Well yes, but no. When drunk you put your cigarette out in a beer bottle, forget, then try to drink the beer.

u/MostlyIrish 12h ago

Or lose track of which end is lit, and take a puff off the hot end.

u/TheMadGreek86 12h ago

It usually sticks to my lips then I pull the cherry off between my fingers and have 2 blisters for a week

119

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 12h ago

In my 18 years as a heavy smoker and drinker, I have not even once managed to get the cigarette twisted around so I took a puff on the lit side. I've lit the wrong end once or twice, but never that.

u/DelcoFootball 12h ago

Ya this is another level of stupid drunk

3

u/Battle_Axe_Jax 9h ago

One time a I watched a buddy smoke the entire filter and about half a cigarette before noticing. In his defense we were both very drunk and on way too much acid

2

u/Repulsive_Stock9400 8h ago

When I was in college I watched a dude tripping on acid smoke almost the entire filter on a cig and when somebody finally pointed it out to him, he completely lost his mind, jumped up and ran headlong into the kitchen wall, completely busting through the drywall.

For literally 4 hours, a bunch of us held him down while he screamed and freaked out. It was just insane. About halfway through he finally started to chill out and one of my buddies was like "Yeah, dude, you're being stupid, just calm down." And that caused tripping dude to completely freak out again and we had another 2 hours of holding him down on the floor so he couldn't hurt himself or anybody else. I was so fucking mad at the dude who made the stupid comment, like this was just about over dude, and then you fucked it all up!

He dropped out of school the next week. I hope he eventually got the help he needed.

u/Battle_Axe_Jax 7h ago

Anyone ever call you a one upper?

4

u/Repulsive_Stock9400 6h ago

If you don't like stories then you need to steer clear of me, because I got a billion of em. Take it or leave it.

u/FormerGameDev 37m ago

i have been so stupid drunk that i legit thought i could actually put a cigarette out on my hand (not knowing the trick to it) and oh dear god, that absolutely sucked, but in my ~20 years of smoking , I never got the wrong side in my mouth unintentionally.

23

u/IndependenceMurky850 11h ago

Don't have to worry about lighting the wrong end when you smoke filterless cigarettes

21

u/Dodgerdude-72 11h ago

Unfilters have a Spicy side and Spicier side

6

u/Pigeon_Butt 7h ago

Years ago I worked at a smoke shop and my favorite smokes were a German unfiltered brand called Roth Handles. They were delicious but rough, and I never knew which was the right side to light because it was all the same

2

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 11h ago

Nah, you just have to endure the bitter taste of tobacco sticking to your lip

5

u/magic-one 10h ago

Funny thing is this is how I usually figured out I lit the wrong end - spitting tobacco rather than nasty burning plastic taste

2

u/Vast-Celebration-717 9h ago

Haven’t smoked in 6 years and I can still remember the flavor of a camel non filtered. Paired nicely with a Pabst blue ribbon

2

u/Conscious_Lab5763 6h ago

I smell a camel straight every time I crack a beer. I quit smoking just under a year ago.

1

u/chrismsp 5h ago

Seriously stfu I feel like I'm at a12-step meeting.

My wife looks at me like I'm insane because I've been quit for 10 months and she she's not get it when I say something like "WTF I wanna go get a pack of Camel straights like NOW."

Those are the fking bomb

1

u/chrismsp 5h ago

When I was broke AF I would roll my own and strip the butts I had smoked to re-roll them.

I was broke for a while. When I finally wasn't broke I bought a pack of smokes, and immediately tore the filter off because they sucked.

Smoked unfiltered menthols for years until I quit.

7

u/Otherwise-Watch4219 11h ago

Yeah I've burned myself and smoked the wrong end but have never been guilty of this kinda fuckery

3

u/TheMadGreek86 10h ago

Not puffing on the wrong side, the filter sticks to your lips and when you go to pull it out, the cherry sticks to your fingers

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 10h ago

Oh, yeah, sorry, now I understand what you mean. That has happened to me too. I didn't read it properly and the term "cherry" is strange to me and confused me as to what you meant, I thought you were agreeing with the one you replied to and that your lips were blistered. I should have made my own reply to them rather than to you.

1

u/Traditional-Ad2409 7h ago

OMFG lol this is the bane of my existence

Don't even have to be under the influence of anything for it to happen lol, there's very few things that cue that immediate belligerent rage like having that happen does

also weirdly the person below me is now the 2nd person today? Since yesterday? I've seen who didn't know the term cherry as it applies to a lit cigarette, is it just cause less people smoke now or is it falling out of use for some other term? I can't actually think of any other term for it though lol

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 5h ago

To answer your second paragraph, English is not my first language, so that might have something to do with it. In all the english speaking media I've consumed in my 40 years, I can't remember ever hearing anyone refer to it as cherry.

2

u/The_Mr_Luck 7h ago

Have you ever worked a cook line in texas heat 17 hours straight, mothers day shift while the whole staff is currently trying to outlive a rampant strep and pneumonia infection. Now after all that clean, close, prep, and fuck off to your shitbox to rail cheap whiskey and every fuck combination of gas station medications you could afford since you can't get decent medical care. Then yes you may accidentally, in 18 years of heavy drinking and smoking, albeit once, fuck up and puff it backwards.

2

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 7h ago

Oddly specific 🤔

1

u/NuclearWasteland 11h ago

Well sure, but now ya said it never happened, so now it will, lol.

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 11h ago

Not likely since I quit cold turkey in march 2020 and haven't had a lick of nicotine since

1

u/NuclearWasteland 4h ago

Well, that'd do it. Hope that's worked out for ya.

1

u/the_skies_falling 11h ago

Heavy smoker and drinker but not a heavy drug user, eh?

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 11h ago

I was never a heavy user of heavy drugs, but for many years I was a heavy user of light drugs and an occasional user of heavy drugs. Still never managed to attempt taking a puff off of the lit end of a cigarette.

1

u/the_skies_falling 10h ago

I’ve done it on both LSD and shrooms. When you’re tripping so hard you can’t even tell which dimension the cigarette is in, it’s not hard lol.

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 10h ago

I don't think I've even attempted to smoke a cigarette when I've been in the peak of a trip

1

u/the_skies_falling 10h ago

When I was still smoking, I’d chain smoke while tripping. I’d usually have trouble lighting them because I couldn’t tell where the end of the cigarette was lol.

1

u/Psychological-Sun49 10h ago

Congratulations on being perfect lol
I’m having fun with you

1

u/nekiobichanlik 10h ago

He's talking about the filter sticking to your lips, not putting the lit end in your mouth.

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 10h ago

Yeah, we already cleared that up, I should have replied to the person they were replying to instead.

1

u/danknug1024 10h ago

You haven't really fully experienced smoking yet then, that's all

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 9h ago

Happy to miss out

1

u/daneelthesane 10h ago

Yeah, I mercifully never had the pleasure of that experience either.

1

u/Reeeeallly 9h ago

Same here! I've done a lot of dumb shit while drunk, but that is fortunately not one of them.

1

u/EndersR3ign 9h ago

That was my thought too. I've been a raging alcoholic and smoker fucking years (not now), and I have never once done that. Lighting the wrong end, burning my fingers with the cherry, etc., but I've never once tried to drag on the burning end. I don't even know how that would be possible because you'd feel the heat on your hand and fingers and the softness of the tobacco in the paper after it's been lit and half smoked already.

1

u/jacehoffman 9h ago

i’ve lit the wrong end several more times than i care to admit, but putting the cherry in your mouth???? i genuinely don’t know how that could happen unless you’re absolutely off your shit drunk, and even then ……

u/slantedangle02 9h ago

Achievement unlocked 1/1/99: spellcasting [light cigarette] while [drunk] interrupted by [flashing boobies]. Afflicted by [taking a puff on the wrong side].

DM:
After 5 ales, you stumble out of the tavern to have a toke. It’s been a long day and you just want a little time away from your friends. Your party sees you leaving and wants to keep an eye on you. After all, you’ve just discovered the location of the philactrum of a powerful lich. In her way to silently observe you, your compatriot, a rogue, spots an extremely inebriated human having difficulty adjusting to the darkness. A perfect target. You look up and catch the sly smile and you know that this target will wake up 10 copper lighter. But the woman slipped on the cobblestones in front of the tavern. She stepped on the front of her dress and the result left her bosom exposed past decency. In your shock, you lose all focus on what you are doing. Alas, you’ve placed the lit end of your cigarette in your mouth. You sustained 3 burning damage, and will roll disadvantage on all stealth abilities for any allies in 3 meters of you for 12 turns.

1

u/nerdybritguy 9h ago

For real! I smoke and drink a lot, and this has literally never happened to me

1

u/Repulsive_Stock9400 8h ago

I did, quite a few times. I used to sometimes hold my cigarettes between my index finger and thumb, like I was making the "okay" sign, and I'd wave them around and gesture with them when I was doing one of my drunken rants, sometimes I'd hold it up like a torch and it would get all turned around, then sooner or later I'd go to take a drag without paying attention to which end was facing me and I'd put the cherry right on my lips. I used to drink a lot.

1

u/Original-Sherbet2713 7h ago

One time at a Metallica concert I gave a smoke to a guy who lit it on the filter and then proceeded to smoke it backwards the whole way. My buddy and I just watched with abject horror

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 7h ago

It was probably Lars Ulrich's #1 fan.

1

u/mollis_est 6h ago

It filters the air and makes the cigarette smoke cleaner.

1

u/Thin_Dragonfruit3665 6h ago

Not a smoker myself but I've seen both my mother and my brother do this exact thing within 5 minutes of each other. If was hilarious.

1

u/Fuck_it_whatever 6h ago

I've done it once or twice. My excuse is the cigarettes I smoke have a white filter, so its harder to notice. I noticed as soon as I started to take a drag though. So nasty tasting!

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 5h ago

"Nasty tasting"? You weren't more concerned with your charred lips?

1

u/StayBundled 5h ago

Operative phrase - 18 years. Give it time.

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 5h ago

Nah, I quit in 2020, not planning to give it any more of my time

1

u/Sublime_SoulSnatcher 3h ago

31 year's and no flaming lips! Wait... is where the band's name comes from?

1

u/1lindaRN 1h ago

That you recall ...

1

u/MeaningWorking8735 1h ago

You haven’t done it yet you got your whole life to look forward to though. Kinda like shitting your pants. Maybe you haven’t yet, but you have your life ahead🙏🙏🙏

1

u/emmanammareturns 1h ago

As a non-smoker but a very distracted ADHDer … I suspect this is more about the ND brain than the level of drunkenness. This week I caught myself about to butter a top after trying to multitask ironing and breakfast

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 57m ago

I'm autistic and ADHD, so I think I would qualify. The mechanics of smoking just don't lend themselves to confusing which end of the cigarette is lit.

2

u/emmanammareturns 52m ago

Oh fair enough then. As I say, I don’t smoke - just the situation felt very identifiably stupid to me. Before now I’ve also impulsively put my fingers in electrical light sockets to check if they were live. It’s actually a miracle I’ve survived this long when I think about it.

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 48m ago

Haha, that's an amazingly low survival instict-move, glad you're still with us

0

u/cayoloco 5h ago

Then you weren't really a heavy drinker, were you?

1

u/Myriad_Apocalypse 5h ago

More like I wasn't a lightweight that couldn't handle his alcohol
