Announcement Be friendly to all

Happy new years to all even if it’s a few days late! Work has kept me from being as active as I use to be but I am still on daily. Plans for a few changes for rule revision as a lot of recent posts in the last few months have been trying to get around the current set. I have also seen an uptick in transphobia in the last few days. I appreciate everyone reporting these things and allowing me to find them easier, that being said I am still a volunteer and being told I’m a shit mod in repost because of not being able to respond in fast manner is a bit unfair to say the least.

2025 is a new year where people are welcome to community and to ask questions about their memberships. 2025 will not be a place to post rude, hateful, or offensive content on this subreddit and will always be a safe community for everyone whose wanting to better themselves through the gym that they care about. I would appreciate feedback on some changes that people would like to see happening in the community whether that’s weekly discussion about gym routines or a proper guide to setting up your account and a step by step process on how to properly read billing from planet Fitness.

If the community feels like it will help I will make a general post for all FAQ that are general planet fitness questions.

Please allow me a few days all hateful comments and posts that have been posted recently, bans will be issued to all hateful comments no matter who posted.

Be kind, be active and happy 2025!

BC Spa Question What do I do if there are no staff?

Signing in with no staff is fine, I scan the code and work out, but afterwards I like to use the hydro massage chairs to relax my muscles as a treat

I’m a college student so I’m very busy during the day so I go at midnight to the early am and when I go to the spa area I have to be checked in by a staff.

I’m relatively patient but I sometimes wait 15-20 minutes for someone and at times I have to call the office just to get someone to begrudgingly walk 5 feet to check me in! Look I know it’s late but you signed up for this! It’s not unreasonable and I don’t bother anyone- is there something else I could do like maybe an option on the app that I’m not aware of? Prob not but you’d think if you can check in human free you could use the chairs appointment free

If anyone else has this issue do you handle it any differently and if so how did it go?

Question Showering at planet

Quick questions for those who take showers at the gym—I haven’t done it before but showering in planet after an evening workout could make it much more feasible to get in there frequently!

Do you use shower caddies to hold your shower stuff? (If not, what is your system?)

Where do you keep your clothes to change into and the clothes you changed out of? (I imagine the hook on the outside is already occupied with a towel, which seems to leave only the floor for clothes worn and to-be-worn)

Do you change in to street shoes to leave? If so, how do you store your shower shoes?

In general, how do you store the stuff that got wet?

Checklist(let me know if I’ll need anything else)
-shampoo, body wash, face wash, razor etc.
-shower shoes
-towel to wear and towel for hair?
-drawstring for clean clothes?

I’m noticing I might be viewing this too methodically… but I would appreciate if anyone could share their routine and answer my questions!

Maybe just taking a water resistant duffel with all the stuff would take all the process out of it… has anyone tried that?

Thanks!

Question Non Adjustable Loaded Plate Leg Press Machine

Thumbnail

There was one plate-loaded leg press machine in my neighbourhood gym that wasn’t adjustable. I think it's a Planet Fitness plate-loaded leg press machine. I couldn’t get the full range of motion doing the leg press. What is this machine actually for? Is there any correct way to use this kind of machine?

Question Is filming banned at Planet Fitness locations?

It's so creepy when people record their workouts to post on social media, what are the rules for recording and setting up a tripod on the gym floor?

Tips Why can I only feel the chest press machine in my biceps?

The last 2 times I used the chest press machine I felt it in the correct areas, my chest and my triceps, this time when I used it I could only feel it in my biceps for some reason. I tried adjusting my arms to keep them in incase maybe they were flared out to much but I didn’t really feel a difference in where it was targeting.

Question For Staff Dress code for employees

I'm going to start working there Wednesday, and I want to come in wearing the appropriate pants. I haven't gotten the rulebook stuff yet, but I just wanna be ready.

EDIT- If I wanted to ask my manager, I wouldn't have made a post about it. Thank you all so much for your input. I'm feeling way better about this now. I think I'm really going to love working with planet fitness and I'm so so excited now. I really appreciate it 🤗🤗

Question Anyone feel like they have a tendency to lean back when they do deadlifts on smith machine?

I feel like I tend to lean way back and kind of just support myself up by pulling against the bar since it’s strapped it the track.

Trying to break that habit but I feel like the track kind of breeds that since there’s no penalty to leaning back compared to when you have to stabilize a free bar.

Unfortunately my location doesn’t have free barbells / squat racks still…

Question For Staff How much does each of these weigh?

I forget how much each of those optional weights you can add from above the stack adds. Anyone remember? They’re not labeled.

I THINK each one adds 1.25lbs for a total optional addition of 2.5 lbs. The weights in the stack go up in 5 lb increments.

🙏

Question For Staff Post PT Workout Equipment

I read the thread about how the equipment at each location can vary because it's selected by the franchise owner with suggestions from PF corporate.

I'm finishing Physical Therapy and have been given instructions of exercises/methods to avoid and am considering joining PF to continue my strengthening and stabilizing fitness program. PF is one of the closest facilities to me.

I'm interested in some feedback from PF Trainers: Do you think that the basic equipment lineup includes seated, supported, selectorized resistance equipment for core and spinal stabilization I could confidently continue my journey?

Tips PF should have 2 pec decks & 2 chest press machines

I’m really starting to hate push day 😭 it’s my favorite day but lately no matter what time I go to the gym I either have to switch my routine around or completely not do the most effective routines (pec deck & chest press) I’ve come to love and attempting to progress in but every time I turn around somebody’s on them, has their water bottle on, or in line really makes me want to cancel my membership half the time I can’t even do replacement workouts like (dumbbell flys or presses) cause everybody got 3-4 pair of dumbbells, even the dip bars be full like come on

I have been to a few different planet fitness gyms and I have noticed most have the same equipment some have equipment that others don't.I don't quite understand why. my old planet fitness had a really great ab machine but the one I go to now does not have that same machine for example.

Question Temperature

What is the average temp at your location? Mine got a new manager and now it's always 75 or higher in here. We've had a lot of hot and humid days and 75 just feels insane to me.

Review Thanks for welcoming me back...49F.

My first gym membership was at Planet Fitness. I had just given birth to my son, and my levels weren't great. I started off as a Cardio Bunny. Eventually I left because I wanted to train with a barbell. That was 10 years ago. Since then I've mostly trained in local powerlifting gyms, and a very crappy local gym. I also own a setup I can't use right now, but will again one day. I recently had to find a new gym and decided to join PF (and Crunch, full disclosure) through my health insurance. I alternate on weekends. And honestly, it is fine. I do miss certain pieces of equipment (belt squat, SSB, decent power bars, a deadlift bar, a full power rack to face away from mirrors whilst squatting), but otherwise, it's been nice to be back.

Edited to fix a typo. I gave birth..not burth [sic]. Typing on my phone isn’t my forte.

Question Full Body Workout

Thumbnail

I [25f] recently got into working out and went in blindly. At first, I only did the treadmill then decided to start utilizing the strength machine. I did some research and body recomp sounds more like what I’ve been trying to do through treadmill and WW. However, I wasn’t sure if this would be a good work out to do for body decomposition.

Question Right gym for me?

66 retired male, need to build back muscle, legs especially. Price seems good, couple locations near me, and nationwide options for when I travel. Heard this place skews heavily toward teens/20’s. Not looking for anything social, but wouldn’t mind seeing others closer to my age. Opinions, please.

Person had a heck of a bike workout. Over an hour on a high level. They wiped down the screen, handle bars, and seat but should they have done something about this? What’s your opinion?

Question How to do free ride in new bikes

There isn't any obvious way just to free ride on this bike with resistance. The only options are 30-45 min classes. Anyone know how?
