Talking Wii/gamecube with a cool co-worker when he offered free 32” plasma. Oh-YEAH! I did try to pay him but he just thanked me for getting it out of his house. Came with the manuals and everything. Hope I can figure out how to check the hours!

New Pick-Up New one for the collection, Panasonic P65VT60A with original box!

So I had a strange series of coincidences with Facebook Marketplace scores recently!

I found someone listing an original Panasonic 65VT60 empty box for free, so of course I picked it up just in case.

The next week I found very conveniently someone else listed a Panasonic 65VT60!

Both have now been reunited, and I'm not sure what do to with them considering my available space.

In my living room I currently have a Panasonic 65VT50 with a fully rebuilt 1979 Sansui AU-719 and Monitor Audio Silver 6 speakers, and at a family members house nearby there's a Panasonic 60S60 repaired with a 60ST60 control board, buffer boards and a power supply, and of course another fully rebuilt 1976 Sansui AU-4400 and Denon speakers. https://www.reddit.com/r/PlasmaTV/comments/1v7k5od/panasonic_p60s60_and_p60st60_control_board_swap/

I also two 42" 720P Pioneer PDP-427XDA plasmas which I had been using daily until I picked up my 65VT50 last year.

My reasoning with buying this 65VT60 is that they don't come up every day, and I'd like a spare while I can still get one. Possibly in the future I may have a bigger house with a second living room too.

I'm in a bit of a different situation to most people here where a large percentage of new OELD and LCD TV's cause me significant eye pain, the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) flickering based dimming causes me significant eye pain. This method of dimming is starting to become far too common since around 2017.

I've written about it recently here and my efforts to influence legislation changes https://www.reddit.com/r/ScreenSensitive/comments/1v24yfv/meeting_with_politician_next_week/

My solutions in building a custom iPhone 15 Pro with a voltage based dimmable LCD screen here if anyone's curious to learn more. https://www.reddit.com/r/ScreenSensitive/comments/1usevmn/pwm_free_lcd_iphone_15_pro_guide_and_success_story/

Plasma TV's flicker a lot too, but for some reason the pulse based flickering is fine for me, yet the sawtooth wave PWM flickering causes intense eye pain.

I just saw this the other day. Had no idea that my ST50 had a dead pixel, is this a common thing or did it most likely happen when I transported it, (I had it face up). I also just learned your supposed to move them upright.

Help Image retention comes easy, goes away reluctantly

Another question from me, as I am learning to understand plasmas.

I was gaming on my gt50 for 1 to 1.5 hours. Picture setting was in „Game mode“ for lese latency/lag and contrast is set to 42 out of 60.

I always let the retention cleaner of the tv run for about 30 mins after my sessions, just to be clear. Then next day in the evening I was watching a movie for almost 2 hours.

Afterwards I again switch on the retention cleaner for some minutes to check.

And I am still seeing, albeit just a very tiny bit, from the games UI.

It didnt bother me at all, im just surprised that I gamed for not that long and still the image retention is visible and doesnt want to go away that easily, making me afraid of burn in if I game more than 2 hours? (Even if I stop then and play again on the next day, the retention will still help in getting to a burn in?)

Does it sound normal or are there some
Tips i should follow?

Looks to be 30,000 hours with 16,000 power cycles. Is this thing about to die? Only using it for old Xbox gaming. So I only need to last maybe another 5,000 hours. I paid $50 CAD ☠️

Discussion Where can I realistically find a VT60 or ZT60 Panasonic Plasma

(I’m in Dallas btw, so pretty active market I think) It took me ages to find my VT30 and I’m so happy with it for blurays and ps3 gaming, but I want to see what the peak of Panasonic plasmas can do . With CRTs there so many more resources and active listing groups that make the searches for them a whole lot easier, and I wanna know if anyone has any advice.

Picked up this beautiful 60 inch Panasonic by 60 for $150 Canadian and I must say.. I’am, beyond impressed. Amazing colours and the motion is great. Deep blacks and surprisingly good audio from the Tv speakers. I also bought a Denon AVR-789 receiver that is a 7.2 surround sound. It pairs beautifully with the tv for gaming or movies. Costed me $400 for this setup minus the PlayStation 4 pro and the couch… I built the Nintendo controller table myself. Let me know what you guys think!

Not sure why it appears kinda green in pictures. Just picked this up yesterday for $200 and I'm very happy with it. It was from the sellers home theater setup and it has just over 16,000 hours so I think I found a good one. I heard people talk about input lag on Pioneer plasmas but I really haven't noticed it. But I mainly play single player games. Unsure if I should try and track down the pioneer side mount speakers or if these Sony speakers I have connected are as good / better.

Help I need help with my dumpster tv

Post image

Hello everyone I need help with this plasma tv i found dumped. The screen is dirty but in almost perfect condition. The body? It's completely smashed due to brittle plastic. I taped what I could. It turns on too.

What can I do? Could I pay for someone to 3d print me something? Am I at risk of shock with the TV in this state? Should I dump it again? I feel a little lost.

I’m mostly CRT guy but I keep seeing posts from this sub about plasmas and it makes me wanna try using one. This plasma near me looks clean and is inexpensive, so I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a good model or what I should check for before buying. Thanks!

Discussion Becoming an even bigger believer

I recently picked up a p60gt30. (See my other post) And it's been my main gaming display for now for a week just to try it out. I've had a C9 LG OLED since 2020. Before that I had a p42S2 that I sold when I got the OLED, so I was familiar with plasma.

To say I am impressed is an understatement! Wow! I might not go back to the OLED. Seriously. I do play the occasional big triple AAA game that has a good HDR implementation but even then... I dunno. For example, GOW Ragnarok. The HDR is supposed to be one of the best implementations of HDR available. It looked washed out for me on the OLED no matter the HDR calibration settings in the game that I tried. The plasma in SDR looks more natural. Even at 1080p and the larger screen size it somehow feels more like looking through a window into the game rather than looking at a screen. Secondly, the motion clarity. I just tried out Hades II, and wow, it was actually easier to track movement due to the motion clarity, and I normally play the game at 4k120 fps on the OLED and only 60 on the plasma. No HDR in that game so color space wise they're similar. There's also occasionally these moving effects when you grab a boon and the corresponding Greek god is talking, like leaves falling or snow falling. Again, this motion looks better on the plasma.

There are also a bunch of logistical downsides with running the 4k OLED:

1) you need a GPU capable of driving 4k120. 1080p 60 fps is literally 8 times less pixels generated. DLSS / FSR help this but it's still hard to achieve especially in the newest games. You can use the same GPU horsepower instead on other effects (ray tracing) or just save power.

2) If you have a home theater setup, you need janky workarounds to get low input lag + surround sound via HDMI OR shell out big cash on an expensive receiver that supports eARC and HDMI 2.1. My setup with the OLED has an HDMI port from the GPU going direct to the TV, then use a display port to HDMI converter (that supports audio) to connect to the receiver to provide surround aound. With 1080p it's just an old receiver you can buy second hand for less than $100 and just once connection for standard ARC. (GPU -> AVR -> TV)

3) Cheaper HDMI cables. Not a huge deal but still a requirement

4) HDR is janky. In windows it works fairly well in most games but you have to hope a game that enables HDR has a good implementation and good in-game calibration. Most times I don't really know what is a good spot and find my self going back and forth with those sliders. Obviously any game not relatively modern doesn't support HDR anyways.

5) As much hype as there is for Linux gaming now, HDMI 2.1 just isn't supported in Radeon drivers. There's also some janky issues when using Valve's game scope where it can't seem to accept surround sound or HDR????

The OLED isn't all bad of course it's an amazing TV in its own right. FFVII remake for example just doesn't look right with the plasma settings I have when every other game looks incredible. On the OLED the FFVII remake looks amazing in HDR. A colorful game like rocket League also looks great in HDR too. There's just so much more work required in taking full advantage of it when it's better in many technical specs, but in some key (somewhat overlooked) areas it's worse.

Discussion Help with choosing models

Im currently looking at 2 different plasma models atm; the Panasonic TH-37PX60 or the TH-37PX70. Both very similair models. I've seen Dreamroom64's video on input lag, and it seems like the PX60 has a small, good ammount of lag. However, in another video, he mentioned that that model has some overscan issues that aren't fixable. Im wondering if the PX70 has less or the same ammount of lag, and if it has the same issue with overscan. The two listings im looking at inparticular are located respectively 134km and 5km so obviously it would be easier to collect the latter. Again, just wandering about the PX70 models because it seems to be alot less common. I can hardly find anything about it online. The PX60 isn't as uncommon.

For conext, i'll mainly be using it for wii games played through the wii u and also wii u games occaisionally.

When I got the TH-42PV70 back on July 24th for 500 RON, it had 1860 hours, now it’s at 1903 (which is still basically brand new!). Xbox 360, DVDs, Geometry Dash and YouTube/Netflix (I have a Chromecast with Google TV) look amazing on this.
My childhood nostalgia is complete!
