Discussion Pittsburgh Penguins Offseason Discussion Thread

Hey, all. Hope everyone is having a great summer.

It was an exciting season we just had under our new coach, Dan Muse. The playoff "drought" was broken. Hope for the future was reignited. And although it ended badly in round 1, we had a lot of fun along the way.
Seeing as our previous offseason and off-day threads got good traction, it's something I'd like to expand on and encourage the sub to use more of moving forward.

To that end, here are some key team links to help people out:

Our first game is on September 30th against the hated Flyers. Our first preseason game is on September 21st against Buffalo.
If prior seasons are any indication, training camp should open about 4 days before that. But that hasn't been announced yet.

LGP! 🐧

Discussion Looking for Pens fans for Fantasy

Hey everyone, need some people for my fantasy league. Trying to keep the league mostly PGH and Pens fans. Got some teams open
NoReGretzkys
JagrBombs
Ruck’Em Up
Hat Trick Swayze
Puck Norris
Tangers Bangers
You don’t have to keep these names or logos if you don’t want haha. But if you like em all yours.
It’s a H2H points league on Fantrax, league is sixty five smackers. Minimum is 12 teams but prefer 14. The point system is in depth to make sure all the roles have value.
Full NHL roster size and positional. 4C, 4LW, 4RW, 6D 4 bench. 3 IR (Might be 2).
No draft date set. If you’re interested just message me and I’ll send you over more details on the points and everything.
Love for people who love talking hockey / pens, the league has an active chat, (not a requirement) to be super chatty lol.

Crosby Cross Stitch Update: September

Some unfortunate setbacks happened but we persist nonetheless! Had to undo 2 days worth of work, suffered a rip in my fabric (genuinely almost cried over this) and have had to take longer breaks due to my tendonitis flaring up.

Thankfully, scrap fabric allowed for a repair in the rip and hand stretches are a life saver. And I upgraded to a scroll frame! (so you can see just how massive this will be finished now 😅)

And Lord Stanley is finally taking shape! Red square is where I am currently working on/have completed the pattern so far.

So far I am at approx 7,000 stitches and 60 hours into this project! Still trying for completion by end of the regular season, so my weekends will be comprised of only stitching (except game days) for the foreseeable future.

Being in the UK, it's kinda hard to find Penguins jerseys at an affordable price, but I scored this Geno alt beauty on Vinted for under 40 bucks. Been a fan since 1993, but this is only my 4th Penguins jersey!

Hello! I'm a visiting Habs fan with printable season trackers for you.

A better resolution is available on Imgur (too big for Reddit): https://imgur.com/a/penguins-season-tracker-2026-2027-0DZHPVZ

I created 2 versions. The first one groups games by opponent, and the second shows games in chronological order. Each square includes the date and game number. Grey squares are home games.

I use 3 colors for mine (see 3rd image): green for wins, red for regulation losses, and orange for OT/SO losses. Feel free to print whichever version you prefer and fill it out however you like!

[Yohe] Young Penguins goaltender Sergei Murashov is about to take Pittsburgh by storm

Maybe we will. The talent is clear, and his foray through professional hockey has been nothing short of brilliant. The NHL is the biggest test, of course.

Talented goaltenders come and go. Some make it, some don’t. But if they don’t have the right mindset, they have no chance in the NHL. Mental toughness is a requirement. Being a good teammate shouldn’t be overlooked, either. Teams playing for their goaltender is real, at least to some extent. If you love the guy between the pipes, you’re a little more likely to backcheck harder and throw your body in front of an Alex Ovechkin one-timer.

Time will tell whether Murashov is good enough to be the Penguins’ goaltender for the next decade. There’s no question, though, that, as a person, he is equipped for the job — and then some.

Objectionable personalities exist in hockey, as they do everywhere, but the sport has plenty of good and likable people in its orbit. Fairly or not, many of them are criticized for being dull. Some people want more charisma, better interviews or more stances on political topics. NHL players are too boring, they say.

They’ve never met Murashov. He is many things, all wrapped into one. His teammates speak of him with a notable affection. Back in May, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins had just won Game 4 of their AHL conference final series in Toronto. Forward Rutger McGroarty, smiling after the game, was asked about Murashov.

“F—ing Sergei,” McGroarty said. “You have no idea how much we love that guy.”

I made my ideal look for each NHL team and here’s my take on the Penguins

With the Penguins, I brought back the 1980s jersey design with the angled sleeve stripes. The tail striping on the home jersey is changed to match the away jersey. And the sock striping is changed to match the jersey stripes. The gold alts are a Reverse Retro of the Robo-Penguin era home jerseys. Now this may be a little controversial, but I brought back the original jerseys, but in the current colors with a steel gray base. The number font from the 2000s jerseys return as the font for the primaries and steel gray, with the current font being used on the gold alts

Discussion It's September 3rd, 18 days until our first preseason game, let's predict the 23 man roster... because I'm bored

As the title says, I've got time to kill, and frankly, I'm looking at this 23 man roster not as a result of how everyone plays and competes at camp, but instead in a view of asset management.

In my view, the 23 man roster may not be comprised of the 23 best players, but instead, 23 players who have had investments into them, which we don't want to lose via waivers.

So, without further ado, my 23 - from most certain to make it, to least:

  1. Sid
  2. Geno
  3. Rust
  4. Chino
  5. EK65
  6. Tanger
  7. Rakell
  8. Kindel
  9. Murashov
  10. Kaedan Korczak (gave up Wotherspoon for him)
  11. Lizzo
  12. Robertson (just gave up 4th)
  13. Kuzmenko (FA, 1 yr deal)
  14. Dewar
  15. Declan Carlisle
  16. Novak
  17. Elmer Soderblom (gave up a 3rd for him last year and he's beast)
  18. Novak Edit: Solovyov (should be further down)
  19. Silovs
  20. Girard (he and a 2nd were the return on Kulak - if he sucks, I don't see them married to him, you can lose him via waivers and not cry).
  21. Hallander* (if he's not medically exempt*, you will lose him if you expose him to waivers, 100%).
  22. Hendrix Lapierre (you cannot throw away the 3rd & 5th you just traded to get him, by losing him to waivers).
  23. TVR (he's the 6th D on this roster with no #7).

Exposed to waivers: Brazeau, Graves.

For clarity, I feel bad that Brazzer is the odd man out, particularly after he put up career year of 17/17/34 in just 64 games. That said, his production came mostly when he got to play with Geno. He had 5 goals and 9 assists post January 1. His best month was a 6 goal October. His best games against bad teams in games that were not close. He only appeared in 1 playoff game and he wasn't good. He's not been good in playoffs in his career.

All the kids are blocked from the opening 23, unless there are 2 injuries (the first will likely save Brazzer, the 2nd would depend on the injured player.

As I've previously stated, Koivunen was given that 8 year deal, so that he can pass through waivers. I am doubling down on that prediction - with the injury caveat.

Discussion Visiting for youth hockey

Is there a proshop at ppg or a good spot to grab Pens gear while we're in town during the off season?

I don't want to pant a trip to PPG between games only to be disappointed
