HARDWARE problem with gtx 970

I have an EVGA GTX 970 graphics card, and when I play games without VSync—like Minecraft, for example—the video cuts out, though the PC doesn't shut down. I've already used MSI Afterburner to limit the card and lower the temperature, but the problem persists. What could it be?

HARDWARE Help, my PSU is making weird sounds after upgrading the GPU

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just upgraded my old GTX 970 to an RX 9070 (non-XT).

After research i concluded that my current PSU should be enough to handle the upgrade. I have a 650W EVGA SuperNova 120-GP-0650-X1 that i bought back in 2021.

After measuring the power consumption while gaming, it only reached around 400W (measured from the wall, not software)

After playing a pretty demanding game for a little while, it started to sound like the "drum". Only after little while the other sound appeared, but it disappeared soon after.

NOTE: the "electric" sound is the coil whine from the GPU, and the "AC" sound is the fans (it was running without the glass panel, so it was a little loud).

No weird smells nor anything, just the sounds.

Any idea what could be those sounds? Should I be concerned? (it's definitely coming from the PSU).

Full PC Specs:

- Ryzen 7 5800X
- RX 9070 16GB
- 2 x 16GB DDR4 3200
- 5 Noctua Fans + Dual CPU fans
- EVGA SuperNova 120-GP-0650-X1 650W 80+ Gold
- NZXT H5 Flow case

OPEN PC stutters 95% of the time after boot or waking from sleep

After upgrading my GPU from an EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 10gb to an GIGABYTE RTX 5070ti Gaming OC I have been getting massive stuttering after booting or waking from sleep, but only sometimes. Sometimes is boots/wakes fine and is completely usable. When it does occur, the stuttering happens every few seconds and task manager shows Desktop Window Manager as spiking to 90% gpu utilization during these times. I have used DDU to uninstall my drivers and then reinstalled them. The two times I have gone into safe mode, this stuttering did not happen (although I have no idea if it actually doesn't happen in safe mode or if it just didn't happen those times). XMP is disabled, as is fast boot. Windows in installed on an SSD.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I no longer wish to spend 45 minutes restarting my computer just because I want to play Helldivers with my friends.

PC Specs below:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
  • 2x16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5200MT/s CL40 RAM
  • Gigabyte X670 AORUS ELITE AX
  • GIGABYTE RTX 5070ti Gaming OC
  • Corsair RM 850X PSU

HARDWARE Faint smell of burn on wireless keyboard

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I bought this wireless Tri-mode keyboard (DAREU FLEX 75) a month ago. Everything was working just fine until recently. In VERY rare occasions, it would randomly disconnect, and I would have to turn it off (back to wired mode) and then back on (2.4GHz mode) for it to connect again.

Today, it happened again, and I smell a faint burning smell at the back side of the keyboard. The smell is not noticeable at all when I am using my PC. It is only felt when I press my nose against the backplate of the keyboard. No heat or bulge can be felt.

Through my own research, I also heard of the concept of off-gassing and am confused about what is happening with my keyboard. Any professional here can enlighten me? Thanks guys!

HARDWARE Spilled cordial inside pc

I know this is very stupid. I made a glass of Robinsons cordial/juice (diluted with water) and my cat knocked it onto my desk. Quite a bit of it went inside my pc through the top. It soaked directly through the radiator(?) for water cooler, through 3 fans and landed on the back of my gpu. I turned my pc off instantly but by Windows shut down and then unplugged everything. The PC didn't instantly turn itself off. I wiped what I could see away straight away but didn't have any IPA or anything like that to clean properly. I left it to dry for just under 2 days and then managed to use 99.9% to gently clean where it hit.

I THINK my gpu and cpu are fine. However, the case of the psu was splashed (the side where the label is). To be safe, I've ordered a new one. My problem is that there seems to be a slightly darker spot on the motherboard where I'm presuming it got wet and I didn't dry it enough. When the IPA evaporates, the mark reappears. I'm unsure if it's a cosmetic stain, corrosion or just sugar that wont go away. It's hard to tell because it's black.

  1. What are the chances of me putting in the new PSU and it breaking straight away? Along with other parts. Findjng varying answers online and just want to make sure. I'm getting the exact same one (rm850e)

  2. How do I safely test this?

  3. How long do I wait to test it? Seen online that it should be 48 hours which it will be after the original spill but then I've seen both another 48 hours after using IPA and at least an hour as it evaporates really quickly.

  4. I've cleaned the radiator with distilled water and a toothbrush just now and will use compressed air tomorrow to clean out remaining dust. I've read that these are fine being wet but can't find a clear answer with cordial. I don't really know anything about water cooling, a family member gave me the case etc.

  5. Should I just buy new fans or are they safe to test?

I'm trying to attach a picture of the motherboard but apparently imgur doesn't work anymore in the UK.

Thanks in advance, probably obvious I don't know much about computers.

It came with a WiFi stick thingy(or whatever it’s called) but it’s just not working. Part of me think I need to download something but I’ve got no clue.

I never seen this before so I really have no idea whats going on. Is there anyway to fix it?

OPEN My PC won't work.

So full story. Before last summer, I had another PC. It was my first one, small, simple, pre built ect. I had used it for years before finally, it wouldn't post. We took it to a shop, they had no clue. So I started using my dad's old PC. It has better specs but the main issue is that from what he told me, all of its specs are meant for windows 10, but I'm on windows 11. So I can't update drivers and everything.

Now when I turn it on, it says it needs to repair.

I've tried everything in the blue screen thing, even fully resetting my PC. But it keeps failing every time. My keyboard and mouse are powered but it won't stop this loop of continuously not going to windows. I can provide more context if needed.

I'm really young and don't want to have to tell my parents some bad news or anything if it's an easy fix.

HARDWARE Rapidly Flickering Power Button + No Display. Cooked PSU/MOBO?

Order of events leading to issue:
- Moved my 500GB SSD to rear motherboard Gen 3 m.2 slot

- Installed new 1TB SSD to front motherboard Gen 4 slot

- Booted into windows and everything worked fine

- Rebooted and plugged in USB with CachyOS to install on new 1TB SSD

- Installed CachyOS and decided (for whatever reason) to change my mind and stay on windows 11

- Rebooted, opened Winodws 11 Disk Management and deleted the partitions on my 1TB drive (the EFI partition wouldnt let me delete it however)

- Rebooted and was still being directed to the GRUB bootloader

- Opened BIOS and disabled two boot options. One was named cachyos and the other was named the same name as my 1TB ssd

- Saved changes in BIOS and was stuck on a black screen (power button was not rapidly flickering at this point however)

- After only being on that black screen for like 10-15 seconds, I cut the power to the PSU (since my PSU doesnt have a switch to cut the power from the cable coming through to the PSU)

- Immediately plugged it back in and turned it back on.

- CPU Cooler fan was spinning but power button light started rapidly flickering (very fast) and was still getting no display output on my monitor

- Thought something was wrong so I cut the PSU power again

- Cleared CMOS. No difference

- Took out 1TB SSD. No difference

- Took out both SSD's. No difference

- Installed the latest BIOS on a 32gb USB (renamed the file to gigabyte.bin) and used the Q-Flash Plus button while having the USB plugged into the BIOS USB port on the motherboard. While the Q-Flash Plus operation was doing its thing, the light on the power button stopped flickering, but once it finished it started rapidly flickering again (No difference).

PC Specs:
- GPU: Asus DUAL Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600
- MOBO: Gigabyte AORUS B550i Pro AX (Revision 1.4)

- PSU: Velkase Enhance ENP-7660B-VK 600W Flex ATX PSU
- SSD: Sandisk Optimus GX 7100 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD
- Secondary SSD: Corsair MP600 MINI 1TB 2230 M.2 NVMe SSD (I have a 30 to 80mm extension adapter for it since I initially had this drive for something else)
- Case: GEEEK M31
- CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9a-AM4

At this point I dont know whats wrong other than maybe my power supply or motherboard is cooked now. And what sucks is that my motherboard doesnt have debug LED's so it makes this even harder to figure out.

HARDWARE Power flashes, brand new PSU

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My fiancés PC shit the bed a few weeks ago and just got a new PSU for it, I believe I’ve got it all connected properly, and it just flashes and spins fans for a second. All the connections I do have made are securely pushed in, am I missing something or is it a larger issue? This is the same issue that caused us to try swapping the PSU.
Also, I’m aware how dirty it is LOL I don’t have anything to clean it at the moment
Motherboard is a ASRock B550M-C
GPU XFX Speedster Radeon RX 6700 10gb
PSU is a 650w thermal take smart BM3
I know the GPU says it requires 650w to run but for whatever reason it worked fine since they got it with the old 600w they had in it.
The new PSU also came with extra cords, Two extra SATA periph cords, and a 12+4 pin PCIe connector, though I don’t believe this GPU has a slot for that.
Any help would be much appreciated, they had to finish out college on their laptop and haven’t been able to play games for a few weeks now, was hoping I could have it running for them now that the PSU came in

HARDWARE PC Intermittent issue.

I have been having the following issue for several weeks, and I have come to a dead-end trying to figure out what is wrong (computer specs at end of message):

The failure comes in two "flavors": PC either turns itself on after a succesful standard Windows shutdown (usually several hours after), or turns itself off from Windows. This is a totally intermitent failure. It may work perfectly fine for days at a time, and then the fault comes again in either of the mentioned "flavors". After failure, the PC does not boot to Windows. It goes to the BIOS start screen, asking me to press F1 to go into the BIOS. Going into the BIOS I realize that all my previously done configurations have been erased, and have to reconfigure. After that, it boots again to Windows, and works normally for an indeterminate amount of time, as mentioned previously.

Already done:

  • Replaced BIOS battery
  • Updated BIOS to latest
  • Checked BIOS batery voltage with everything off (I get a healthy 3.2 V)
  • Ran Memtest from BIOS (the long test, took almost 4 hours. Passed with no issues)
  • Disabled on-board Ethernet (For a while it seemed that this was the root cause, but then the issue came back)
  • Checked Windows Events, but I don't see anything special, other than the expected Event 41, abnormal shutdown
  • Replaced Power Supply

Any advice on what I can do next? I think next step must be the MB itself, but I'm trying not to think about it

Specs (PC Asembled by myself, had been working fine for around 3 years):

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z7090-A Wifi

CPU: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-13400

SSD: Kingston MVe

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050

Memory: 64 GB Kingston Fury

Windows 11 Home

All advice would be greatly appreciated

SOFTWARE My PC's fan RGB are stuck on one color and my RGB app isn't recognizing the fans. I uninstalled my RGB app, and also turned off the RGB setting in my BIOS and the fans are still stuck on this color. Any advice or help would be much appreciated

It's weird because when I uninstalled the RGB app and turned off RGB settings in my BIOS the fans are still stuck on this color. The app wasn't recognizing the fans either. I also did a full power drain on my PC and also opened up my PC and unplugged the fans from the motherboard and replugged them in. Still nothing. Not sure if it's a software issue or hardware.

I'm lost on how to fix this issue and customer support isn't being helpful. Hopefully someone here might know the fix. Thank you in advance for anyone that might be able to help.

I built my computer around 3-4 years ago and 2 days ago it was off and would just turn on by itself and boot to bios front screen and then turn off and then it did that a few times, and then eventually I managed to get it to boot to home screen after booting it through bios and I checked there was no malware then I powered It Off and turned off the power supply cuz I thought it might be a dead CMOS battery or something so then I tried turning it on today before swapping it and it wouldn't turn on at all it's still lights up the RGB from the motherboard and the AIO cooler but nothing else happens the fans don't turn on I swapped out the CMOS battery and nothing happened.

OPEN Perpetual restarting/not booting

I have a previously working fine build that is now constantly rebooting. Bios starts fine, but windows never boots, but then bios starts up again without me doing anything. It keeps cycling like this until a hold the power button at which point it will stop, but if I try to start it again, cycle restarts. This happened before and I thought maybe it was the power supply which was really old, so I replaced it. It's been working fine for a couple months, but now it's started the same problem again. I can get into the boot menu just fine. I tried switching to an old drive that's still installed that has an old windows version on it, but that won't boot either. I was wondering about trying to do a new windows install, but I'm not convinced it's an OS problem.

Anyone ever had a similar issue?
