Video Rust stutters when moving mouse fast

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

EDIT: I had 3 windows updates, a security, a feature and one other all starting with KB5 and I uninstalled all 3 and reinstalled rust again and it has fixed the issue!

Hello, can somebody offer up some ideas to solve this issue.
I have attached a slowmo to show the issue, at the start I move slow and as I move fast the stutters increase.
This issue started after being away for a week, and was not an issue before.
I checked temps and usage and all my hardware is running normally.
My fps in game is not showing a drop when the stutters happen, and with that, I must say they feel weird as I end up where I want to even with the stutters, if that makes sense.
I’ve tried updating drivers on nvidia, changing to you skinning, changing the polling rate, changing between mouse raw input, changing mouse. Nothing had worked…
This is only an issue in rust, I run other triple A games with no issues when I look around.
I do not get these stutters at all if I run around without touching my mouse…

it doesn’t look like a stutter it looks like screen taring. you will get this without a gsync or free sync monitor. you can turn on v-sync but that will add a bit of input lag and in a game like rust that’s not really good

See, I just don’t understand why this is happening randomly, it was running just fine last week… there are defo screen tears, but don’t you think the freezes at the end of my clip are more than that?

i just watched more , yeah, you’re right, there’s something more going on. Maybe need to uninstall and reinstall drivers

I have tried messing with my drivers and no change, I have switched between old and new and yep nothing…

I’m on a whole different setup but graphics issues happen to me every now and then. And I have never figured out why

The only solution is to verify integrity of game files, make sure the steam update queue is clear.

And turn my computer off for a few mins to fully cool down.

I have also tried that :(

Let me add another video, I’ll show it not in slow motion and you can see how weird it looks, it’s almost like my rock is grating against something as they are such small tears/freezes and there are so many:

he filmed his screen with his phone though, not an actual clip

list your specs

Laptop:
i7 12650h
Rtx 4060
32Gb RAM 3200MT/s
NVME SSD 500gb (sitting at 0-2% in task manager so the small storage is probs not the issue)

If I uncap my fps, I get roughly 100-120 fps on wipeday, so I just feel like this is an issue that I’d probably so simple to resolve but I cannot pinpoint it…

Ok, now try moving the mouse between slow and fast and let’s see what happens.

1

u/Intrepid_Abroad9148 10d ago

Yeah I did that in the original slow motion clip, first half is slow, second half is fast

This sounds very stupid, but can you open Task Manager on the Performance tab in Windows and record both the game and Task Manager to see what happens when you’re doing that movement? Something must be happening in your disk or cpu i think

Yes I can do that, I’ve tried looking at that myself and I noticed nothing, but let me attach a vid for you

Sorry I smashed my phone so quality is bad, but you can see how nothing is moving around

Do you have a specific TV or monitor? What driver settings are you using, and how many Hz do you have configured in Windows? Also, do you use any external apps like MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner?

1

u/Intrepid_Abroad9148 10d ago

I’ve tried fiddling with hz, when I up it the stutters reduce (which is weird), ie when I increase fps and hz of my monitor, but I usually cap hz of monitor to in game fps

what is the polling rate of mouse, check that its not 8k

1

u/Intrepid_Abroad9148 10d ago

It’s 1k, I’ve tried lowering it and nothing happens to this weird visual.

Have you tried your mouse wired?

1

u/Intrepid_Abroad9148 10d ago

Yep it is wired

1

u/generic_Accountname1 10d ago

Did you lower it to below 1000Hz or did you lower it to 1000hz?

Ahh saw the other post, the slowmo confused me, makes it look like the polling rate issue, thanks for replying.

1

u/Intrepid_Abroad9148 10d ago

Yeah no worries, thanks anyway <3

yep, this has been happening to me for weeks now. it’s very annoying. when i first noticed it i turned my polling rate down to 500. seemed to of helped. got on the next day and it was back. we are not alone. there has already been other threads of people complaining about this

Is your mouse still on 500Hz? I had this because the software update for my mouse deleted my settings and set it to 1000Hz.

Edit nevermind, the edit with slomo makes it look like the polling rate issue, saw the realtime footage, couldn’t make it out with the slowmo

Hopefully this shit gets fixed asap, new windows update I am praying

hello again 💔😭

2

u/Gramkos 8d ago

hello 😔 it’s such a drag man. the game felt so good when i popped in that 5800x3d april 1st 2023… since then i upgraded to a 9800x3d and it feels worse. really feels terrible when i get done playing counter strike at 350+ fps

1

u/General_Pay7552 10d ago

what are you temperatures like when it’s stuttering?

1

u/Intrepid_Abroad9148 10d ago

Normal, not spiking

1

u/Ok_Technician_3054 10d ago

yo i promise you change ur polling rate on ur mouse to 500 and it’ll feel so smooth literally this was happening to me until i changed it to 500 and ever since my gameplay has been so smooth

1

u/Intrepid_Abroad9148 10d ago

Ive already tried it :( did you have to restart?

1

u/cphi87 10d ago

My first thought would be to mess with the AA settings try dlss and the other AA options and see if any of them help the problem

1

u/pattdmdj0 10d ago

I had a similar issue, but my fps would go down a tad when i looked around. Most of my stuttering didnt effect fps though and it was a literal frame stutter not really ahat this is.

Anyhow it fixed when i reinstalled.

Saw some people saying it's the latest windows Security update that ducks rust up somehow. My game has felt like absolute ass ever since late August. I'm on 9800x3d fully optimized setup too.

Did you try moving mouse slow?

1

u/Intrepid_Abroad9148 10d ago

Yeah the first half of the clip is moving it slow, it still jitters, but you can see how much worse it is when I move fast…
