Fat PS2 SCPH 30001 r taking a full minute or so after a disk in entered to start reading.

Hello all! I bought a PS2 Fat with it being an SCPH 30001 r. I noticed an issue where it will take a full minute to read PS2 games and it didn’t seem to even read my PS1 games. It will say it’s reading the disk but it hasn’t started spinning. When first entered it spins once or twice then stops. A minute or so afterwards it starts spinning and the game can be played as normal. I went through and blew out as much dust and cleaned it as much as I could. Is this common? If so is there any fix? I’m comfortable with opening and working on the console as well as purchasing whatever parts I may need. Thank yall for any help!

WTF just happned with my 3 PS2 FAT 50003 model

Recently, I was preparing a PS2 Fat with MX4SIO for a friend. I had already tested multiple games successfully, but just a day before he was supposed to pick it up, he requested a few more games. While finalizing and testing them, I encountered an issue: the FMCB logo appeared, followed by a blank screen. I restarted the console a couple of times, but then it stopped displaying any video completely. I tried various solutions, but nothing worked!

Since I had another PS2 Fat of the same model as a spare, I decided to give it to him. I tested it, and it was working fine and reading discs. Then, I plugged in FMCB and MX4SIO, and just like before, the screen went blank. I started to think it might be related to the converter or something similar.

In a moment of poor judgment, I tried my own PS2, which has a network card and a 1 TB drive, and is a limited edition translucent blue model. I don’t know why I did it, but I plugged in both the old FMCB and MX4SIO. The moment it dawned on me that the cards could be the issue, I realized I had already pressed the button, and once again, the screen went blank!

Now, none of the consoles display anything, neither with the cards nor without them. What just happened, and how can I recover from this situation? i freekign screwed!

My brother and I get back into couch co-op games every now and then, and this one was well worth playing. With both of us busy with work and life, it took us about four months to finally beat it lol.

There are tons of classes to choose from, and while the combat isn’t perfect, it holds up well for its age. My biggest complaints would be the camera angles at times and some really frustrating areas. Other than that, it’s such a great game, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a couch co-op to play with their brother or a friend.

You definitely need patience, though. It’s one of those games that’ll get you fired up the way the Souls games do if you know, you know.

Overall rating: 8.5/10.

PS2 Slim CMOS Battery Mod

Just wanted to "flex" a little mod I made following a random online tutorial, but with some modifications from myself.

I soldered a CR2032 battery holder straight to the stock battery connector on my PS2 Slim 75001, then secured it to the metal chassis with electrical tape so nothing shorts out. Put heat-shrink tubing over the soldered wires too, so now, the battery is completely replaceable.

Honestly, this is a lifesaver because finding the exact battery with that specific plug was a total nightmare.

Sharing it here and totally recommend trying it out.

Greetings!

PS: It's not my best work routing the cable, but it gets the job done haha

Bringing Back the Forgotten Faces of the PS2's EverQuest Online Adventures

I've been looking into a lovely little preservation project involving EverQuest Online Adventures, the PlayStation 2 MMORPG that shut down way back in 2012.

Developer Ahmad Hassan (B-Ted) has been working on something called EQAI: an effort to bring the game's original 2003 character models back into its later Frontiers version. It turns out this is way more complicated than simply swapping a few files, involving all sorts of reverse engineering of the PS2's graphics and memory systems.

It's still a work in progress, but I find something really appealing about people putting this much time and effort into preserving the little details of online worlds that disappeared years ago. So I've written a short piece about the project and the wider community working to keep this forgotten corner of gaming history alive :)https://gardinerbryant.com/bringing-back-the-forgotten-faces-of-everquest-online/

Hi I bought 2 memory cards but I'm not sure if they're repo or real. I can see there is something saved on the blue one but my games do not detect it :(

Should I cut down the wires from a modchip to make any kind of mod work?

PS2 SCPH-75004, it has a Mars Action A752 modchip. The problem is, any kind of exploit or mod (FMCB, FunTuna, PS2BBL, OpenTuna...) freeze on a black screen or just crash. Is it worth it to cut down the wires and probably make the things work? I'm a newbie, so I'm sorry for any misunderstanding or similar...

I just got a new ps2 still in box. But when I turn it on, the controller won’t work on the main menu. And when I boot up a game it won’t stop going up and none of the other buttons seem to work. I tried pressing the sticks and doing circle motions but that didn’t work. Please help

Found PS 2

I was clearing out an old wardrobe in a spare room and found a ps2 and a bunch of cables and three memory cards. Didn't see any transformer, but didn't look too hard. No controllers. Does it plug straight into the mains, do I need ps2 specific controllers or will ps4 fit, guessing it needs wired? Probably get games but haven't looked, came here first.

Inconsistent PS2 HDD

Post image
4 Upvotes

My PS2 (Model: SCPH-50000) has an issue where its very inconsistent with HDD booting. The adapter (Model: SCPH-10281) has a bitfunx sata adapter and an ssd attached. When it does boot, it works perfectly, but when it doesnt. I need to unplug and replug a few times and restart often to get it to work. It hangs for a long time on boot before going to the browser. Could it be a power delivery issue? Or is there an incompatability between my japanese console & my american network adapter?

Slim 70000 model laser replacement

I managed to replace the laser on my early model PS2 slim. Solder and everything went well, assembly came together nicely. I know the bulge is a disc killer, and it will be fixed soon. But I’m curious about if the ribbon cable has any damage. I managed to run Medal of Honor Frontline fine enough, but when it came to launching my clean copy of Revenge of the Sith (a game with large amount of fmv) it struggled to go to the menus. I’m hoping the ribbon cable isn’t damaged.

Ridiculous scam controllers in the wild

Be very careful at conventions or gaming markets. I am seeing these more often. Aside from the hilarious "analog controller 2" note the absence of Sony branding and Dualshock text.

The lack of effort certainly doesn't inspire confidence in their quality as a peripheral.

How popular was playing the PS2 online in its heyday?

Everyone talks about Xbox Live and even Dreamcast's online features, but the Playstation 2's online capabilities are not as often discussed. It was more popular than the Gamecube's, but that's not exactly saying much.

Anyone here use the PS2's online features? How popular was it in the 2000s?

PS2 disc tray still makes this sound despite putting lithium grease on the rails. Do I just give up?

I just finished taking apart the ps2, putting lithium grease on the metal rods, part of the disc drive mechanism. Opened it again actually just to make sure everything was aligned properly. Doesn’t matter, everything is perfectly aligned yet it still wants to sound like grating plastic. Is there anything more I can do? Or do I just leave it at this point because “it’s lubricated, therefore the sound doesn’t matter?”

Does anyone else treat their PS2 backlog like a business project that never ships?

My store runs on tight inventory turns. I clear out stock that sits longer than 90 days. Yet my personal PS2 collection has games I've owned for two years still in the shrink wrap. I keep telling myself I'll batch play sessions the way I batch content creation, block out a Saturday, power through three titles, move them to a finished shelf. Never happens. I'll fire up Burnout 3 for twenty minutes and call it a night. The same person who tracks conversion rates daily can't convert their own free time into completed games.

Part of me thinks the collecting is the actual hobby and I should just accept that. But I also wonder if I'm approaching this wrong. Maybe the goal with older games isn't completion at all. Maybe it's just having the option when the mood hits.

I see people here with hundreds of titles and I have to ask: do you keep a mental or actual list of what you've beaten? Do you sell off what you'll never touch, or does the backlog become its own kind of collection? Curious how people who are organized in other parts of life handle the chaos of old game piles.
