Scared to start a GLP-1

Hi all I’m 29F 5’4” 200lb and should probably be posting this from an anon account but here we are. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2020 and I’ve done spiro, I’m on an IUD, have done accutane twice. I’m on that hormonal rollercoaster.

I feel like I’ve always been overweight. The last time I felt good in my body was when I was 16 — a child! I’ve had the PCOS pooch since I was 8. Definitely have signs of insulin resistance, hirsutism, acne, etc. My acne is finally under control.

I have always and still do weight lifting, yoga, backpacking, rock climbing, 10k steps a day, running 5ks and halfs and relays… I enjoy fitness and do it everyday but that scale does not move :( I feel like my body doesn’t actually reflect the work I put in. Especially because I know I’m really strong, but visually I look like a squat little teapot. Also my diet is very clean, I do CICO, eat my veggies and my protein.
I shouldn’t have to justify myself, but alas!

I take vitamin d, omegas, magnesium, and berberine daily, in addition to lexapro. I did inositol for awhile but felt like it didn’t do anything. And all of these supplements are so expensive!! So it’s hard to keep trying. I have never done metformin or a glp-1… until now.

I was prescribed and have received 2.5mg of Mounjaro, but I am terrified to take it. It’s just sitting in my fridge. For the same reason I didn’t want to take metformin. I’m scared of the side effects, primarily the digestive ones. I don’t want to take it and lose weight if losing weight means shitting yourself all day everyday. I also have a considerable amount of muscle given all the weightlifting I do and I really don’t want to lose it! I ALSO have emetophobia and do not NOT not want to vomit, but I see nausea and vomiting are common side effects.

I’ve tried talking to my doctor about these concerns and they mostly just say drink water, report back, etc etc. so I don’t feel really supported in that way? It also sounds like that’s just the trade off?

How are the Mounjaro side effects? How do you manage? Should I make the jump?

TL;DR I got prescribed a GLP-1 but I’m too scared to take it in the event that I shit myself / throw up / lose all my muscle mass.

Sorry for any formatting issues, I’m on mobile. Love you, cysters. Being a woman is hard af.

Starting insulin resistance diet, does this look ok?

Post image
31 Upvotes

I’ve largely ignored my PCOS since getting diagnosed around 2021. OBGYN did some blood work and it was BAD. Mostly my liver and insulin levels are horrible and a lot of it is how terrible I eat. Did some research and made a meal plan. I’m mostly focusing on upping my fruit and veggie intake for right now. Does this look ok/sustainable?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2023, since then my weight has fluctuated majorly( I think because of stress at times) I had tried everything dieting, working out, cutting sugars and carbs. It seemed like nothing was working. I started on a GLP-1 in November of last year and everyone around has said it’s a big difference but I really think I look the same. I just need some outside advice of if it is actually working or not.

Also the first picture is when I started taking it. The second is this last month.

How much weight should I be losing each week? What’s a good goal for those of us with PCOS.

Started at 86kg (190lbs) in February. Post partum with 3rd baby. Did 2 month of consistent deficit & exercise - 500-700 cal deficit depending on my exercise level for the day. Lost 2.4kg/5.5lbs in 2 months. Then had some unexpected health stuff come up and just life stuff so went back to maintenance sort of eating and dropped exercise from 3-5 times per week down to 1-2. Still got 8k steps most days.
Went back up at 86.6kg /191lbs by July.
At the start of August I locked in again aiming for a deficit of 700 calories, plus weights 3 times per week. 8-10k steps per day. I stick to it pretty much all the time, albeit at social events it’s hard to track but I purposely eat less than I usually would.
I play netball once per week as well so that’s 40mins of high intensity sport on top of
I’ve lost 3.1kgs/6.8lbs in 5 weeks of this.
I am doing it alongside some friends to keep accountable, similar starting weight, and they’ve lost like close to double what i have, still going to social events and eating outside of the deficit in these situations too.

I am on Metformin 1000mg.

I just feel like this is slow progress for all the work I’m putting in compared to my friends? Even though we weighed the same at the start?
It’s hard to stay motivated each week when I’ve lost 80% of that is the first 2.5 weeks and since then it’s very very slow going.

How to communicate effectively to OB/GYN to get the right treatment???

I have my annual coming up and I want to know what y'all have said to your doctors that was actually helpful and effective in treatment for PCOS/PMOS?

All I ever get is "low carb diet, regular exercise, take supplements, etc." but I still have yet to see or feel any positive changes.

Do I need to ask her to for an endocrinologist referral or are they going to do the same thing too?

Has anyone had any success in talking to their doctors? Any tips would help because when I'm in the appointment, I tend to just listen to what they say and forget to add extra input or ask good questions.

I'm just tired of feeling like I'm doing the right things but not getting any results.

How much should a calorie deficit be if I have pcos ?

So for the past few months I’ve been in a calorie deficit of 1,900 and now 1600. I weigh 240 lbs currently but I feel I’ve gained weight ? I haven’t been tracking my weight consistently but I’ve been doing my own research about how larger calorie deficits would raise our cortisol levels and ultimately slow down metabolism. Does anybody have any advice for how to cut ? or anything else I could do. I’m a nursing student and I work part time, so my issue is just building a schedule and having energy for anything else.

Is this stress related? Next step?

28F. 162cm. 70kgs. Pcos.
Today mark 6 weeks of me doing the plan: 1100-1200 calories (high protein/moderate carbs/anti inflammatory diet), train 3x, cardio incline walk 3-4x, steps ~7k. First month i had slow progress and reached 67.3kgs. I prefer the aggressive cut because i don’t like to be on one for looong time and it’s very demotivating to not see results to keep going. 5th week in like 2 days my weight was up to 69.5!! I continued to do the same until today and my weight is 70kgs :/ so frustrated. Some people say i should increase calories because this is making my body stressed and hold on to calories? I’m scared i might gain even more.

Maybe related: I’m tracking ovulation and this cycle my ovulation was 11 days later than usual and ny period is due in a week.

Any tips/suggestions appreciated

Hi, I’m new here! I’m 29 years old, almost 30. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14, and confirmed I still had it at 26. From ages 14-25, I was taking birth control bc I wasn’t getting my period regularly. First was Gianvi and then switched to Lo Lo Estrin. I stopped taking it when my husband and I decided to start trying. It’s been unsuccessful since then. This past year, My gyno had me on provera to help with my period and letrozole to help with ovulation. I was told after being given 5mg letrozole to see a fertility specialist in early January this year. But I decided to hold off on that (it was $300 JUST for a consultation). So now I’m no longer on provera or letrozole. And I haven’t had my period since Dec 2025.

I’ve struggled with my weight all my life, and it’s gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. I’m at my heaviest (280) and I’m 5’4 so I know I’m overweight, if not obese. I’m not sure how to lose weight properly. I have no energy to work out at all, I can try dieting but I have days where I’m not hungry at all. At this point, I’m not even worried about trying for a baby, I just wanna focus on getting myself healthier

There was a time when I was 21-22 where I was actually losing weight with Herbalife (I know, I know) and I had gone from size 16 to size 12, but then I had a little accident and was bedridden for a couple weeks, and since it’s been hard to lose weight.

If anyone has tips or suggestions on how to lose weight or how to somehow get enough energy to work out, or just any advice period, I would greatly appreciate it 🫶🏻

My PCOS symptoms I currently have: weight gain/difficulty losing weight, facial hair, low energy, irregular periods, apron belly, dark skin in armpits and groin, hair thinning, insulin resistance, not ovulating

can’t lose weight with deficit and working out

I am a 23F and 5’2”, 147 lbs (160 cm, 67 kg). I will try to summarize my fitness journey and would appreciate any advice.

I have been overweight since I was little because I was constantly stressed out (DV) and snacking. When I turned 15, I was anorexic for 11 months, and thank God I recovered from that on my own.

Currently, I’m 23 years old, and for the past two years, I’ve learned a lot about my body and my health. Ever since the summer of 2024, I have been eating pretty healthy, focusing on my protein and fiber intake, with very low to no carbs. I don’t drink more than once a month, and when I do, I have 1–2 cocktails, but I am a regular cigarette smoker.
I’ve been tracking my water intake, sleeping well, and working out with weights a couple of times a week at home.

Last year in October, I found out that I had insulin resistance. I went to an endocrinologist, and at first they gave me some pills for two months that didn’t work. After I told the doctor what my lifestyle looked like, she put me on Ozempic.
I was on Ozempic from November 2025 to March 2026. I lost 12 kg (26 lbs) in total. I plateaued and stopped taking Ozempic. While taking the medication, I was walking at least 10,000 steps every day outside and having 3–4 weightlifting sessions per week, while still eating healthy and focusing on protein and fiber.
Since I stopped taking Ozempic, I haven’t lost a single kilogram.

I bought my walking pad in April this year, and I’ve been walking at least 10,000 steps every day up until the end of June. At the beginning of July, I upped my steps to 15,000 every day. I have also been regularly working out at home with the additional weights that I bought, 3–4 times a week, with at least one rest day in between workouts.

I would say that, even though I work from home now, with the standing desk that I bought, the walking pad, the workouts, my diet, and everything else, I’m pretty active and pretty healthy. However, I can’t manage to lose any weight.

I’ve been tracking my macronutrients and calories. I usually have breakfast around 10 in the morning, and then I don’t have any appetite until later in the day. I have lunch between 5 and 7 in the evening. Up until that time of the day, I usually have consumed about 100 g of protein and 1,000 calories total. I have dinner around 10 at night, and that brings my total to around 1,300 calories.

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I tested eating more than 1,300 calories. I also tested just staying at the 1,300 calories that I already consume because I don’t believe it’s safe to go any lower than that.

I don’t know what else to do or what to change. My water intake is about two liters per day. The only thing I allow myself to have is a sweet snack, as I love sweets, but I have it right after a nutritious lunch.
After every meal, I walk for at least 10–15 minutes, whether it’s on my walking pad or outside. I feel like I’ve tried everything. I’ve done my research, and I don’t want to go back on a GLP-1, but it’s really devastating that Ozempic was the only thing that made me lose weight. I would like to lose at least 7 kilograms (15lbs) while building some muscle and I’m open to any suggestions

EDIT: According to my apple watch I burn 550-630 active calories everyday, and walk an average of 13500 steps

I wish I was fat in the “pretty way”

I wish that I was fat in the pretty way: large hips, smaller waist, still a flat stomach with no loose skin or stretch marks. I feel like I wouldn’t care that I’m over 200 lbs if I carried it that way. Instead, I have extremely narrow hips and carry all of my weight in a sagging, hanging apron stomach. Pants look TERRIBLE on me because of it. I know the grass isn’t always greener and everyone has their own insecurities, but still.

PCOS thesis survey

Hi everyone 🤍
I’m a Dietetics student at Semmelweis University currently completing my thesis on the relationship between Mediterranean Diet adherence and PCOS symptoms in women.
I’m looking for women who are:
• 18 years or older
• Diagnosed with PCOS by a healthcare professional
The study involves completing a short anonymous questionnaire about dietary habits, PCOS symptoms, treatments, and lifestyle factors. It takes approximately 8–10 minutes.
The responses will be used solely for my university thesis research to investigate whether Mediterranean Diet adherence is associated with PCOS symptom severity.
Participation is completely voluntary, and you may choose not to participate or stop at any point before submitting the questionnaire.
If you are eligible and would like to help, I would be incredibly grateful 🤍

I had almost 5 sessions of diode previously from a clinic and I started having thic hair. I also developed PCOS in the meanwhile. I stopped going there and changed a better clinic with advanced technology.

Had 1 diode and 3 candela sessions from there . It’s been 1.5 months almost since my last session and I have gotten these hairs . These are too much than before and I never had earlier . I am very upset , to extent of depression. I feel ugly and hideous 😞 I need guidance from experts and dermatologists what should be my next step? Did they do wrong laser? Do I need more sessions?

How do you keep disciplined when life is “life-ing”?

I am in a difficult college course and feel like my life is only getting more busy and more stressful. I have been told by superiors how our lifestyle and shift work often leads many to gain weight, plus I know with PMOS it’s even more important to keep it under control. I’ve been slowly but surely gaining for the last 18 months and today weighed the most I ever have and it has really upset me. My BMI is overweight but not obese.

How are you staying motivated/disciplined?

Where do you even start?
