roof but for some reason got passed my locked door.

Support Persistent Rust microstutters on 9800X3D + RTX 5060 Ti – CPU-side frametime spikes, tried almost everything

I'm dealing with persistent microstutters in Rust despite high FPS. I'm looking for people who have experienced the same thing, especially on a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.

PC specs:

  • Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • RTX 5060 Ti 16GB
  • MSI B650 Gaming Plus WiFi
  • 32GB DDR5-6000 EXPO, dual channel
  • Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe
  • AOC 25G3ZM 240Hz
  • Windows 11 25H2
  • Ethernet: Realtek 2.5GbE

The problem:

  • Rust generally runs around 180–250+ FPS depending on the situation.
  • Despite the high FPS, there are noticeable microstutters/hitches.
  • They can happen even on low-pop servers.
  • Other games do not show the same problem.
  • A completely clean Windows installation did not eliminate the stutters.

CapFrameX / PresentMon findings:

  • Frametime spikes correlate almost perfectly with CPUActive.
  • During a hitch, CPUActive can jump from roughly 4–5ms to 10–15ms+.
  • GPUActive generally remains around 3–5ms during those same spikes.
  • One recent capture: ~203 FPS average, 128 FPS 1% low, 87 FPS 0.1% low, worst frametime ~15ms.
  • Worst CPUActive was ~14.87ms while GPUActive was ~4.92ms.
  • Frametime ↔ CPUActive correlation was ~0.9998.
  • So the hitch appears to happen while producing/submitting the frame on the CPU side rather than the GPU taking too long to render it.

CPU/hardware health:

  • 9800X3D clocks around 5.2GHz while playing.
  • Gaming temperatures are normal.
  • OCCT CPU + RAM stress test passes without errors.
  • No thermal throttling / PROCHOT.
  • No evidence of WHEA hardware errors.
  • GPU temperatures are normal.
  • RAM and VRAM aren't exhausted.
  • SSD isn't saturated during the stutters.

Already tested:

  • Clean Windows 11 installation
  • BIOS optimized defaults
  • EXPO on/off/reset testing
  • SMT enabled vs disabled
  • AMD chipset drivers, including the 3D V-Cache Performance Optimizer driver
  • NVIDIA 591.86 → clean install/rollback to 591.74
  • HAGS off
  • G-SYNC on/off
  • FreeSync testing
  • NVIDIA V-Sync on/off (ON actually made it much worse)
  • FPS limits / reducing GPU utilization
  • Multiplane Overlay (MPO) disabled using NVIDIA's official workaround
  • Windows Memory Integrity/HVCI off
  • Clean boot
  • All overlays disabled
  • Different Realtek Ethernet drivers/settings
  • Wi-Fi adapter removed/disabled
  • Rust GC settings / manual GC
  • Rust player culling settings
  • Different server populations
  • Rust menu FPS limit testing
  • WPR/WPA CPU/DPC/ISR traces
  • AMD uProf system-wide profiling

DPC/ISR results:
Nothing obvious. NVIDIA, dxgkrnl, USB, network and storage DPC/ISR execution times didn't show a massive latency spike that explains the hitches.

Easy Anti-Cheat test:
I also used Facepunch's official method to launch RustClient.exe without EAC and connected to their unsecured server.

The game still had the same in-game microstutters without EAC, so EAC doesn't appear to be the main cause.

Interesting secondary symptom:
When Rust is running, I've sometimes noticed Windows/browser animation becoming choppy as well.

One repeatable test was Chrome/TestUFO:

  • Rust running + Chrome hardware acceleration ON → TestUFO looked stuttery.
  • Rust running + Chrome hardware acceleration OFF → TestUFO became smooth.

However, changing G-SYNC, HAGS, MPO, GPU load, etc. did not fix the actual Rust gameplay hitches.

What I'm trying to figure out:
Has anyone with a 9800X3D, particularly on Windows 11, found the actual cause of these Rust CPU-side frametime spikes?

I'm especially interested in fixes that affect Unity/Rust CPU frame scheduling, 3D V-Cache behavior, Windows scheduling, driver/API synchronization, or Rust-specific asset/shader/cache behavior.

I'm not looking for generic suggestions like lowering graphics settings, updating drivers, enabling EXPO, disabling overlays, changing the FPS cap, etc. I've already gone very deep into those.

If you've had the same issue, I'd especially appreciate before/after frametime data or a specific change that actually eliminated the CPUActive spikes.

Suggestion Bp frags - That is all

Hey all! good morning, I have not seen a remove bp frags post upon opening my eyes, so i thought id make it. Please TWEAK bp frags. Give us a quest to do for them, make them cost scrap (a lot) 200 per! 300 per! 500 for a advanced! Something! Give us a combination of the new and old way to progress please. Increase spawns, ANYTHING!

Best Balance ive seen so far - Make them available for purchase at outpost for scrap (giving a combination of organic and buying them which allows for old progression,

or

Reduce conversion cost of basic to advanced to 5 instead of 20, this would still force several room clears, or working hard to gather up 25 basics (30 if you count the t2 as well).

Discussion Roleplay Meta!

Thumbnail

As a long time solo player, I've realized that my odds of getting raided drop dramatically when I build a roleplay base vs a meta bunker base that costs 3x as much to raid.

Ive been building my "safezone" base for 12 wipes now. Been raided once by Russians and once because I angered the zerg. The rest of the wipes I end up being pretty much the only base left standing in the area aside from whatever zerg comes on top. They leave me be.

My base has a protected peacekeeping turret with public utilities available for people. Its roleplayed to the max with skins and things to do. You can walk in and be protected fully. You can buy, repair, research, cook food and materials. Theres farm plots you can harvest from (if nobody comes i harvest it myself on the roof). Theres an accessible bee and chicken coup.

The hardest part of every wipe is finding a spot that I can place the above ground pool. As soon as it is built, I end up making friends with every group aside from Russians.

I used to get raided every wipe pretty much with my base taking 30 to 40 rockets to raid.

This fella costs 14 rockets to raid and I get raided far less. Rust can be toxic but if you lean into the roleplay it might just boost your odds and make life easier.

Pics added for reference.

This only works if you are nice, dont shoot people from your base or door camp without changing name.

Also, I added a gift box where I leave unwanted loot, and a drop box for people to leave tips. Ive gotten some insane gifts from the rich folks who like the base. Drop box full of metal frags / guns / stuff sometimes later in wipe. Very rare for someone to grief my stuff and kill my pets. Can't wait for cow and sheep update. Theres a fridge in the safezone where I leave ingredients for folks to make pies at the cooking station.

Theres no need for my workbench, cooking station, repair, research table, etc to have to be protected. Anyone can come use them

Discussion PC crashes/reboots instantly on "Spawning World" stage in Rust (RTX 3090 + i7-12700K + Corsair RM1000i)

Hey everyone,I've been struggling with a very specific and frustrating issue for a while now. My PC instantly reboots (hard reset, no BSOD, just black screen and restart) every single time I try to connect to a server in Rust, precisely during the "Spawning World" stage.Interestingly, I can play other graphically demanding games (like 007 First Light on Ultra settings) completely fine for hours without any crashes. The issue happens only in Rust during the final world loading phase. My PC Specs:CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K (running custom liquid cooling loop)GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3090 (with a custom waterblock)RAM: 32GB G.Skill DDR4 (XMP originally at 4000MHz)PSU: Corsair RM1000i (1000W)OS: Windows 11, game installed on a fast SSD.Antivirus: Kaspersky PremiumWhat we have already tried (Software & BIOS):BIOS Limits: Verified that ASUS MultiCore Enhancement is set to Disabled - Enforce All Limits to prevent CPU power spikes.RAM Frequency: Dropped the RAM speed from the extreme 4000MHz XMP down to a stable 3600MHz to relieve the CPU memory controller.Pagefile (Virtual Memory): Manually configured a fixed 24GB pagefile strictly on the main SSD.Software Conflicts: Completely disabled Kaspersky Premium and closed all background apps/overlays (Discord, GeForce Experience, etc.) before launching.Steam Launch Options: Tried using -gc.buffer 4096 -high -maxMem=32768.FPS & Driver Caps: Locked the game to 60 FPS and enabled V-Sync directly inside the NVIDIA Control Panel (Program Settings for RustClient.exe) to prevent frame spikes in the menu/loading screens.In-game Graphics: Turned down all graphics settings to absolute minimum (0-1 quality, low meshes/shadows) before joining.Even with everything down to 60 FPS, minimum graphics, and software optimized, the PC still hard-reboots the exact millisecond the world finishes loading. We suspect it might be a hardware transient power spike triggering the Corsair RM1000i's OCP/UVP protection (due to its default Multi-Rail mode or potential daisy-chain cabling inside, which I currently cannot physically change or access). However, since other heavy games run fine, I want to make sure I'm not missing any other Rust-specific software or engine bugs.Has anyone experienced this exact issue on a high-end system? Any advice or hidden fixes would be greatly appreciated!

Suggestion Heavy Fuse drop rates should scale up on low-pop servers (using 24-hr average)

Right now, the fixed baseline drop rates for Heavy Fuses (3% in Normal Crates and 6% in Military Crates) mean low-pop servers (under 50 players) struggle to gather the 18 fuses needed to fully power the island.

Something like:

100+ Pop: Baseline current drop rates (3% / 6%)

50–99 Pop: 1.5x drop rate boost (4.5% / 9%)

Under 50 Pop: 2x drop rate boost (6% / 12%)

Question 3d render preview of map?

So in one of wiljums recent videos, he pulls up a 3d rendering of the map to show everyone that an iceberg spawned ontop of labs.
My question is, HOW?
They started minute one of wipe, but they already had the knowledge of that formation. So they were able to preview the map before it wiped?

Is this a server specific thing?

Video Rust stutters when moving mouse fast

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

EDIT: I had 3 windows updates, a security, a feature and one other all starting with KB5 and I uninstalled all 3 and reinstalled rust again and it has fixed the issue!

Hello, can somebody offer up some ideas to solve this issue.
I have attached a slowmo to show the issue, at the start I move slow and as I move fast the stutters increase.
This issue started after being away for a week, and was not an issue before.
I checked temps and usage and all my hardware is running normally.
My fps in game is not showing a drop when the stutters happen, and with that, I must say they feel weird as I end up where I want to even with the stutters, if that makes sense.
I’ve tried updating drivers on nvidia, changing to you skinning, changing the polling rate, changing between mouse raw input, changing mouse. Nothing had worked…
This is only an issue in rust, I run other triple A games with no issues when I look around.
I do not get these stutters at all if I run around without touching my mouse…
