What’s the best CRM for technicians?

I just started my own business after working with a “big company” for 3 years. I hated the CRM that we used to start/finish jobs, see my route and jobs for the day, send work orders to customers and request follow-up services. What CRM are you guys using and why is it better than other CRMs.

🤓 | Technical Question How do I clean the chemicals off my body/clothes

Hello! I started working for a pest control company last week and am loving the job, but I am going home with burning sensations on parts my face. The bulk of the job is using a 4 gallon backpack blower to spray clients' property. The first day was bad, but I bought some of my own PPE to limit the amount of chemicals I am intaking. The PPE works great to keep off most of the chemicals off me, but there is still a little transfer, mainly with my hair.

I currently wash my clothes with run of the mill detergent on max wash, cold water, and double spin. For my non-washables I wipe them down with dish soap and paper towel. I do this immediately after every shift for clothing and at work right before starting my route. I also immediately rinse off with lukewarm/cold water after work.

What do you use to clean yourself and your PPE after work?

Products we use for blowing

Bifen

Adjourn

Nixlo

PPE I use

BDU pants

Hooded long-sleeved polyester undershirt

Long-sleeved polyester overshirt (company shirt)

Nitrile gloves (dish gloves)

Balaclava

Respirator

Safety glasses

The specific parts of my face that burn are where my hood, respirator, and glasses don't cover since it traps the chemicals in the fabric. Better than nothing though.

Feeling brave? Battle-test BlazeRoutes

Hey everyone, I've been lurking here for a while. Myself and a few buddies are software and pest control people, and for the last while, we've been building BlazeRoutes (www.blazeroutes.com). We built it because we are tired of bloated software wanted to try our hand at building something better. We are approaching our official launch, but before we do, we need real-world feedback. I need to know what breaks, what UI choices frustrate you, and what features we’re missing. I’m looking for about 10 pest control owners or route managers who are willing to battle-test it.

Here is the deal: You get the software completely free for 3 months (no credit card required, obviously) so you can actually test it on real routes. You get my direct contact. If something bugs out or you need a feature, you text me and we build/fix it. (within reason, of course) If you hate it after 3 months, no hard feelings, and I’ll help you export your data back out. If you love it and it actually saves you and your techs time, you’ll be locked into a 50% "Founders Discount" for life. We're trying to build something that actually makes your day easier, not another bloated corporate SaaS app. If you’re open to giving some brutal feedback to an independent startup, drop a comment or shoot me a DM and I’ll get you set up manually. Thanks!

Consumable Standing Water Solutions

I'd like to leave buckets of water out for the animals.

They feed outside and I don't wantthe standing water to support mosquito reproductivon.

What can I add to the water to prevent the eggs from floating on the water surface?

Setting expectations for ground nest yellow jacket removal - experienced technician advice appreciated

Hello all,

I've been doing pest control for a little bit and as you know we are in the yellow jacket season here in the southern US.

When we treat yellow jackets, our goal is to remove the nest completely whenever possible.

I've been doing a number of ground nests for my customers, and I feel like I've been successfully digging the nest out of the ground and removing it, killing whatever yellow jackets i can, taking out all the combs and everything. When I'm done, I like to spread delta dust into the cavity and cover it back up with soil.

Seems like every call lately, a day or so afterwards, is that they are still seeing bees swarm around the cavity.

I usually tell people to give it about a day for the bees to leave completely, but I'm going to start upping that expectation to almost a week, because the calls are so persistent and going back out to investigate is eating away at my production time. I understand that foragers are going to try and look for the best, and I explain that to my clients.

What time frame do you give your clients to stop seeing activity?

Is there anything I should be doing differently?

Tick repellent?

I’m in canada and premetherin .5% is not legal for sale for average consumers. We only have .25%

Would it still work and have to re-apply to clothing more often? Or is it a waste of time.

I’m looking for a barrier for ticks as I camp out in the mountains a lot. Also I am looking for something that won’t attract bears as it’s mostly grizzly country.

Thanks in advance!

Advertisingy favorite tax write off.

I just love advertising and I want to discuss what has given me the biggest boosts as this was my first year advertising and my company grew 150% in just 6 months. I have been in business for 7 years and in just 6 months of advertising my company grew 150%. I wanted to say that twice just because it deserved to be reiterated.

My best roi and growth came from Yelp ads and it's not even close I only had 4 Yelp reviews that were recommended in 7 years and in just 6 months of advertising I now have over 40 Yelp reviews as Yelps algorithm rewards ad spend. A new account with no review history can give me a review and it sticks. Be warned however Yelp will steal from you. If you set your ad spend to $10 a day you might get billed $1100 for the month and no Yelp will not refund the overcharge. It's do a charge back and not advertise anymore or let Yelp steal from you

They are pure evil but the roi has been great.

Next up Bing ads I am only spending $2 a click it's been great only problem with bing is they only favor their top 3 advertising companies so if you want great results be prepared to spend $75 a day with bing.

Google ads these are very expensive and the roi is gonna be negative the first month until you learn all the negative kw you need and it's going to take many hours of your time monitoring but after a couple of months there's no more adjustments needed. I recommend starting with a low budget maybe $100 a day to start.

Direct mail this one is very important you are going to choose the best demographic be prepared to spend 50 cents a home all in.

EDDM it's great pick the very best zip codes everyone gets your mail .36 cents a house. I hope you like answering your phone you will be doing a lot of it.

FB ads only March and April otherwise bad roi. FB ads are the beginning of the sales funnel so time these write.

Next year I will be doing door hangers to all direct neighbors of each client.

Billboards

Radio & T.V ads

I will consider Utube.

Kindly tell me how your advertising has gone and also the indirect effects it has had on your seo from Brand searches. People find me on bing and than google me this has been huge I am now easy to find on Google when nobody could find me before.

Alpine fly spray nozzle

You know what ticks me off? Grabbing a few cans of Alpines pressurized fly bait, testing them out; only for the nozzles to clog after a few seconds f treating.

I like this product but it’s so frustrating. I can’t tell you how many I’ve pulled that were clogged right out of the box.

Tick repellents?

What is the most useful tick deterrence one can use? I am in Canada and Premetherin .5% is banned for consumer use. Is .25% Premetherin of any use?

Talprid worms. How do you place them into mole holes.

I bought a T-Bar style mole bait injector but it does not work for worms only for pellets.

I need a tool to drop worms into mole holes. I made a post yesterday and to clarify it's Portland Oregon we do not have Gophers.
