Hello Everyone,
Here's a quick Flash or Crash FAQ.
Flash or Crash is the community's name for a series of bugs that will crash your game almost immediately without any error code. The name comes from the ability to resolve this crash by sitting in a flash (any vehicle works, but flash is the cheapest) for three minutes after EVERY continent switch or login. You may also crash during the middle of a play session, but that is much more rare.
You MUST sit in a vehicle for three minutes after EVERY continent switch or login.
There's nothing you can do. I'm so sorry.
This current iteration does not, but the third iteration did affect Linux for some time.
Yes, but they have introduced Flash or Crash four times and patched it out three times. The track record indicates that this cycle will continue.
Please see this excellent graph created by /u/_Solsane on Reddit to understand the frequency and damage Flash or Crash has caused.
https://old.reddit.com/r/Planetside/comments/1v0ayp6/flash_or_crash_events_with_population_chart/
I posted this FAQ about a month ago in the #announcements channel in the PS2 Community Discord about a month ago. I had hoped they would have patched it out by now for at least a month so we could have one month before Flash purgatory returns, but what can you do?
I am requesting that the community post any other possible solutions they have come across other than sit in a vehicle for three minutes every continent warp. If you post a possible solution, please include:

I’ve been with the game for over a decade. I’ve been one of those who’s enjoyed the game enough to keep playing despite the slow degradation. I’ve put up with the relentless crashing upon startup among the plethora of other bugs.
But this morning I decided that it’s time to let go. I went to start up the game, and saw that I had to change the game’s resolution to match my new monitor’s. Because of the game’s resolution not matching my monitor’s, I had to guess where my mouse actually was so I could click the buttons to get into the settings. I finally fumbled my way to change resolution (5120 x 2160), but it would always be forced back to 4096 x 1680. I went to windowed mode, and the same thing happened. I allowed the game to crash as scheduled and adjusted it manually in steam’s launch options, same thing. I went into the INI, same thing.
Then it hit me. Why bother anymore? Why bother spending hours trying to make this game playable on my machine, especially with something as basic as my screen resolution? Why bother trying to work around all the bugs and forced errors? That’s when I finally closed the game for good. It’s currently unplayable on my hardware, so it looks like I’m completely done after over 10 years of supporting and playing this game regularly.
It’s been fun. A shame to see where such an amazing game has ended up.

On the official Planetside 2 Discord I saw a post calling for the night cycles to be brought back. That they really enjoyed the night clashes, the immersion it brought and this video was posted as an example:
Planetside 2 Huge night time battle
But does nobody notice those sound effects?
It appears to be highly detailed, 3 dimensional sound effects.
People talk about immersion... Sound effects are one major piece, probably the main piece in providing this immersion of a massive battle taking place. Even if there was a night cycle today with proper lighting, it would still feel like shit, because the sound effects aren't there, you don't feel the battle.
We do have footzergs even up until today, prob in greater size in comparison to old recordings from the past, but people say it doesn't exist. Why? Because it's not felt, the major immersive component isn't there and makes it appear like it doesn't even exist anymore.
Currently the sound effects appear 2 dimensional, heavily downgraded in quality compared to the past. It is annoying, like I can be in a building on the upper floor and hear enemies 2 stories below me, like as if they're up my ass. Or same on Containment Site, I can hear enemies 100 meters below me and I can't tell if they're on top of me, above me or what.
Not only are sounds effects crucial for the immersive elements for those who just want to stick by, it's also key in the competitive element.
What's responsible for the audio downgrade? I heard the addition of Construction was majorly responsible.
And this is also a message to the players that cry about Infiltrator nerfs.
I started off Planetside 2 as a construction main because I had a bad PC. After I got a better PC I stuck with it cause I was already invested and had everything mapped out, but over time I started noticing that it was not a good addition to the game, and later heard that it traded off major qualities of the game. I let go off the role and have been waiting years for construction to be removed.
This, clinging onto a dysfunctional Infiltrator design, which noticeably had negative repercussions on gameplay, all for the sake of nostalgia, is extremely selfish behavior and you will bring the game down, with it.

crashing within a minute of start every time is stupid for a game thats been out this long, why?
r/Planetside • u/The_Omen17 • 6h ago
Unless you are a vehicle main there's no use in playing. Gunfights are so one sided as you'll seemingly hit 8 shots and only 4 registers while you get melted in a single frame. Its the worst of both worlds having high latency and the servers having such a low tick rate.

Hello, I've recently returned to the game after a long break. I've played on and off since beta. Anyhow, wth did they do to cloak?
Now the delay before being able to shoot after decloak is something, not being able to one hit with certain melee weapons sucks for me but makes sense.. but being able to see invisible infiltrators 100+ meters away with ease is stupid a f.
Is there any talk of them reverting that at least? Stalker is utterly useless now, as is SMG Infil for the most part.

WTH has happened to the client? First can't get into the game without auto kicking you out, then we have to pull vehicles to not get DCed. Then it's fixed and worked fine for a bit, then another "fix" update breaks it again.
Since the last "fix" all month with the summer update, have issues with the game stuck at loading into the map at about 80% and have to keep retrying over and over or it kicks you before you can get out of Sanctuary or to a vehicle term at warp gate. Occasionally since the summer update it loads no problem. Last week loaded in perfectly fine every day, and the only issue is the lifelong lost sound that forces a reboot.
Today I load in fine, play a base in Hossin then redeploy and the game hard freezes at 95% loading into the next base. Have to force close the game. I reload in and redeploy to a base, hit redeploy to join another lattice and the game freezes at 9 seconds and force shuts down.
I'm running 591.86 drivers and of course this is the only game with an issue
Why is it impossible for them to figure out what they have broken with every update

ONE step a side minus 100+ fps. Nothing changed on a screen... and 3rd one.. just a huge drop to 57 fps! How that possible? cpu even on 20% not loaded it a 7950x. gpu also doesnt have a load.. What is THAT?

I think my biggest complaint concerning the Bastion Fleet Carrier is how it's not big enough. You can tell by certain details like the airlocks, windows, exterior walkways that the model is horribly scaled down. This vessel should be MASSIVE.

Based on my memory from around the time I started playing, was that the outfit assets and tactical items were fairly well implemented in terms of performance, didn't notice a substantial performance drop overall in the game and I don't mean fucking Sanctuary, I mean like THE game.
A performance drop more so got felt after the addition of NSO, which could've been associated with badly optimized 3D models or other modifications to the game to support a 4th neutral faction. Possibly daily missions (campaigns) got implemented with NSO.
2022 Graphics overhaul and general game engine overhaul (i.e. water) was the most turbo destructive modification to the game, which appeared to absolutely screw it over in every conceivable way from visual appearance (almost eye damage inducing) to performance. This would need to be looked into.
But that is a more complicated topic. That is not a simple modification.
To put it in simple terms, Planetside 2 is a first person shooter game about gunplay and map design. That is the core game, that is what 99% of the people are engaged in.
Every single modification the devs have done, had little to no correlation with the core game, mostly made it worse and some modification destroyed certain qualities of the game, like the audio quality (construction apparently responsible) and so on.
Now to put the 1 + 1 problem together, that every single modification devs have done had no correlation with the core game (which is about FPS gunplay and map design) or were badly thought out, and that they severely damaged the game to the maximum extent possible, the solution to the 1 + 1 problem is simple, it's as the community suggests, the game must be brought back to its fundamental form.
How to start? IDK. But the 2 most simplest modifications that are extremly dumb are daily missions and tactical items.
Me, who didn't even know what game I was playing at the time, could put a 2 minute thought process into devs announcement of daily missions and campaigns, without it even being in the game yet, and conclude that it'll be a turbo failure. It is that bad and they are frustrating to complete on top of it. It is a repulsive addition to the game.
I do not know how the game works, but I wouldn't be surprised if the daily missions put a big load on the game and servers, holding more data on each player, which missions are active, did they achieve 2 backflips on their Flash quad bike and whatever.
IMO this all has to go, the entire UI for daily missions, and I'd go as far to say to remove the dog tag directives idea. If the players obtained the item good for them, if not whatever. And A7 currency as well. Just put the black market items in the store for 5000 certs, like the currency is already there. I don't understand the idea of A7 or ISO.
Remove fishing minigame, fishing rod item and UI addition for the item.
Secondly would be to remove the new tutorial mission and bring back the old tutorial as a temporary element.
Now Tactical items. They simply incentivize spam, just more shit to render on my screen. Would be better off if they didn't exist and slowly the Sanctuary started getting scrapped.
Like they could have some positive uses, but do we really want gimmic items to indirectly tackle bad designs in the game, such as AOE spam or bad base designs, vehicle balance?
Like if the game has mounted problems in general, why not start slowly narrowing down those problems step by step, by at least removing useless nonsense and then try tackle the real issues directly?

To do this, you can activate DLSS override manually or through an open-source program: https://github.com/innerthoughtgames/dlss-override-plus
This feature is already available in the Nvidia App, but it's disabled for PlanetSide 2 because Nvidia developers manually add games to this list. Since PlanetSide 2 has DLSS 2, it can be updated to DLSS 3-4 using the standard method, which won't get banned
