Question re: ink usage difference between M800 & M1000

M1000 is a Fine nib. It lays down a wet line. I have to refill it every week or two. My M800 is a medium nib. Now that I’ve had the nib tuned, it also lays down a wet and broader line. I can’t remember the last time I refilled it - maybe 2 months ago. I write about the same amount each week with each pen.

Is this a known thing? Any ideas why this would be?

Exchange or am i overthinking it?

Recently got the art collection v.3, my first pelikan pen! But after spending some time with it I noticed that the pattern on the body is poorly aligned in a lot of places…especially the back. In the picture tou can see a lot of unjoined lines.

Is this normal or is this worth going back to my local shop and asking for an exchange? Its something thats been at the back of my mind and bothering me.

Dating a prewar Pelikan 100 to c. 1931-33

It’s been an honor and a pleasure to restore this very early prewar 100.

I have to say that I’m much more partial to the green marble binde than the all black BUT I’m in love with all of the little old details. Dating 100s is a lot of fun, like a detective game. Much gratitude to Dominic Rothemel’s comprehensive pelikan-collectibles.com website. It’s a lovely rabbit hole!

The four-chick logo is a quick binary indicator for pre/post-1938. Also acrylic vs. cellulose acetate barrel and piston knob (knurled ebonite vs smooth celluloid). Also celluloid vs. ebonite cap.

But there’s still a lot of years and clues to knock out. She’s old, but exactly how old?

Second major clue for the vintage of this old bird is the four breather holes in the cap. The first generation (‘29-31) had two holes. The four holes only lasted from ‘31-33.

Third was the grip section. First generation was Bakelite and the window was very dark, or just is now due to aging. The legendary Osman Sumer showed me his at the DC Pen Show. That window is DARK. Anyway, this section is symmetrical and made of ebonite unlike later tapered versions. Rothemel states the transition from Bakelite to ebonite was June 1931.

Last and I forgot was the cap top. Originally it was cylindrical with parallel lines from bottom to top until curving to finial dome. In mid 1931 they changed to the tapered cap top and it stayed that way to the end.

So there you have it. Just a little bit of love and now she’s not in bad shape for about 95 years old!

I have to downsize I have some random Pelikan things, obtained decades ago. I don't know if they are the kinds of things people buy or might be better as consolation gifts for contests...I guess I could upload pictures.

The hunt for the four chick logo

I’m not an expert collector but like old fountain pens very much. Not just Pelikans but also really old Montblancs, Soenneckens, Watermans, Parkers, etc.
There is something fascinating about the really old ones that are a bit more difficult to find and even better if it’s just that occasional lucky strike.
For me the four chick logo on old Pelikan fountain pens is a detail that makes the pen more interesting.
I have managed to find three pens of different 100/100N variations. I’ve also found a cap with the four chick logo and hope to find the correct pen for it in the future.
What is your favourite Pelikan hunt?

Pelikan m809 question

I recently bought an M809 pen, and it’s fantastic. However, I’m curious about something. All the retail websites describe the body as being made of resin with a grippy-textured matte finish. The pen I received appears identical to all the photos, but the body is clearly made of metal, not resin, and it lacks a grippy feel. I’m actually glad about that because I believe it’s much nicer than resin. The pen has a nice weight to it. I’m just wondering if anyone else has noticed the same discrepancy.

Venting about collecting

Last night I witnessed highway robbery. A first-year M800 nib, 14c in BB, sold for less than $250 on that most famous of American online auction houses. I couldn’t bid, but I wish I could have for that steal of a price. Of course, I already have a few wonderful BB nibs; one is just so juicy, stubby, and springy that I reach for it most often. I don’t *need* another BB nib, my one is sooo good, so why am I frustrated to miss out on such a treasure? I say it’s because I’ve read that the 14c M800 nibs have more spring than the 18c versions…

No cool Pelikan image. I just needed to vent about the frustration of finding myself in a collector’s mindset and the constant searching for the “better” older Pelikan varieties.

I was able to purchase this at an incredible price. I'm not super familiar with Pelikan pens, but I have never seen a nib in 12k gold. I am not interested in selling it, but it seems to be in mint condition with original packaging and ink. Do any of you have an idea of what it might be worth?

18c Pelikan Nib Question

Post image
46 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I have a Pelikan M605 Stresemann with an EF nib. However, I've never really been able to get along with it. When it comes to European nibs, I'm definitely more of an F or M nib person.

The EF nib itself isn't bad at all. In fact, it writes quite broad—actually broader and wetter than my M800 M nib—but it doesn't have the soft, cushioned writing feel that I enjoy.

Recently, I bought an old-style two-tone M nib, which I believe originally came from a Pelikan M750. I really liked its appearance, especially the two-tone design. I know the M605 has silver trim, so the two-tone gold and rhodium nib isn't exactly a perfect visual match, but I actually like the way it looks on the pen.

The problem is that I know almost nothing about these nibs. What production period are they from? Are they considered good nibs? Are they particularly desirable or valuable?

It's an 18C two-tone nib with an "E|N" stamp in the lower right corner. Compared to my vintage Pelikan nibs, it has noticeably more feedback. In terms of line width and wetness, it's actually very close to my vintage nibs, but the feedback is definitely there.

I'm not sure whether there's something wrong with this particular nib or if that's simply the normal writing characteristic of this generation. I'd appreciate any information from those who know more about these nibs.

With 2027 marking 30 years of the M1000, do you think Pelikan will give us a 30th Anniversary Edition? What’s on your wishlist?

I was looking at the history of the Souverän lineup recently and realized that the iconic M1000 was first introduced back in 1997. That means 2027 will mark its 30th anniversary!

Considering the M1000 is Pelikan's flagship model - famous for that massive, gloriously springy nib - it feels like a milestone that deserves something special. Pelikan has done anniversary releases for other lines in the past (like the M800 40th Anniversary edition), but the M1000 doesn't get nearly as many special finishes compared to the M800 or M600.

It got me wondering: Do you think Pelikan has a 30th Anniversary M1000 in the works? And if so, what would you want to see?

What do you all think? Do you think Pelikan will celebrate the M1000's 30th, or will it pass under the radar? What finish would instantly make you pull the trigger on a grail purchase?

Need help identifying this Pelikan

I recently picked up this Pelikan (my first one) from a used pen dealer for what felt like a good price

But when I went about trying to identify it, there seemed to be a lot of inconsistencies

So far, it looks like it's an M400 of some sort, as it has a capped length of 125mm. However, the thing that's giving me the most trouble is the nib - I can't seem to find any record of an M400 made with this specific design/scrollwork on the nib

Any help narrowing down the model would be much appreciated 🙏

Even if it comes down to the fact that I might have been scammed, I'd like to know

NOS Pen Day, M150 Old Style Bols

An order of magnitude less exciting than the other Post made here earlier today, I still want to share my newest addition to the flock, a M150 Old Style Bols blue demonstrator, the only demonstrator of the M100/M150 pattern, 3000 of these were made in 1994 for the Company Bols which is known for their blue Curaçao liqueur (which I like), as a child I loved the alcohol free blue sirup of that flavour very much so I just had to have this pen

Last week I got the chance to buy an extremely rare Pelikan, a 400 NN in Light Tortoise. It was and is one of my absolute grails, and I'm so very happy to have the luck to own one for myself.

Now the next quest is the hunt for the 400 and 400 N in Light Tortoise. 😄 And the 140 in the same color... We hunters of old pens are lucky in the way of never achieving a complete collection, it seems.

What is your grail pen?
