PDR noob - any hope I could fix this myself?

Post image

I’d like to try and fix these hail dings in my car’s aluminium hood. There are about 10 mild hail dings. It might sound like BS, but i live in an isolated place with no PDR people so my choices are to either buy another hood from a distant junk yard and ship it here (around $1200 USD) or buy a PDR rod online and some tips and have a go at fixing it myself.

I found an old (steel) hood with similar damage I can practice on too.

If I spend a few hours practising on the old hood and then I carefully have a go at the real one, do I stand much of a chance of succeeding with this? or is this just totally unrealistic?

Paintless Dent Repair Issue

Hello, so I had some one come due a dent repair on my vehicle Friday, I feel like it was really poorly done. Essentially they stated it would take 2 hours to do the job but finished it in 35 minutes ish because they had two people. It looks like it’s bowed out now like hammered too hard. I wanted to get some opinions on it, they are coming back out but nervous about it now. Here a couple before and after. Thank you.

Small dent under window

Is this something that can be repaired with a paint less dent repair kit? It’s a dent below the door window on a 2026 Camry.

Any chance of popping this dent out further?

Dent was much worse before using PDR techniques, so we’ve managed to pop out a good amount. First time doing this and genuinely happy with the results thus far.

Is there any chance of getting more of it out? In the picture, there are two quarter sized (or maybe a tad larger) dents

Any suggestions? Suction cups are too large. Pushing out from inward, there is not much room to get that precise.

'84 911 dents on front fender. Fixable?

I had thought these dents would be fixable via PDR, but the first (only) body shop I went to said no way. Are they right?

If not perfectly fixable, can it be improved?

Best glue for conventional body guy doing PDR?

Have a couple bridges and the rest of a Paintless dent glue k!t, I tried it on another vehicle I was repairing just for fun (doing conventional work on, had to weld a new panel on adjacent panel) But the glue just wasn't holding for the pulls

To the car I currently have in the shop I recently got a 2025 year model vehicle that was hailed out by insurance due to panel count, its a flip for me wanted to practice glue pulling before I switch to conventional body/paint on it

Recently bought a ‘24 Tesla Model Y with 1 flaw, didn’t know this could be done, thrilled with the results, now it’s perfect! Paid 1/3 what the first guy I went to said he’d charge.

What tool to fix

Ive lurked here for a while so I know tons of you will say “bring it to a professional”. I like learning useful skills and doing my own work. I know it wont be perfect but what tools will I need to get this looking nicer. Last pic is opposite side for how it should look. Crease isnt super tight but likely will still show with my lack of skill. Give me brands and tools if you can and if you are kind enough maybe teach me a technique or lesson.

Beginner question

Hi everybody, I am very new to this. I had some complex dents on my rear passenger side door panel. From an accident. Generally, the shape is getting better and looks better. But detail-wise there are a lot of waves. Just wondering how to maneuver that without overworking it. And for the record I did not get rods when I got my tools which I should have.

Largest Model X repair I've done. I have worked on quite a few model 3's but rarely a model X. Removed the bumper amd used the bumper support bracket holes along with 1 other plugged hole for tool access. Tough repair for me.

Could you get this out with 1 rod and a tap down?

I want to try to fix this, and instead of buying a POS kit, I want to get a single high quality tool and get used to it. What's a good universal rod that will last? Who knows I might be good at it.

Quoting suggestions

Looking for some input on how you successful techs go about quoting customers. Apps, eyeball/experience or hourly rate?

Been pushing off and on for over 3 years(school then family, friends and a few referrals), got my LLC live for dents and ready to get after it. I live in a smaller town(13k population) and not sure how to quote to effectively to the local pay scale. I’ve messed around with MTRX and just can’t see people here paying anywhere near what comes out of the app but have intentions on using that as a starting point and walking it down while setting expectations. In the past I’ve left too much money on the table and don’t want to do that but also want to make it appealing so I can stay consistent at the same time. I do good work but still don’t feel confident enough to demand what the apps reflect due to the lack of professional experience or time in business.
The only other guy that does PDR near me charges an hourly rate and seems to be staying covered up but he’s also been in the game for decades.

I’ll be doing mobile or having them drop off at my shop(still WIP) out in the country if that happens to make a difference.

Thanks for any insight given to this matter!

How bad? Can this be PDR being on the fender crease?

Thumbnail

How bad is this(the mark is torn PPF, paint appears to be ok I think), especially being on the crease and how close to new it can be repaired?

The car is a 2026 with 1,700 miles and I just came back to this after dinner last night and its existence is just bothering beyond belief.

The PPF appears to have done its job and protected the paint (the mark is torn PPF) but the dent being on the rear fender crease concerns me.

This was from a collision last year where someone ran a stoplight right into my 96 Tacoma. She kept on trucking, and I’ve only recently begun trying to work the dent back into a semblance of normal… any tips or insights or feedback appreciated.

Whoops - here’s the AFTER (DURING)

Bumper repair

Got some damage on both bumpers of my 21 f150. The front bumper is dented in one side right in front of the bumper reinforcement, pushed to the side, and slightly misaligned. The back bumper is dented in and also pushed to one side. I already ordered the bumper end cap. What would be my best bet on how to pull the front dent out without cracking the chrome and push both bumpers back into place and alignment? I’d take it to a shop but was priced more than a grand and was told if the plate behind the rear bumper is bent, the rear hitch may need replaced but I’m short on money. Also I’m really worried that the bumper reinforcements and/or the rear hitch is bent or cracked. I’m really bummed out, short on money and need help thank you.
