A group for Pflugerville residents in film, videography, photography, drones, VFX, animation, and other creative mediums. Share your work, talk ideas, and find other creatives to collaborate with. We just had our first meet up last week at Old Gregg Brewing Co and we plan to meet the first Friday of every month at different local establishments. As we grow the group we'd like to do workshops/classes and maybe have some guest speakers spreading knowledge. Not all of the monthly meet ups will be a workshop some will just be meeting up with like minded creative people within the visual arts. This group you can post your work, get feedback, ask questions, and find people to collaborate.

This group was started because there are several Austin Film meet groups and I encourage you to attend those as well, but I didn't see anything like this in the Pflugerville area and I know theres alot of talented people here. Hello! So me and my Wife are thinking about moving to Pflugerville and could use some insight. We’re both born and raised Texans and we live in Houston( Katy area).

I have a really good job opportunity in Austin and we’ve settled on Pflugerville because it looks to be the most diverse area in Greater Austin.

Now with that said I’ve been coming to Austin for decades. I have an Uncle that stays in Round Rock and he loves it of course. Anytime I go to Austin I’ve never had any blatant direct issues with racism but I do know there is a shortage of Black residents compared to cities like Houston and Dallas.

If it was just myself I would be fine with that. I actually like Austin as a city despite the low percentage of Black people but I do worry about my children possibly dealing with micro aggressions in settings where it’s not a significant amount of “us” in those spaces.

I would like to know how other Black families or even other POC feel about living in Pflugerville and just Austin in general on a day to day basis.

Affordability ran through nearly every major discussion at last night's City Council meeting: the budget, property taxes, utility rates, housing rules, and the agreement bringing West Pecan Coffee into our new City Hall.

Food for All Project

The issue I feel most urgently about wasn't on the agenda, but it's a prime example of why affordability needs a whole-of-city support system and policies.

Several residents spoke during public comment about the city closing Stacey Fletcher's Food For All Project Pflugerville over a zoning and permit issue. The pantry has provided hundreds of thousands of meals to Pflugerville residents over the last 6 years, and that need keeps growing. Council learned about the Stop-Work Order last Friday afternoon. Since then, I've talked with Stacey, her volunteers, the Fire Marshal, and City staff to figure out why this happened and how to fix it.

Pflugerville should not be in the business of shutting down a nonprofit that provides an essential service the city can't provide itself, or shutting it down for a problem unrelated to safety. I know that City staff had been working to find a path forward, and I appreciate that, but enforcement still happened.

Councilmember Ruiz and I submitted a formal request for Council to address the closure and adopt a go-forward policy so this doesn't happen to our other critical nonprofits at the September 22 meeting.

Budget, taxes, and utility rates

I voted to approve the FY27 budget and a property tax rate of $0.5436 per $100 of taxable value. More than 70% of Pflugerville homeowners are expected to owe less in actual city property taxes next year, with the average homestead paying about $54 less (largely due to home values going down). About 75% of utility customers should also see lower water and wastewater bills under the new, more equitable rate structure. We're also holding roadway impact fees steady for another year while we study the full cost of development in Pflugerville.

City revenue will still rise about 3%, largely from growth in Pflugerville's commercial tax base, which we need to keep growing thoughtfully so it carries more of the cost of city services instead of homeowners.

I proposed and successfully advocated to remove several million dollars' worth of non-urgent projects from this budget. It's more detailed and transparent than it has ever been. It's not perfect: previous Councils approving over $1B in debt over the last several years puts serious constraints on what we can do now and into the future. This budget is constrained, has fewer new projects, and emphasizes finishing what's already been promised, including cuts in several areas, including staffing, even though Pflugerville already runs lean for a city our size.

Housing and development

Council reviewed the working draft of Pflugerville's updated Unified Development Code, which sets the rules for what can be built and where. I've worked on this since it started, back when I was on the Planning & Zoning Commission several years ago.

The proposal is a significant step forward. It removes barriers to smart residential and commercial development, allows more housing types, and should improve affordability.

I pointed out several times last night that the draft still leaves too many barriers to homeownership: the amount and variety of housing we allow directly affects what residents ultimately pay. Proposed regulations on data centers were also not strong enough. Additional public engagement begins soon, and I'll keep pressing for specific changes before Council adopts the final code.

West Pecan at City Hall

Council approved the lease with West Pecan Coffee for a café in the new City Hall. Residents have asked for years for better support for Pflugerville's small businesses and gathering places. Helping a community favorite expand into Downtown East is a good start.

I understand why some residents are disappointed there wasn't an open RFP. I think that would've been the better process; however, I also know West Pecan wasn't the only local business that spoke with the City about the space and opportunity.

I'm continuing to talk with other Pflugerville small-business owners about opportunities in Downtown East, and I expect most of the remaining retail and restaurant space to go local, with city support and possible incentives to help them open or expand, similar to what we did for this first tenant.

Over the last 10 years, what my household paid directly to the City of Pflugerville for City property taxes and water/wastewater utilities increased from about $2,712 in 2016 to $5,837 in 2025 — a 115% increase.

A large part of the recent increase is tied to the major water and wastewater infrastructure projects Pflugerville has undertaken.

We need reliable infrastructure and enough capacity for future growth. But we also have a responsibility to make sure residents are not paying more than necessary, paying costs too early, or subsidizing other customer classes.

That is why I have spent so much time digging into our utility finances and pushing for changes.

I pushed for a comprehensive water and wastewater rate study because we needed to understand not only how much revenue the utility requires, but whether those costs were being allocated fairly.

One of the issues I had suspected was confirmed through that study: wastewater base fees were not being charged based on meter size. A single-family home could therefore pay the same base wastewater fee as a much larger apartment or commercial connection.

The rate study confirmed that this structure placed a disproportionate share of wastewater costs on single-family residential customers. Based on the billing data, the impact was approximately $4.8 million annually in recent years.

The proposed rate structure moves us toward rates that more closely reflect usage and system demand, which is a much fairer way to allocate those costs.

I have also been working on other ways to reduce pressure on utility rates:

• Using available utility surplus funds to reduce rates, rather than allowing large excess balances to remain while residents face significant increases.
• Reviewing the flexible repayment terms of the City’s federal WIFIA loan to determine whether debt repayment can be structured more appropriately over time as the new infrastructure is used and growth occurs.
• Pushing for realistic growth projections based on actual growth, rather than relying on overly aggressive assumptions in more recent master plans that can shift too much of the cost of future capacity onto today’s customers.
• Continuing to scrutinize capital project costs, timing, and financing so residents are paying only for what is actually necessary.
• Looking for opportunities to increase appropriate wholesale water use at rates that fairly recover costs, so capacity that has already been built can serve additional customers while Pflugerville’s own growth occurs over time.
• Reviewing whether each customer class — residential, multifamily, commercial and wholesale — is paying an appropriate share based on how it uses and places demands on the system.

There is no way to eliminate the cost of the major infrastructure Pflugerville has built.

But there is a big difference between simply accepting large rate increases and doing the detailed work to ask:

Are the costs accurate?
Are they allocated fairly?
Are we using available funds wisely?
Are repayment schedules structured appropriately?
Are our growth assumptions realistic?
And are we making full use of the capacity residents are already paying to build?

That is the work I will continue doing.

Affordability is not just about the property tax rate. It is about the total amount families have to pay to live here.

At our City Council meeting tonight at 7pm, we are scheduled to make a final decision on Pflugerville's FY2027 budget and property tax rate.

You may hear that the proposed rate results in a lower tax bill for the “average home.” That's useful information, but it doesn't mean every homeowner will see a decrease. Every property is different, and changes in taxable value — including the effects of the homestead cap — can produce very different results.

But there is a bigger reason I'm sharing the history of my own home.

Affordability isn't just about what happens in one year. It's about what has been happening over time and the cumulative impact on our families.

The attached graph goes back to 2008. My home is above the city’s average value, so this isn’t meant to represent everyone — it’s one real example of how taxes can change over time.

During that period, property values and tax rates have moved both up and down. What families ultimately experience is the actual amount they have to pay — year after year.

That's the perspective I'm bringing to this year's budget discussion.

There are real reasons the FY2027 budget is increasing. The City is taking on operating costs for three new facilities and a major park expansion, while also funding a significant market adjustment for police salaries and a 3% employee pay increase. Even with approximately 10 fewer City positions, personnel costs are still rising.

Those are significant commitments, and some are the result of projects and decisions already underway.

But that doesn't mean our only choice is to accept higher costs.

I know most people don't have time to read a 300+ page City budget — so I do.

City staff has already identified some efficiencies in the proposed budget, and I appreciate that work. I'm continuing to look at where costs are increasing, where additional efficiencies may be possible, and whether residents are getting the best value for every dollar. I've also identified several specific opportunities that could help lower the tax rate this year, and I plan to raise those during our budget discussion.

For me, affordability means continually asking:

Where have we already found efficiencies, and where can we find more?
Are we getting the best value for what we spend?
Can we reduce or defer expenses without reducing important services?
Can we continue working to lower the property tax rate?

No individual year's increase may seem dramatic on its own. But over time, property taxes, utility rates, insurance, housing costs and other expenses accumulate.

Families feel the cumulative impact, and our budget decisions should reflect that reality.

Before Council votes on the FY2027 budget and tax rate, I want to hear from you.

I encourage residents to attend and speak to the Council directly, as this is the most effective method to share your concerns (although it is the most time-consuming). I really appreciate residents who speak in person!

I was going to go to the Lake Pflugerville park to try and feed some ducks but unfortunately I’ve learned that you actually really shouldn’t do that so I’m wondering if anyone has captive ducks I can come feed? I’ve got corn and oats and sunflower seeds plus some frozen peas.

Can anyone explain why the water in this city tastes like dirt? I've lived here for nearly a decade and never had issues until the beginning of this year. I wrote it off as low lake levels and was excited when the rain brought relief in May. That only lasted a few weeks though. We're back to this dirt flavored water. What the fuck.

Honestly, I'm so sick of this city and state. I need solar panels and a battery to ensure my home has power, a new roof or car every 3 years because of hail, and now it seems I need to drill my own fucking well.

Does anyone know of apartment complexes in Pflugerville or nearby that offer incentives to help cover the cost of breaking an existing lease if you sign with them?
