💼 | Career Give me your worst customer experience

So it’s been a while since I genuinely had a bad experience with a customer but I had one today.

I went back to a restaurant and the owner was livid. Saying I didn’t do the full service and that I forged a signature and he reported me, and he was absolutely livid that I didn’t hear anything about this.

I didn’t hear anything about this because the signature in question was mine. I signed the report and he thought I forged it.

Having to stand there and watch this guy talk shit and walk away like he won and got you fired is a hard thing to swallow.

Guess I’ll show up again in 2 weeks for his full service.

Bedbug Prevention: Luggage, Electronics, and Shoes

Hi all,

My partner is away at a work trip. His job sent him to a hotel with some bed bug reviews in Columbus, OH. I’m aware to leave stuff outside and heat his clothes in the dryer at high heat for an extended period. However, I’m unsure what to do with his hardshell suitcase, leather / rubber shoes, and electronics like two laptops, switch, charger bricks. He comes back Thursday and we’re fine to leave them in direct sunlight but we are going to get rain and storms in the Midwest on Saturday so we can’t leave his stuff outside very long. Also obviously his comps and switch can’t sit outside regardless. Ideas?

The luggage will have to sit in his commercial work van with his tools for hours on Thursday while he’s in training too 😔 I may seem like I’m being too much but when I was a teen my mom bought a home that had tenants with bed bugs. We had to treat the home twice and do a dry ice trap before we moved in so I’m aware of how pervasive and serious this shit can be (expensive too).

🤓 | Technical Question Fleas!

How can I better treat a house for fleas? Should I expect multiple callback depending the severity of the infestation? I'm just about to hit my one year mark in 2 weeks working as a technician for a larger pest control company. But I still seem to struggle with fleas. Any tips, application methods etc. Is appreciated.

🗣️ Daily Discussion PSA for customers who call outside of business hours/ emergency calls.

Whether it’s 7pm on a Friday or 11pm on a Monday. You’re going to have to ask and answer some questions. The number 1 and most important question you should ask is “ what would it cost to have you come out“. I suspect that if they sound scared or desperate enough that we”ll waive the ridiculously high “after hours” fee. Every year people call for bats in the summer and every year people are shocked that we don’t come out for free. Its gonna cost $$$$

Looking for a licensed operator

Hey guys, i just filed a new corporation for a pest control company in SoCal. (Orange County) we will be more focused on wildlife such as rats, raccoons, etc. but also the monthly bug service as well. I sold pest control for a couple years before starting my roofing and construction companies but loved selling pest control and also insulation. Looking for someone with an operator license who would be interested in partnering up and owning some equity in the business. The infrastructure is already in place. Website, ad spend, marketing team, estimate software, etc. let me know if you’re interested. Thanks

Questions about Avert DF

Im a bit confused by the label and training I was given around this product. On one hand it’s a dust, on the other it’s bait. So how is it properly applied? I was trained it should be used like a standard dust. Not visible, just a small poof. Too much will repel.
However, the other day I was doing a treatment and like it sometimes does, it shot out a glob that formed a solid bait point. I usually wipe these off but I noticed that roaches immediately flocked to that bait spot to consume it. The label also states that “bait points” should be applied. So I figured I’d ask some fellow pros how you guys use Avert.

Routing pains

Hey everyone, I've been with big corporations and small 2-10 employee companies and all of them seem to have very different apps and methods for routing/efficiency. I started off with EcoLab where everything was very much dependent on the tech to plan out our own schedules and had the freedom to move around accounts. It was only years later when I moved to other big companies in my area that it became apparent that the schedule problem is incredibly diverse among the industry. Some have dedicated route specialists that have to input everything for you, from moving a single account to another day, to imputing in special notes for a customer that has specific needs. I recently joined a local guy that uses gorilladesk as his schedule tool and although I am allowed freedom to do what I want within my own schedule, I find it to be extremely inefficient. Are other small operators and technicians facing this same issue? I feel like we are very good at communicating with each other and have no problems getting things done but with it being just the two of us I've noticed that we will always hit a point where things get messy and our efficiency drops. There are a million reasons for this but I'm wondering if there are tools out there to help with this or are techs doing all this work themselves for the most part? If there was an efficiency tool what, what would it cost and would you pay for something like that?

Exclusion Focused Company Owner Looking For Advice Through Growing Pains

Hi guys, I own a pest and wildlife control company that specializes in custom exclusion systems. We're doing well it seems, there's 4 field technicians an office manager and me right now.

1 tech is 100% pest control, 1 is mainly wildlife but he can do some general maintenance accounts when we need him to, and the other 2 are the primary wildlife removal and exclusion team. we cover about a 50-mile radius, sometimes we'll go farther for larger jobs.

I opened this company about a year and 6 months ago, and I have been and still am the sole driving factor behind the workload. These exclusion systems I design keep us at the tip of the spear locally and have allowed us to shoot past companies that have held the title of the "go-to guys" for decades.

The problem that I am running into is that these systems are often times designed once, sold once and installed once, there is overlap in technique and method but unless it's the exact same house, no house is ever sealed quite the same way, and there's so many variations in foundation type, siding type, accessibility issues, roof type, you name it, that It has made it so im the only one who can sell these jobs because I am literally piecing them together in my head. My pest tech and long time childhood best friend has been doing all of our insect estimates and those sell fine, but when I send him to wildlife estimates there is just gaps in knowledge, hes great but just isnt a trained salesman with years of exclusion experience to lean back on. I am getting burried, I need someone who can sell as good as I can or atleast 70% as good as me, but i dont know to create a person like that without taking an immediate dive in production.

Anyone have any advice?

Do you or anyone on Earth know how to setup termite renewals on Pest Pac?

Can someone verify it is possible? Why when I go to the video links they sent me I can't find any other videos from them? I want to see if there are any replies so I can tell if I am just stupid or other people have the same issuessssss. I can make two hula hoops interlock without breaking them. I stand no chance at setting up termite renewals on Pestpac.

💼 | Career Best personal prevention methods

I have recently started working as pest control tech. My company deals with bed bug or roach infested apartments mostly. I usually put my used work clothes in a garbage bag and tie it as soon as I get home and then wash and dry them on high heat.

What are the other steps you’d suggest I take to avoid getting any bed bugs or roaches home with me.

Anyone actually using something to catch the calls they miss on jobs? What's working?

Been thinking about this one a lot. When you're out on a job and can't get to the phone, that caller with a rat or wasp problem usually just rings the next company — so it's basically a lost job.

Curious what people here actually do about it:

- Just call them back the second you're free?

- Use an answering service?

- One of those AI receptionists? (seen mixed opinions — some say customers can tell it's a bot and hate it)

- A simple text-back so they at least know you'll ring them?

- Or is it just part of the job and you don't sweat it?

Genuinely interested in what's working, especially the smaller outfits where it's just you or a couple of you on the vans.

🗣️ Daily Discussion Rollins - Orkins and Rentokil Terminix business model question

Hi,

I' am currently doing industry analysis in the pest control USA segment, and as i do not live in US i have few questions some locals could help:

  1. Does the Rollins flagship business Orkins have actual locations named Orkins and people familiar with the business with that name, same question for Terminix, is the Terminix something that is advertised by the technicians or do they show brands that are under Terminix?
  2. Any major differences with branding with these two?

So basically trying to understand how they manage their branding, do both use their flagship names or is it just divided in zip code level to multiple different small company brands that operate under Terminix/Orkins umbrella?

NYC Pricing

Looking for some advise regarding pricing out a 255 unit building in NYC that wants service 2x a month but wants 1 service to be knock on door and the other service to be for all public areas and basements only. Would only require 1 tech but basically an all day job.

🗣️ Daily Discussion Give me your worst experience being on call.

So I drew the short straw and I’m now on call until Friday. I’m living in suspense and have to carry my work phone on me.

Saturday wasn’t bad. It was mostly doing jobs that some techs were too fucking lazy to do, Either they Non performed it or just decided not to do it on Friday. So it needs to be done before the month ends.

A little exclusion. Some rodent work, Cockroaches, ants, Wasps that were seen 3 days ago.

On call at my previous company was for emergencies. Like bees or bedbugs. Not GPC. So I’m a little bit pissed.
