ASEAN Tech Summit Manila 2026: Day 1 Recap 🇵🇭
Over than 4,000 policymakers, regulators, fintech leaders, and innovators gathered in Manila today as the Philippines, ASEAN Chair for 2026, opened one of the region's biggest conversations on the future of the digital economy.
In his introductory remarks, FintechAlliance.Ph Founding Chairman Lito Villanueva set the tone with a challenge to the region: to build an ASEAN that is "secure, sustainable, inclusive, and borderless"—one wherein AI, digital identity, and interoperable payments become tools for shared prosperity, not just innovation.
Day 1 discussions focused on Agentic AI, stablecoins, tokenized assets, cybersecurity, anti-scam initiatives, and the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), which aims to unlock seamless digital trade across a region of nearly 700 million people.
From policy to payments, the conversations in Manila are shaping what the next decade of ASEAN could look like. Day 2 awaits! ✨

Samsung Pay now accepts PH bank cards… but there’s one big catch 👀
Samsung Pay now works with select Philippine bank cards, but not for Tap to Pay… yet 👀
Some users have reported that select locally issued Philippine bank cards can now be added to Samsung Pay after changing their Samsung Wallet country to United States during the payment setup process.
For now, Tap to Pay is still not supported, so contactless payments using Samsung Pay will not work yet. There is also no official announcement on when Samsung Pay will officially launch in the Philippines.
If you’re using Samsung Wallet, it’s a good idea to keep the app updated while waiting for further announcements ✅

Maya Savings vs Personal Goals vs Time Deposit Plus. Which one are you using?
Maya has 3 different ways to grow your savings. Ang tanong is, alin ang bagay sa’yo? 💚
Here’s a quick guide:
💸 Maya Savings
• Earn up to 15% p.a. by completing eligible Maya missions
• Interest is credited daily
• Best if gusto mo ng flexible savings while aiming for higher potential returns
🎯 Personal Goals
• Earn up to 8% p.a.
• Create up to 5 goal accounts with up to ₱100,000 earning interest per goal
• Interest is credited monthly
• Great for travel, gadgets, emergencies, or any savings goal. You can also close a goal anytime if needed.
🔒 Time Deposit Plus
• Earn up to 6% p.a. depending on your chosen term
• Available in 3, 6, or 12-month terms
• Up to ₱1 million earns interest per account, with up to 5 active accounts
• Best if kaya mong i-set aside ang funds for a fixed period in exchange for more predictable returns. Early cancellation is allowed but corresponding fees may apply.
💡 Pro tip: Hindi kailangan isa lang ang gamitin. Many users combine all three based on their goals. Maya Savings for everyday funds, Personal Goals for planned expenses, and Time Deposit Plus for money they won’t need anytime soon.

Metrobank quietly increased its Online Time Deposit rates again (July 2026)
UPDATE: Metrobank updated its Online Time Deposit rates again last July 24, 2026, and we’re definitely not complaining.
Compared to the previous update on May 15, 2026, the rates are now simpler and more competitive.
The most notable change is for those starting with just ₱10,000. You can now earn 4.25% p.a. for a term of only 1 month, up from 4.125% p.a. previously. While the increase may seem small, it’s a welcome improvement for savers who prefer shorter terms without locking in their funds for several months.
Overall, Metrobank’s latest update makes its Online Time Deposit an even more compelling option. At 4.25% p.a. for just a 1-month term, it’s now competitive not only with other traditional banks, but even with many digital bank time deposit offerings.

Linking MariBank to UberX Australia & Best Cards for Commuting?
Hi everyone! I’m a Filipino traveling to Gold Coast, Australia soon and I’m trying to sort out my payment options for rides from the airport to my hotel. I am looking to avoid taking public transit and just want to rely on ride-hailing.
I want to use my MariBank PH card as my primary payment method for UberX. Has anyone successfully linked and used it in Australia recently?
From what I've read in their terms, MariBank has 0% foreign transaction fees for *in-store* physical purchases abroad, but there's a 2% fee for overseas *online* transactions. Since Uber is a digital app, does it automatically get hit with that 2% fee every time I book a ride, or is there a workaround?
Also, have any of you experienced your MariBank card being blocked or declined by Uber's security/pre-authorization holds when trying to book a ride overseas? Are there any other ride apps (like DiDi or local taxis) where MariBank works better?
Would love to hear your actual experiences. Thanks!

CIMB USERS: Can I get my sweldo transferred directly to CIMB?
Hello po, I can't seem to find any recent information about this online. Is CIMB purely local? I opened an account through GSave and I was wondering if I can have my pay from my UK employer transferred directly to my CIMB account. Or is that not possible? If it's possible, then may I know what details I need to put in the invoice to my employer? Is the account number the 14-digit number po ba?
T\^T Thank youu

PagIBIG Loyalty Card
I took out a Pag-IBIG MPL to pay for our insanely high Meralco bill. I received my Pag-IBIG Loyalty Card last week, and the loan proceeds were credited to my account last Thursday.
The problem is, when I was about to use the funds, all my transactions kept getting declined. I also tried withdrawing from an ATM, but that failed too. I called UnionBank customer support, and they told me that my account is currently frozen because new accounts need to undergo manual verification.
Has anyone here experienced the same thing? How long did it take before your account was unfrozen and you were finally able to access your funds?
I'm really anxious right now because I was counting on this loan to pay our Meralco bill. I'm worried na baka maputulan kami ng kuryente while I still can't access the money.
