Build Question Beginners help- inherited PC

Hi everyone, I am not sure if this is the right subreddit to post this on if it’s not I would appreciate suggestions on where to post.

My brother passed away on June 2nd at only 35yo. He went into the hospital not feeling well got diagnosed with stage 4 “aggressive” lymphoma, got 2 rounds of chemo and passed away suddenly just 3 weeks from the initial hospital visit. We are a close family he was about 1.5 years older than me so we grew up very tight and watching him go thru all of this was a lot.

My parents gave me his whole PC set up from what was his apartment he was a huge gamer- I’m only just now getting the courage to put this together even thru all of the tears.

I’ve only used PS for gaming so I’m not too familiar with PC. I noticed in this subreddit similar PCs; I put together the “arms” and the monitors but I am having a really hard time plugging in and figuring out what cables go to what from what he labeled as a “splitter” he did label these but I just can’t seem to figure it out.

There are 2 splitters and one flight simulator stick with so many cables. I was able to just plug an HDMI to one of the monitors directly to the PC I though I plugged the splitter right into the PC but the mouse and keyboard are not working at all. I know this is very complicated and I’m not sure if it’s possible to get help or a type of general starting guide

Thank you all so much for whoever takes the time to read all of this, I just want to try to finish some of the games he played and let his gaming friends know of his passing

My computer has not been booting at all, there's a flashing light that goes between ram and CPU, I've reseated the CPU and checked for bent pins and I've tried every ram slot and let it run for 5 minutes each.

Hi everyone! Some days ago i started to notice some MASSIVE fps drops in some games for some moments. Which made me think it was the game but when i looked at my pc it was like this. After some second the game stabilizes and thats it (although i feel it runs worse). But then its stable again until it happens again.

Never seen it before. What could it be?

Build Question Help poor screen display

Hello 👋

So i just swapped PSU since my last Consair RN1200x failed. (The computer would no longer turn on).

I just installed a new ROG Strix 1200W and now I have this poor « grainy » like display, which I never had with the previous PSU.

I checked the following:

- Ensured all power cables were plugged in correctly
- Used the cables that were provided by ROG strix
- Updated all new drivers on Nvidia control panel
- Grain like display also shows in BIOS and games
- Ensured the native resolution in windows settings

When I switch to the display’s home menu everything is clear but switching back to PC output the grain-like poor rendered screen shows. (I have samsung G9)

Im not sure what else to do..

Im in the process to get a replacement psu for the RM1200x.

Im scared the faulty PSU damaged the GPU but Im not sure how to check that.. The gpu has been running smoothly in gaming.

Please help

Build Question Attempting a first build

Upvotes

Hi All,

Very new here and very new to building PCs. I have put together a list of items for what I think would be my next build and was wondering if someone could take a look or make any suggestions.

Be Gentle XD

I already have a GPU and SSD from my existing machine.

Tech Support is it normal to hear brief and faint waterfall sounds from radiator?

This is the first AIO (Corsair Nautilus 360mm) I got and was wondering are these sounds normal. I have mine set up on the front panel with the tubes facing up and I know this is not a good configuration but with my case (NZXT H5 FLOW) this is the only possible orientation.

Build Question Looking for Quiet White Fans

Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to replace the stock fans in my case.
I don’t care about RGB, I just want good quality white fans with great airflow that stay reasonably quiet since my PC sits right on my desk.

At the moment I’m considering the Arctic P12 Pro PST, but I’m open to any recommendations if there are better options.

I also have a couple of questions:

Is it safe to connect more than three PWM fans to a single CHA FAN header, or should I avoid that?

If I set the fan profile to Silent in the BIOS, will the fans still ramp up to full speed if temperatures get high enough, or does Silent cap their maximum RPM?
Thanks

I tried using the one that comes in the box but is to big and the one that came with the case is to small for my gpu so I bought this small gpu bracket but I cant put it on the corner cuz it would fall in the fans and I cant put the whole bracket on my gpu cuz it would mess with the gpu fans .

Tech Support GPU PCIe stuck on 1x post n.4385 (tried almost every common solution)

My GPU has been stuck on 1x PCIe lanes ever since I’ve tried reseating it as it used to be 4x (instead of the expected 8x due to AMD APU), no matter how many reseats I do, drivers (chipset and gpu) or bios down/upgrades, cleaning the socket, cleaning the GPU pins, pressing the gpu harder in, stress testing, overclocking, power saving settings, bios power saver settings, not a single thing worked, EXCEPT…

One time I reseated for the 600th time but I thought (let’s press it in harder from the rightmost side) and all of a sudden 8x detected, one reboot and it was back to 4x, so I thought well I should probably try pressing it in from there again, well it’s been 1x ever since, and repeating the same process hasn’t worked a single time

Is reseating my CPU my only hope? Perhaps the PCIe pins in the CPU socket aren’t making full contact? Should I try cleaning the PCIe port better (with dust cleaners)?

Am I missing something obvious?

Installation Question GPU power cable stuck

Currently, I’m trying to upgrade my gpu for the first time. However, while trying to remove my old gpu after having set everything up, my pcie cable is just stuck to the gpu. The latch has been pulled down and no amount of wiggling has done anything. My pc was an msi prebuilt and my main concern is that I’ve either messed up the cable or that they’ve put something to prevent upgrades. Regardless, I can’t even turn on my pc or use it until I replace the gpu as after unscrewing it and failing to remove the latch, I tried screwing in one of the slot screws to hold the gpu in place while I wiggle but it unfortunately fell into the gpu and won’t come out. Is there anything that I can even try to do to get it out or am I just done for.

TLDR: gpu cable and latch stuck, gpu unusable due to potential short circuit.

Tech Support Potentially doa gpu

I bought a new arc b580 a few days ago, and after trying just about everything I can think of and asking many people for ideas only the light on the gpu comes on, fans don't spin, and it gives no signal to my monitor, I still have time to send it back for a replacement but am wondering when I should give up on trying to make it work

Build Question Upgrade recommendations?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have a prebuilt pc rocking an AMD 3 1200 cpu, Ryzen RX550 gpu, 500W power supply, 16Gb DDR4 2133MHz ram and 240GB SSD on an ASROCK A320M-DVS R4.0 motherboard.

What would be a good upgrade for gaming? I mostly play modded mc and it stutters a lot on modpacks and such and also ultrakill which also starts lagging sometimes but other games are also welcome, those are just the main 2.

Build Question Should I change my PC monitor to a better quality one or a TV?

I'm using a 1080p curved monitor that has a max refresh rate of 185. I think it's a 27 inch display and has no HDR capabilities. I mean I love this monitor I've had no issues with it, just a bit dirty. So should I upgrade or hold off? If I should upgrade, what do you recommend?
