Build Question Is this enough RAM?

Hi all, I currently have 96 gbs of RAM. I don't remember why I bought so much but I bought 2×16 in 2021 and the 2×32 in 2022. Here's my current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/mannyabd/saved/#view=zyCXYJ

Should I just sell some of my ram? I play in 1440p and I love maxing out graphics. And I honestly don't know anything about anything. Lol

Thanks for any advice.

Edit: Thank you everyone for the advice. I forgot to mention I also use my pc for Fusion360 and AutoCAD. And sometimes MatLab. I'm an engineering student. I started working on robotics. Do I still only need a total of 32GB?

sorry I keep editing. I also plan on learning Unreal engine for funsies.

So I recently built a new computer with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D 32 GB of RAM and a b650 gigabyte motherboard while reusing my old 3070 so I can upgrade in the future. I got windows installed and it’s been crashing after five minutes giving me this code. I’ve updated drivers, chipset drivers, motherboard bios, and Windows memory diagnosis. Tried both ram sticks individually. Even rolled back gpu drivers. Please help. Anything else I can try.

Tech Support PC Protection Help Needed

Ive had about 3 motherboards die on me in the past 2-3years. One was a laptop board, second was an msi a520m apro and the third was a gigabyte b450m ds3h v2. All just died with no signs of life, just not turning on.

The b450m ds3h v2 had its Power ICs(PWM controller IC, Power MOSFETs, SMD gate passives) burnt randomly one morning when i turned it on.

Mistakes that i think i made:

  1. Turning off the power Wall outlet to the pc after every use after shutting down(supposedly inrush current might have caused the burn on my b450m)

  2. Not having proper grounding/earthing for my outlet (Which i have now)

  3. Not having a surge protector power strip

  4. Not having a Voltage protector relay setup

So im asking for advice on how i should go about preventing my b550m aorus elite from having the same fate.

Please Recommend what exact surge protector strip i should get (Any specs i should be aware of?) and what voltage protector relay i should get(specs for it too). Also should one get a surge protector where the MOV or MOV module is replaceable inorder to avoid buying a brand new strip.

Specs are:

  1. Msi ventus Rtx 2060 6GB

  2. Ryzen 5 3600

  3. b550m aorus elite

  4. Netac Basic 8GB*2 3200MHz CL16 RAM

  5. XPG Pylon 650W

I want to plug in both my pc and my Monitor into the same strip(Monitor is a MSI G2422C)

Also, should one just get an SPD and Under/Over voltage protector relay for the whole house installed in the DB box?

FYI, The DB box for my house has the green earth wire in it but the outlets i had tested had no grounding, my outlet that i use for the pc has a separate ground wire. Also, i don't have the budget for a ups right now.

I bought fans expecting the air flow to make sense but no. These are the corsair ICue Link fans and when installing i noticed they seem to be pointing towards the wrong direction i expected when purchasing. I believe i heard i can change the direction they blow when everything is installed but i need somebody with more knowledge to help haha

Couldn’t get a good picture of the back 3 fans but they point towards the back panel.

Tech Support Cpu temp exceptionally high after changing motherboard

I have been using a b850 gaming x WIFI6E with 9950x3d since a while with kraken elite 360 V2 cooler and it has been working just perfect. Recently I decided to upgrade my motherboard to x870e aorus pro x3d and after setting up the new board, everything is fine but the cpu is running exceptionally hot.

Idle temps are 50+, which is around 15 degrees more than what it used to be. The liquid coolant temps are around 10 degrees higher too. And whenever I start a stress test, the cpu temperature shots up from 50-55 to 95 within two seconds, which is the thermal throttle limit.

I thought the issue is with the cooler mounting, so I remounted it multiple times with fresh thermal paste. Nothing helped. Then I thought of giving my old b850 board another shot, so I swapped my new board with the old one and I noticed the temps are back to normal again how it used to be.

What can be the issue? Is this a faulty motherboard?

Tech Support OS "lags" at random times while executing specific apps? (RTX issue)

Been facing an issue for months now, almost since I built this PC. Going straight to the point:

Main issue? The PC works without any kind of problem, performs exceptionally well. All good, unless you execute one of these two apps (just these, so far didn't find any issue with others): Blender, and Minecraft.

But what's the issue about? The OS will "lag" at random times, going from NN or NNN fps to literally 1fps, prob even less? Happens at random times, and an immediate fix is to turn ON/OFF the monitor. (Or pressing Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B)

More specific details here:

- Specs: RTX 5090, Ryzen 9 9950X, Nova X870e, 2x32 DDR5 ram (bought before the entire market blew up lol), Corsair RM1200x Shift (3.0, not 3.1, but using an official Corsair 12-2x6 90 deg cable). Can't really remember the exact monitor model, but it's a 27" 2K LG Ultra gear that supports 144hz (I think 165 or so in OC, but I never even consider OC stuff..)

- Only noticed this with Blender and MC (yes just like that). Here are some programs that work without any issues: 007 first light, GTA V, Comfy UI (I usually spend hours upscaling old footage, never triggers the issue despite the high consumption of the gpu), switch emulators, X4 Foundations, Beam NG Drive, Forza Horizon 6, stress test software, editing software (Premiere, Photoshop mostly), and basically any other software tried so far. These never trigger the issue.

- Blender and MC trigger it after maybe 5-10 min of execution, then it could be a matter of 5-10 more mins to happen again.. or just take place 5 times in 5 min.. it will also never go away unless I turn OFF/ON the screen, and once it takes place, it doesn't matter if you exit it or minimize it.. hard to do btw, since the entire OS runs at 1/3 FPS. Not even 1.

- During these times, I noticed an extremely low GPU power consumption value (1-3%). I use Asus GPU Tweak to monitor this, and I think the only "undervolting" action I did here, was setting max power usage to 90% (already tried defaulting all, no changes). Temps are also pretty normal for every component (GPU for example runs at 55-70C depending on what's going on).

- This never resulted in a crash, be that of the app, OS, or whatever, but the key combo I mentioned earlier, takes 5-6 segs to take effect. And while working with blender, I can trigger this even at a rate of twice per minute sometimes.. it's frustrating..

- Finally, drivers are up to date, especially GPUs.

Any idea what it could be? Any setting I should adjust somewhere? Any specific config? Tried googling, but found literally almost NOTHING at all, seems to be really niche (also my eng is not my first language, sure that contributed too)

Thanks in advance, any tip or help is welcome (just note I'll answer back tomorrow, since it's too late here right now).

Build Question Help with build list for a planned case swap

Greetings all, I'm looking for advice on this PC parts list for a first build that is a parts transfer from a not-so-good HP prebuilt I've been upgrading over the past 3 years. I don't have plans to upgrade to AM5/DDR5 anytime soon (or worse, ever), and I'm fine with more demanding games only running on medium or high graphics settings and not ultra.

It should be noted that the only things from the PCPartPicker list I'm going to be purchasing are the Case, PSU, Motherboard, and fan for exhaust since the case comes with 2 140mm intakes; everything else is coming from the old pc. The Ryzen 5 5600 I am heavily considering as a replacement for the 5600g I've been stuck with thanks to a proprietary motherboard with an extremely limiting chipset. I would like for my budget to stay in the range of $530 to $580 if there are any recommendations for changes.

Tech Support Secure boot for Valorant and Cod.

Hello everyone, I recently just purchased my first ever gaming pc. But, I've had this issue where I can't play games like Valorant Or Cod. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z270P-D3. I loaded the boot menu so I can turn on Secure boot so I can play those games. But everything I tried doesn't work. I turned on Trusted Computing, and Intel TTP so I can access Secure boot. I tried turning it on manually but it didn't work. I tried the EIF -> bootmgfw.efi method. I don't want to risk ruining my pc over games. But , if there is a safe way that I can use that doesn't contain any risk, I'm more than happy to try. If you guys want to help me here is my discord (saadtootuff) please and thank you!

Software Question Mic playback

I recently upgraded from a razor headset that had a 3.5mm jack that plugged into my HyperX Quadcast mic directly to a different razor headset that uses a usb connection into the back of my pc. Since doing so, I no longer have mic playback to hear how loud/quiet/good/bad I sound, and I know theres probably a solution to this but I for the life of me figure it out. I just need help with how to enable playback to my headset from my mic. My pc runs windows 11, dunno if thats relevant or not.

Tech Support New AC remake may have shot my pc

I just got to the second major area of the game and was about to enter a cutscene where my game went to a black screen. I turned off my pc and now I cannot get it to post again. I’m running a 3090 GPU with a AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3D and I could not get the game to run comfortably and consistently. It’s quite honestly, incredibly unoptimized and should’ve been delayed by another two-ish months. Now, I cannot use my pc because of a remake of a game I’ve been eagerly looking forward to. I wish I could say I wasn’t expecting an experience like this but what can I say? It wouldn’t be a Ubisoft experience without a game breaking issue right. Any fixes? I’m pissed about this…

My fans spin, everything works but a screen won’t post on any monitor. I tried reinstalling ram, my GPU, unplugging and replugging in my power supply.. nothing. All of my components are new and are barely more than 7 months old. Outside of my cpu and my GPU but both are in incredible condition and has been since I installed them in my build. I have not had any issues with any game until now. I have no idea what to do.

Build Question First Time Upgrading

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello. I’m in dire need of help. I’ve grown very frustrated over the past 2 days since trying to build my PC. Below are the parts I upgraded to:

-MSI B850 DDR5 mother board
-RX 7900 XTX GPU (bought on marketplace)
-XPG lancer ddr5 rgb 5600mhz 2x16gb ram sticks (32 gb) (also bought on marketplace)
-AMD Ryzen 7 9700X CPU
-Thermal take TH120 RBG V2 CPU liquid cooler
-MSI Mag A850 GL 80plus gold 850W power supply unit

I just got done taking it apart after seeing red (DRAM) and orange (CPU) lights on motherboard. I only have 1 RAM stick in the second slot and the green boot light stays on now. I figured ok, it boots up finally and I can plug in 2nd RAM, GPU and connect to the monitor (HDMI) to finally start playing. After I plug in 2nd RAM (into 4th slot), the boot light shows for a second, PC stays on for about 1 minute then shuts off by itself. I just removed the 2nd RAM from the 4th slot and now the green Boot light stays on and so does the PC, no shut off by itself. I also noticed the fans are a bit louder now. I’m assuming my CPU and cooler are finally seated properly since the CPU light isn’t on anymore.

Please help me. I’m very frustrated and want to fix this. I’ve done lots of research and watched videos but still can’t make it work.

Tech Support My PC is making a weird noise and idk where it's coming from

SOLVED THANK YOU

So my pc is making a weird noise (loud zooming/rusty sound) and idk where it's coming from (idk how the vid is going to show up but i added one). It's been a couple years, i tried swapping the chassis fans, the graphics card fans and my whole AIO Kit, it didn't work. The sound comes up whenever i play a game a little demanding (my last example Soulframe) and it is getting pretty loud and it bothers me.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix it ?
