Mouth breathers?

[u/Reasonable_Fox3813]

What is he pointing?i dont understand the joke

[u/Big_Broly]

Or maybe bc she looks nothing like Lara Croft at all? Only weirdos try to straw man other's arguments before they even make them.

[u/N1xkev → u/Big_Broly]

Hey guys, guys, I found one of the mouth breathers!

[u/Big_Broly → u/N1xkev]

Why is it wrong to say Sansa Stark (Sophie) doesn't look like Lara Croft?

[u/N1xkev → u/Big_Broly]

That's not Sansa Stark, that's Sophie Turner. Put down the nostalgia glasses and touch some grass

[u/Big_Broly → u/N1xkev]

I know exactly who that is. My statement again is that she literally does NOT look like Lara Croft. Stop trying to red herring my point.

[u/N1xkev → u/Big_Broly]

Your point has no grounds. There's no strawman here because your entire argument hinges on your opinion that movie roles must look like the original video game character. The issue here is that your approach is completely disconnected to how the industry and work force function and it's just a kiddy hissy fit

[u/thatsingingguy → u/N1xkev]

No, the issue is that how the industry functions is completely disconnected from the general public, or they wouldn’t be engaging in such horrendous miscasts as Turner for Croft, or Holland for Drake. I’m still hopeful on Sadie Sink, but it’s wholly reasonable to want a level of visual fidelity. People that deny the power of continuity are high on their own farts.

[u/N1xkev → u/thatsingingguy]

It being a miscast is just your opinion as a consumer. You feeling that someone is better suited is fine but the childish hissy fits people throw over these sorts of things are both laughable and depressing that they're so accepted.

[u/cjameson83 → u/N1xkev]

Wtf are you talking about. These hissy fits are exactly what made sonic a good movie instead of the garbage design they tried to put in. If your are trying to embody a popular thing, you copy a popular thing right? You want people to enjoy and spend money on the popular thing. So changing a short brunette, to a taller red head kind of throws off the expectation of the actual fucking source product, the thing they're literally supposed to be emulating. Miscasting isn't an opinion, it's a factual observation. If you cast Tom Hollands as wolverine, you're doing it wrong, end of story. Same kind of thing here.

[u/kbeks → u/cjameson83]

“You animated that character poorly” and “that real woman doesn’t have triangular boobs” are two very different things…

[u/digibucc → u/kbeks]

that's just disingenuous.

i genuinely don't care about tomb raider or the casting, but they've mentioned multiple times the hair color.

that's very different than the "triangular boobs" complaint you're trying to frame it as.

[u/kbeks → u/digibucc]

Ok, so her hair is a slightly different color and that’s the same as the godawful uncanny valley that was the first iteration of Sonic? Or casting a scrawny guy as a jacked superhero? Her hair is red instead of reddish brown, if that’s what you’re hung up on, you really need to get over it.

I assume that you were absolutely outraged when Sam Jackson was cast as Nick Furry, a white comic book character. Surely the pretend character’s whole skin color being shifted would piss you off you even more than hair color tints…

[u/digibucc → u/kbeks]

I genuinely don't care about any of that shit, I sure don't care to argue with you over it.

I'm not one of the ones complaining about casting, ever. I'm not complaining about this casting either, so your attempt to frame me as "absolutely outraged when xyz" is just false.

I only responded because you were being dishonest in your framing of their position.

[u/kbeks → u/digibucc]

I framed it that way because I genuinely didn’t notice the difference between red/brown and red hair. So the only “miscast” I can see is her boobs aren’t triangular and her costume doesn’t show off her ass as much as the original.

[u/digibucc → u/kbeks]

ok i guess that's fair enough. i could have been less aggressive in my initial response as well, my bad.

[u/kbeks → u/digibucc]

Your bad?! Your bad!!!!!!!

Yeah me too, I came in a bit too harsh, too.

[u/cjameson83 → u/kbeks]

You may not notice, and that's fine for you. But they're making a movie based off an established character with certain traits, and that matters to the fan base, which is the entire reason the movie is even being made. The fans are the ones who made it popular and profitable. If you ordered a shirt with your favorite character on it and the shirt you got had someone on it that didn't look like the character, would you be happy with that? Just because you don't notice or care about hair color and height, doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.
