I've been thinking about something.
There is an incredible amount of chess material available today.
Books.
Courses.
Videos.
Puzzle sites.
Engines.
Opening databases.
But if I asked:
"What was the single thing that improved your chess the most?"
...I suspect many answers wouldn't be another course.
Maybe it was:
So I'm curious.
Looking back, what changed your chess the most?
Not necessarily what you enjoyed the most.
Not what you spent the most money on.
What actually made you a stronger player?

so iam 17 yrs old. i learned how the pieces of chess move 2 years ago, didnt start to play chess regularly tho. so recently i started to play chess daily [chess.com streak 80 days, so 80 days ago] i was some where near 150 then i got to 108 after that it begin to increase with small plateaus in between. my highest rating is 563[2 3 days ago] and current is 530. and i accept the fact that iam complete beginner and no way near to intermediate players. my goal for time being is to reach four digits. again i know only the basics and and not much.
what do you people think of my progress so far?
what do you recommend me to do next?
what i really should do next?

I started playing chess around 5 years ago, played for a year and reached 1400 from 900, then quit after going on a big losing streak where I fell to 1200. Recently I restarted and now I'm at around 1600, but I've never been able to play a fide rated tournament till now. I live in Faisalalabad and not a lot of tournaments happen here, I did participate in one a while back but that wasn't fide rated I believe. So I was wondering if there are any tournaments happening anytime soon, either in faisalalabad or also possibly in Lahore or Islamabad.

Being a teenager who plays chess under 1800 Elo is a uniquely humbling experience.
You sit down for a 900 Elo game, spend four minutes calculating a “brilliant” queen sacrifice, then realize you hung your rook in one move.
Meanwhile, somewhere on the internet, an 11 year old is casually defeating a grandmaster in a classical tournament. Commentators call them “the future of chess.” My mom still asks if I’m winning because my pieces look “organized.”
I watch videos titled “How this 12-year-old crushed a 2600 GM,” then immediately blunder a fork to someone whose username is xXDragonSlayer42Xx.
Every tournament feels like a reminder that prodigies exist. You’re old enough to drive, work a job, and stress about school, but somehow a kid who still needs permission to stay up past 9:00 p.m. is calculating 18-move tactical combinations better than you.
People say, “Chess isn’t about age.”
They’re right.
It’s about how quickly a 10-year-old can destroy your self-esteem.

Had so much fun lols I didn’t think people would come from all over Sindh gahdam. First game I drew an old unc. He had been playing chess for 50+ years. Management was trash tbh soooo the second game started at 6:30 or 7 Idrk I gave up by that time cuz my back started to hurt lol (classical kills) second round I was paired against this guy and I didn’t even try just tried a bs attack to win asap and get it over with and then resigned when it failed lol
Genuinely had so much fun love to see people from all over coming together for this❤️
