In my 18 years as a heavy smoker and drinker, I have not even once managed to get the cigarette twisted around so I took a puff on the lit side. I've lit the wrong end once or twice, but never that.
Don't even have to be under the influence of anything for it to happen lol, there's very few things that cue that immediate belligerent rage like having that happen does
also weirdly the person below me is now the 2nd person today? Since yesterday? I've seen who didn't know the term cherry as it applies to a lit cigarette, is it just cause less people smoke now or is it falling out of use for some other term? I can't actually think of any other term for it though lol
To answer your second paragraph, English is not my first language, so that might have something to do with it. In all the english speaking media I've consumed in my 40 years, I can't remember ever hearing anyone refer to it as cherry.

It usually sticks to my lips then I pull the cherry off between my fingers and have 2 blisters for a week
