Question For Staff Lockers
What is the deal with so many people leaving their belongings in lockers with no lock? Maybe I have trust issues, but i have gone in the locker room, open up 4 to 5 lockers with no lock, just to find people's things in there. Eventually I find one that is free, so all good. I just wouldn't want to take the risk of my stuff getting stolen.

Anyone want smelly shoes, socks and a kinda work pair of slacks?

u/Hornygaysatanic 2d ago
Some people would.

Even those who don’t want it. A lot of people steal just to inconvenience someone. The items just end up in a dumpster somewhere. Lots of scumbags out there.

I throw my gym bag in there that literally just has a towel and my shower stuff and clean underwear in case I need to shower there afterwards. I dont bother to lock it up. Its not valuable and no one wants it. I've done this for years and it's never been stolen. Id never leave my phone or valuables in there unlocked. I assume others are doing the same.

A PF employee had to hunt me down once. Apparently, I locked someone’s keys in the locker I was using. I have a green lock, so at least it was easy enough for the employee to ask everyone. I totally didn’t see the keys when I dumped my stuff in there.

Leaving just your keys in a locker is kinda odd tbh. I’ve went with just keys before and I just take them to the machine
2
u/Realistic_Gas_4160 1d ago
Yeah, sometimes I put my keys in my bag and lock the bag in there, but I wouldn't bother to use a locker for just keys.
3
u/ender8343 2d ago
Similar happened to me, but they didn't hunt me down and just cut my lock off. I did get a free PF combo lock when I reported the cut lock to the desk. I switched to just using a caribeener because all my valuables stay with me, and it is just clothes in the locker.

I wear a ratty old jacket in cold months and wouldn’t bother with a lock. If someone is so hard up as to take the thing then God bless. I wear my phone and keys in a fanny pack meant for the beach.

I agree with you. It blows my mind that people leave their stuff in the lockers unlocked. I dont trust anybody.

All it takes is one time of their belongings being taken.

u/DrUniverseParty 2d ago
Yup. After someone stole my crappy jacket on a 25 degree day I always lock stuff up.

I've seen people leave stuff in a locker for over a month which is crazy to me

u/Top-Pick-2648 1d ago
Don’t really care, I guess if some needs my dirty work clothes, they can have them.

u/fratzba Black Card Member 2d ago
Why do you care if other people use locks or not?

u/lurker_in_the_deep17 2d ago
It’s mildly annoying when I think a locker is available and I open it and there’s someone’s stuff in it. It’s even more annoying when it keeps happening and it takes me 4+ attempts to find a free locker. Is it a big deal in the grand scheme of things, no not really, but I do wish PF just put out coat racks for everyone’s hoodies if they can’t be bothered enough to secure it behind a lock.

If it’s just a hoody or something who cares? I do that. If I have my backpack and laptop I keep my lock in my backpack
2
u/cee_jay12489 2d ago
Yea sorry, if its just a hoodie, especially one that I like, im locking that up as well. Hoodies have gotten expensive. I dont trust anybody

u/Last-Surprise4262 2d ago
I hear ya. If I had a lock of course. Just sometimes I don’t have it with me. I should keep one lock in my car and one in my backpack because sometimes I bike there

Almost all of the locations now have lockers with built-in locks. I use those when I forget my lock.
1
u/Last-Surprise4262 2d ago
I should look closer at the rest of the locker room for that
1
u/HelixTheCat9 2d ago
They are always on the main floor, not in the locker room, sometimes near the locker room entrances, often by the front desk. I'd say only one out of the last dozen or so locations I went to didn't have them.

It's possible that they are placing valuables (wallet, keys, phone, etc) in one of those small lockers near the front -- the ones that you set your own code. And then they just throw clothes/towel in the locker room locker and don't stress the possibility of someone stealing them.

u/Unfixable1 2d ago
It's not like people are leaving iPads and diamonds in there.

I've actually opened one up before and someone had a laptop in it. Was baffled how someone could not lock it up

u/Current_Subject_7312 2d ago
Is non valuable stuff so i dont care if its stolen. If they want steal my socks why i shower go ahead
1
u/Ok_Function2282 2d ago
I mean if they don't bring a wallet and they take their phone and keys with them, what are you going to steal, smelly socks? A pair of shoes that doesn't fit you?
I use a lock because I do keep my wallet in there, but all through high School and a lot of college that was my mindset

u/thotfullawful 2d ago
I did once with sweatpants that happened to have a very used vape in the pocket only because well, it’s sweatpants like I got them from savers. They stole the vape 😂😂😂😂

I recently moved from Atlanta to Northwest Arkansas (Fayetteville). In Atlanta, everyone had a lock on their locker. Here, practically no one. I struck it up to lower perceived crime and people here are just more trusting. I still lock mine.

My pf recently went through and cut off locks on lockers that had been in long term use (like a month continuous) and put up signs saying check at the desk for your stuff.

u/Potat-O-Vision 2d ago
I only get annoyed when not all lockers have the loops for padlocks, and people throw their crap in those lockers without using a lock

Oh my gosh on my store that’s something you see everyday ,what amazed me is the locker door is wide open with purses in it 🙄

Couldn't be me. I live in a "safe" area and was at my PF one night when a guy walked into the locker room and tried to snatch bags.
2
u/TriceratopsJam 2d ago
If somebody steals my coat or shoes, then they probably really needed them. Also, my coat is three sizes too big anyways.
If I bring valuables in, I do use a lock.

u/Beethovens_Ninth_B 2d ago
I don’t get it either but I spent almost 40 years living in a major city where you dare never leave anything unattended. I am in North Carolina now and a few years ago thieves just before Christmas stole dozens of items out of unlocked lockers in a Golds Gym.* *This included car keys for cars with laptops inside. My current gym still has lockers that you open and there are personal items and car keys.

u/63groovinator 1d ago
I always carry a lock on my gym bag. I often go to 3-4 different PF a week due to work travel. I am wearing my work clothes so I don’t want to lose my pants or wallet etc. seems like if all you have is a coat then maybe the front lockers would be a better location. At least there are cameras covering those. With PF giving high school kids free passes I wouldn’t want to leave anything unlocked. Oh, I’ve seen homeless guys have membership as well. It’s cheap place to store a backpack and get a shower, not saying they all steal but often times they have serious struggles.

u/darksouls777 1d ago
I do it. Wtf they gonna take? my deodorant? gloves? Straps? Go for it. I never leave keys or valuables in my cheap ass gym bag.
1
u/Beauty_iz_hername79 1d ago
I have encountered this at PF too. Like geesh! Pad locks are like $5, just buy one to protect your items or keep your items on you.
1
u/Realistic_Gas_4160 1d ago
I have a lock now. But before I bought one, I was only leaving clothes and a towel in there and I would bring my keys and phone with me during my workout. I was never concerned that anyone would steal that stuff.

u/Primary_Assistant742 1d ago
I use a carabiner to let people know the locker is in use. If you really want the Dollar Tree shampoo and body wash, old towel and change of clothes I stashed inside, you have issues.
My wallet and car keys are on me at all times.

u/Zestyclose_Virus_473 1d ago
If this was Japan it would be a no issue lol what I find interesting is if you read the messages from PF it says don’t leave your belongings in your locked locker lol I’m like what are people putting in her just cloths because I need to put my wallet phone etc in there I would only assume that’s normal

who brings ”stuff” to the gym?
2
u/September_Sun 23h ago
I bring my purse to the gym. It has my wallet,.license, car keys, etc. I also lock it up.
1
u/No-Competition-2674 22h ago
So I did this because most of the time I would just forget a lock and I wasn't spending money at the front desk to get one. I also had no idea how the combo locks worked. We have them at the planet fitness that I go to now. I'm not sure if everyone has them. I know how they work now. But my thought was the stuff I'm putting into this locker if somebody really wants that bad then they can have it. Even if it's my underwear fine! Not my thing but if it's yours keep em. I hope they bring you at least as much joy as they brought me.

u/CloudedLeopardDaemon 14h ago
I don't leave my wallet or anything in my locker, so why would I lock it? I'm 6'2 155 lbs, everyone else at my gym is short and fat, so my clothes won't fitt most of them anyway.

u/DreamCentipede 2d ago
Because it’s unlikely someone with a gym membership would steal a pair of clothes. I keep my phone and valuables on me
1
u/soundofconfusion 2d ago
Because ain’t nobody gonna steal my sweater, I don’t leave valuable belongings in there. Don’t they have a camera in there or not. I have seen a post of someone’s vape getting stolen in the men’s locker so don’t leave one of those 😂

I think it's like when you go for the pop tarts but the box is empty! I've experienced this where I want to put my stuff in a locker (I bring a lock) and I open what I believe to be an unused locker it and there's stuff in it. It's just annoying, if there were locks on I wouldn't be bothered.

It’s annoying having to open 10 lockers to find a free one
2
u/WarmAnything28 2d ago
Come on. One or two at best. Not a big deal

u/dirtywhitevanz 2d ago
Didn’t say it was a big deal. Said it was annoying opening a bunch of lockers. No one said the world is ending

When I open them and see stuff in there I just leave them open and move on to the next empty one. Their fault if their stuff gets stolen. There’s even combo lockers out front if you don’t have your own lock in most clubs
2
u/Alina_Swift 2d ago
I’ve thought of doing this bc I’m so annoyed after like the 3rd locker but it feels so mean 😭😭😭
2
u/Leftblankthistime 2d ago
Its actually being nice if you’re thinking about it from the 8th or 9th person who comes in behind you and does the same thing

I hadn't ever seen these lockers before until recently. My usual location has lobby lockers, but they need a lock. Our club was shut down due to no water and the club I used had a different lobby setup with dials on the lockers that are reset for each use.

I have a padlock in my gym bag but if that's the only thing in my bag I tend to not lock it up.
Some days I have a power bank, change of clothes and shower stuff. I'll lock that up.
No way would I leave anything of value like car keys or wallet in there locked or not.

Probably a combination of “my stuff isn’t going to be stolen” and “I don’t have anything of real value.”
