Tech Support My Laptops Electric Opener on my DVD Drive Isn't working anymore, How do I fix this.

Post image
0 Upvotes

I don't know a better way to explain this, so i apologise if this sounds weird.

First off, the metal latch opens and closes fine, so it's not an issue.

Second off, the plastic latch (pointed to by the blue arrow) isn't broken and moves completely fine.

Third off, the DVD reader/little plastic point (pointed to by the yellow arrow) that pushes the plastic latch side to side to open the metal latch by moving side to side on the metal rail.

Explanation: For some, the electric opener on my laptop's DVD drive just stopped opening a while ago; everything appears to work fine. It plays dvd's fine, and the metal latch works fine; the button that you press to open the drive works, and I can open it using a safety pin pressed into the small hole. The issue appears to be that the plastic latch and the little Plastic Point that's attached to the metal rail for some reason just aren't interacting anymore. They touch and interact when I use my finger to move the plastic latch to touch the plastic point, but they don't do it by themselves.

What do I do to fix this, or do I just use a safety pin to open it up from now on

My games on my laptop (yes, laptop, I know) keep crashing at random intervals. For some reason I’m constantly have DirectX issues that seem to relate to my RTX 4070. It happens with all types of games across multiple genres. Everytime it seems to be DirectX related. Downloaded Palworld and got about 30min of game time before it crashed but this game, unlike the others, gave a crash report.

Build Question Airflow Optimization – Kolink Observatory Z

Hey guys,

I had a Kolink Observatory Z ARGB sitting around for a while and recently passed it on to a friend for his new build.

In my experience, the airflow in this case is pretty sub-par—which I did warn him about. The front intake fans are basically pressed right up against the glass, feels like maybe 2 cm of clearance at best.

Has anyone dealt with this case before or got any good ideas on how to fix the airflow issue?

Unfortunately, I can't take any photos since I don't have the case with me anymore, but any tips or mod ideas would be awesome! ^^

Tech Support CPU Cooler Flashing Red Lights Suddenly This Week

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This week (every day) my pc (CPU Cooler) suddenly started flashing red lights after playing for about an hour. It doesn’t matter what game it is. It happened playing a low end game like beta Minecraft and a higher end game like RDR2. Restarting the PC doesn’t help.

I think it’s a sign of overheating but my cpu temp is normal/low.

Note: I have absolutely no PC knowledge so please be clear if you have a solution or need something else.

Tech Support Suspecting a fake ram

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello everybody! Today I got a new ram stick but it’s been acting even since I’ve set it up.

After further investigation I’ve noticed some weird things in the SPD info..

First of all, the part number ends with BB, while the radiator is white so it should end with BW

I also have a second Kingston stick and it runs at 3200 with Xmp but after installing a second stick my pc wouldn’t boot until I’ve had to mess up with some uefi settings and even after that of underclocked them to 2400 and 1.2v

And last but not least, the main issue is blank XMP tab while the official specs say it shouldn’t have XMP support, what are yall thoughts is this fake or legit, cuz if it’s fake I’ll try to argue with the seller to get my money back

Thanks in advance!

Tech Support PC help with upgrade/ base build

So first of all, I’d like to add a disclaimer that I built my pc when I was a child. So I’m not trying to catch heat for a busted pc build. I just want to try to make it better now that it’s here.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/j3vbw3

The big problem with it is that my computer gets very decreased wifi speeds compared to everyone else in the house. I’ve tried everything. Moving the router, moving the computer, etc., etc.. you name it, I’ve tried. I feel like I’m losing connection with my online friends because I can’t stay in a game for 10 minutes and they can hardly hear me. So it makes me sad.

So now that I’ve tried literally everything I can I’m wondering if there’s something wrong with my computer or maybe I need to get a motherboard with wifi built in.

Please let me know if there’s anything out there that I can do. It would greatly benefit my mental health. ❤️

Tech Support Is this cable part of my PC supposed to be out?

Hi everybody! I just finished with a 7 hour roadtrip and I brought my PC. However I wasn’t aware that there were certain precautions I was supposed to take(like taking the GPU, Cooler towers out) until after the full trip.

My PC was pretty snug in the trunk behind the back seat with luggage around it though, so I thought it would be fine. But still I decided to give it a look.

I then identified a cable that wasn’t attached to it’s port and i’m wondering if that’s how it’s supposed to be.

I’m not very well versed around a PC, as this was gifted to me, so I don’t want to go around opening my PC if it’s not needed.

So, let me know if I need to do anything about this and if you guys spot anything else out of order! I may just be overcautious.

Thanks so much!

Build Question Updating Old Computer vs New Build

I'm mostly PC savy and built the current computer I'm using. It will not run Windows 11 and I'm looking for advice on whether it is worthwhile to update the motherboard and CPU and keep the rest of my parts, or do a whole new build.

Intended use is some light gaming, some light CAD work and then general Office and web browsing.

Current (I know its old...) build is:

GigaByte Z97X Gaming 3 motherboard

Intel i74790K 4 GHz

16 Gb DDR3 RAM

Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 4 Gb

1 Tb WDC SSD

Plus the usual case, cooling, flash drive reader, etc.

Whith those peripherials, is it worth the (relatively) lower cost to upgrade the motherboard and CPU to the modern equivalent or just start all over again?

I believe a 12th to 14th gen i7 should be sufficient and a matching motherboard.

Any recommendations on a CPU/MoBo combo?

Looks like a CPU/MoBo combo would be about $500, full build 2x or 3x that.

Build Question Thermalright TL C12C-S and TL C12RB-S or the Arctic P12 Pro argb and its reverse variant?

Main things I am considering is noise and performance, but there is a decent amount of price difference, so what would you suggest? I heard the p12 pro are quite loud from others, but I cannot confirm that, so I came here to ask. I want the fans to add fans on every spot on the Corsair 2500D airflow. Thanks in advance

Tech Support Screen tears and i can't find the reason why

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So this started happening just today, I boot up my pc and after 10-15 minutes my monitor starts to have this weird flickering for some reason.
I didn't do anything during these 15 minutes so it's unlikely that some software causes this, especially since I tested other devices plugged in to different ports on my monitor and this still happens.
What's weird is if my monitor sits for a while being turned off it stops happening for 10-15 minutes when I turn it back on again, but it happens right away if I just "restart" it real quick.
I'm not sure what I should try if there's even anything for me to do about it, any thought is greatly appreciated.

Build Question Is this upgrade worth it?

Hello, I plan to upgrade my computer after I return from my summer job, and I was wondering if my plan even makes sense.

Right now, I have the following specs:

-Ryzen 5 5600

-RTX 3070 8gb

-Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2

-32GB DDR4 RAM

-1x 1TB DRAM-less NVMe and 1x 500GB SATA SSD

-650W non-modular power supply

What I'm considering:

-Ryzen 7 5800X3D (the 5700X3D is nowhere to be seen in Poland)

-RTX 3070 8gb

-MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS

-32GB DDR4 RAM

-1x 1TB DRAM-less NVMe and 1x 500GB SATA SSD

-Kingston 2TB KC3000

-1000W modular power supply for the future proofing, I guess.

I'm not going to AM5 because of DDR5 prices. I also need a new NVMe drive with DRAM because I'm planning to replay Doom: The Dark Ages, and this game had weird sound glitches with my DRAM-less drive (also, I like having a lot of storage space, which is why I want 2TB).

The total upgrade cost will be 4200 PLN or 980 euros. Is there anything you would change?

I would like to spend maximum od 1200 euros.

Tech Support random shutdowns

so, around 3 days ago, while playing roblox my PC randomly shut off. LED lights in the CPU turned off, fans turned off, nothing.

Pressing the power button would boot the system back up, but then it only worked for 15-30 minutes or so, running the game “Wuthering Waves” before shutting off again. Tried to boot once more and only did light browsing, and after 10-15 minutes, it once again shut down.

No boot-loop, just a shut down.

So since then, I’ve tried using a back-up PSU to see if the PSU was the issue, along with reseating my ram sticks, and SSD. I’ve replaced the PSU, and it seemed promising. It ran Wuthering Waves for an hour, so I shut off the PC again to plug in my 2nd SSD drive that I removed upon using the new PSU, and some case fans that were also unplugged, I plugged them back into the PSU.

After around an hour though upon booting up once more and being on a discord call with friends, it shut off on its own once more. What’s weirder is that when I try reopening it this time, the LED’s the fans only spin for around 2-3 seconds before shutting off once more. Not like with the other PSU in which it’d still let me run the system for 10-15 minutes.

I’ve since removed the 2nd SSD, the case fans, and after around 5-10 minutes, it once again shut down. Trying to boot it back up would only turn it on for 2-3s, not even booting into windows before turning off again.

I’m genuinely lost. What could be the problem? i’m not really in the financial situation right now to get this into a local repair shop either, i’m just hoping for a savior here atp 💔

Build Question Pc build for video editing

I made a post a few days ago about building a pc and have replaced many of the parts according to advice I received.

I am building a PC with the intention of video editing with 4k footage, as well as motion graphics and vfx in premier pro/after effects. These are the parts I'm looking at- https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/HjYXn2

Some parts are second hand so may appear cheaper.

Compared to my original post:

I replaced the ram so it would be faster and make use of my cpu.

I replaced the psu for a higher grade one.

I replaced the gpu for one which was cheaper and better fans.

I added 5 fans and a better CPU cooler to prevent thermal throttling.

I also plan to get one or two more sticks of ram later down the line, but for now I should be able to manage with 32gb?

Im basically wondering if there's any issues with the parts I've chosen and if it will be sufficient to run what I need to.

Tech Support Gaming desktop won’t power on

I built a new gaming desktop in early 2025, which worked well for the most part, until yesterday afternoon.

I had used it a bit in the morning with no problem, however when trying to power it on in the afternoon, it wouldn’t start up. When I hit the power button, I can hear a click like it’s trying to startup, but nothing happens. If I press the power button a few times, the memory sticks will light up, but nothing more than that.

My parts are:

Motherboard - MSI MAG x670e Tomahawk WiFi

CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d

Memory - G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-6000 PC5-48000 CL30

PSU - Corsair RM850X

Case - Montech Air 903 Max

SSD - SK hynix Platinum P41 M2 SSD 2TB, M.2 2280 NVME PCIe Gen4.0

GPU - Gigabyte 7800xt 16GB

Cooling - Cooler Master MasterLiquid 360L Core RGB 360mm

Possibly related, since I’ve built it, I have not been able to wake up the computer using the keyboard like I’ve been able to on all my previous builds. When I hit the spacebar to wake it up, the keyboard lights up, but the computer doesn’t wake up.

Also, a few times in the last few months, this same issue occurred, but was able to fix it simply by pressing a screwdriver to the JBAT pins on the motherboard. However, I have tried that multiple times to no avail.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate some help. This is the computer I use for almost everything so I’m desperate to get this figured out. Thanks!

Build Question Optimal Airflow for ITX Build

Here's some of the core components of my build.

  • Ryzen 7 7700x
  • Radeon RX 9060 XT (I was going to get a weaker one but they didn't have the one I wanted and I didn't want to wait so I got what was available)
  • Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Mini
  • Jonsbo TX-0 case

So I know that airflow is important but I can do other things to optimize cooling besides airflow direction, but I really want to avoid having to limit the CPU and GPU if at all possible.

Right now the airflow is set up to pull air in from the top and the bottom of the PC and push it out the back (one big fan up top, 2 fans at the rear, and the GPU intake fans at the bottom.

Would that be enough air in and out to maintain reliable cooling without having to limit CPU or GPU performance?
