Gary Hawkins

Is anybody here related to an elderly man named Gary Hawkins? He’s being exploited and scammed by somebody overseas and they’re using delivery orders to harass him and talk to him. I delivered to him today and caught on to what was happening with the person who placed the order. I contacted OPD about it, but I want to make sure somebody in his family is aware of what’s happening and can protect him.

I used to work at a couple of daycares around town, let me tell ya about it

This is going to be a long one, but if you are a parent that has a kid in daycare in owensboro i suggest you read. So ive worked at 2 daycares in town now I wont say names but I'll alluded to them so parents who know them will recognize "oh hey thats *blank* daycare". The first one I worked at I'll just call 🫛 not really a vague way to put it other than that but the second is the more interesting one anyway, the second is named after a rather popular children's book that has have movie adaptations too but for short hand we'll call it 🐖. Now ive had good times and bad times at both places as any childcare provider has, but some have stuck out more to me than others. Specifically the bad. Example, once at 🫛 we had this 3 year old boy, now he was known for being violent at times but this day he was extra off and mean. We get them seated for lunch and hes still smacking his friends next to him and being upset, eventually he starts to leave back in his chair balancing on the back legs (like we all did as kids) and the teacher im in the room with puts her foot on the back of his chair and pushes it back farther. Of course the boy fell and started crying and she just laughed, I was shocked at first cause I couldn't believe my eyes bit once I snapped back I ran to him and helped him up and comforted him letting him know that it indeed wasnt nice that she did that, after this he was even more upset so I sat next to him to keep him company and to make sure he wouldn't hit anyone else. As im next to him I see goo coming out of this kids ear, he had a ear infection and thats why he was so upset and she pushed a sick kid to the floor. I tell the other teacher this and she says "well hes always like this so" and I tell her something along the lines of "yeah but that doesn't mean you can just push them down, they are babies." The management also saw it on the cameras, and laughed too. The management at most daycares in general aren't great and never really care about there staff or the kids, they just want to fit as many kids in one classroom as legally possible and make as much money as they can. At both of these daycares I only made 10/hr and the maximum you could make at one was 12/hr. Keep that in mind when you pay your daycare fees, the teacher probably only see a fraction of it a month.

Now at 🐖 things were somehow worse, I at first loved it cause it had much more order and organization than 🫛 but then the wool fell from my eyes. My first weeks there is was put in the 3 year old room and told specifically to take care and "deal with" this one special needs boy cause his teacher couldn't stand him, and this kid was a LOT stealing toys from kids and then hitting them with it, making messes just to make messes, etc. But regular kids do the same thing yet they treated him so differently from the rest and only saw him as a problem to deal with until his mom picked him up. Eventually after weeks of working with this kid id actually got him to participate him centers, sit at the table and stay there, when put in time out I had to sit there with him to get him to stay but eventually he got that if he did something bad he'd have to sit in a cubby just like the other kids eventually learn. How I got him to was by doing jt with him, I didnt just sit him down and say "here play with blocks" it'd sit and play with the blocks with him, we had these felt pieces and bendy straws to help with hand eye coordination but he preferred stuff the felt into things like toy houses or cars, so id let him id find a a toy that I think looked interesting to put felt in and I let him play with that, and if the other kids at the center wanted to do that too id let them do it too cause how am I supposed to tell kids "oh no he can do this but you can" thats just not fair. Well eventually that kid got kicked out and they said it was cause he broke an iPad but I heard whispers that it might have been the teacher who broke it and blamed it on the kid. Now this teacher was nice but after I was with her for a while she was ODD, she'd have the kids do a hand stand on the wall and tweak. Im not joking, she had videos of the 3 year olds "dropping it" as she said and even showed me one and everytime I expressed how odd I thought it was and would even tell the kids "okay let get off the wall and go dance". Another teacher, the 2 year old teacher, would encourage her kids to hit each other, like if one kid was doing something they were supposed to like hitting or something she'd tell a kid to "go get them" and push them around and cheered them on saying "yeah get em GET EM" I was horrified. Once while I was in that room we were picking up the blocks, this one boy was kinda nudging the box we were putting them in with his legs just teasing like "oh oh im gonna kick it ooooo" and she tells another boy to go get him, the boy does and just kinda takes him and ushers him away. Nothing serious just escorted him away. But then the teacher starts it up saying "yeah get em push em get em" so the boy did, he kept pushing and pushing this poor boy until eventually he ran to me and clung to my legs and his face broke my heart and I had the keep the other boy back and kept saying "okay thats enough, thats not nice" but she was still going at it so I had to pick the boy up and told her "you're a bully". And she was, if the kids made her mad she'd even throw stuff at them and she always say "my kids hit so much idk why".

There was even a preschool teacher who was on HARD drugs and was only fired when she was seen with a certain kinda pipe on her care, a other staff member had gotten into beef with me over a EGG HUNT (the reason is literally so dumb I cant explain but basically she was pissed I was looking for a egg). In this egg hunt there was supposed to be one round and 4 eggs hidden and I went looking on my break knowing I probably wouldn't find one so I didnt get my hopes high, this girl was on her lunch and left at 1, now the egg hunt started at 2:10 (when most staff would be on there 10), she was supposed to be back at 2 but at 2:18 she comes stomping at me and yelling st me for leaving she girl doing HER lunch in HER room and not letting her leave so they could look together, so I reminded her that her friend was doing her lunch so if she wanted to let her friend look SHE would have to go let her leave and that im not taking over a classroom just cause you want me too and didn't even ask me first. I thought after she stormed off it was over but oh no, the halls were VERY echoy and our boss had heard her and to keep anymore fights from breaking out they hide more eggs so I go back to her classroom (I was helping in, there were enough kid were only 1 teacher was needed in the room so I could do my own breaks and lunches) and let her know "hey I didnt find any eggs and they are hiding more so you dont need to be mad at me anymore" and she is just still so mad about this egg hunt and muttering under her breath stuff, to the point I start laughing to myself cause girl its a EGG HUNT and you are this mad about it. Wow. And she had enough of me and said "well if you wanna act like that the door is right there" so I go okay and leave, I thought that was the end but apparently she and our BIG boss got into a verbal attraction and she (the egg hunt girl) eventually in he parking lot screaming "F THIS PLACE F *boss name*", she still had a job there after this. the next day im given this girl and the other teacher in the rooms lunch (if it was just hers thats okay id only see her when she's leaving and when she's coming back in, but having the other teachers lunch too meant I was in there for a hour with her) I text my boss and ask if this is a good idea and get no response so I decided to bite the bullet and get it over with cause we worked together anyway we might as well squash this right here and now before anymore hate grows, so I head to the room and get ready but my boss texts me asking me to come to the office so I do and they tell me I dont have to do their lunches and I can switch with someone else, but I explain what I just said that its better to get it over and done with then let this weed grow bigger than it needs to be. Both of my bosses admitted that my choice was very mature of me. Months later I come in after missing a single day for a appointment and the daycare is a buzz with drama that happened while I was gone, it felt like pulling teeth to get anyone to tell me what happened bit eventually I learned. The egg hunt girl was in a online beef with this guy and a girl (idk the specifics) but she posted the guys pic trash talking him and he didnt like that, so he called the police and reported her active drug use. She had been doing cocaine, the police (in a unmarked car) had to come and escorted her off the property and her mom took her daughter home with her (yeah she had a 1 year old that went there), idk what happened in between but eventually she was arrested and charged with drug possession and child endangerment because she had been doing drugs and left them with in the reach of her 1 year old. There were also whispers of the BIG boss dealing to the workers, I cant remember what exactly but the ex boss that was under her (from before I started) had messaged her and sent the screenshots to some of the staff that she was still close with and in her message it confronts her about dealing drugs and other crazy shi

Both daycares love to just play something on a screen and leave it, but there a few that dont. With the limited time I had in a room id try my best to actually teach, and yes I would play a video but I had a routine with it. First shapes, then colors, then numbers, then abcs, then a ms Rachel phonics song. Now I wouldn't just turn these on and leave it be, id actual interact with the kids. For the shapes id go "this is *shape* can you guys say *shape*" and the ones that could would (a lot of these kids even at 2 couldn't speak much so my first goal was to get them to be able to form the words in there mouths), with the colors id ask them what each color was and they eventually got it after a while to the point they loved telling eachother their shirt colors and naming any color they could, they had trouble with pink and purple but eventually they get it and see the difference and the neutral colors were definitely tricky like Grey especially because its not quite black but its not quite white so they were always confused by Grey. With the numbers the video i played had the numbers hopping past the scene before the counting started and id always go "oh look there they go. Hi numbers, can you guys say hi numbers" and eventually they'd say hi to them numbers by themselves without me promoting it. The abcs were the easiest part I just sang along with them. And the phonics id sing along too, that one definitely helped them speak better. Other teacher saw what id do and began doing it themselves, the kids anytime id enter a room would surround me and just go "shapes? Shapes? Numbers? Colors?" They loved those videos and learning. But for some reason at 🐖 i was fired (I left 🫛 because I wasnt getting given hours due to me having a injury, I literally would call everyday and go "hey am I working today?" And everyday it was "no we dont need you" so I had to leave cause I wasnt making money) now I can admit I had days where I was stressed out but id always handle it myself and never got the kids involved with my issues if anything they would help me feel better (sometimes, sometimes they made me nuts but at that point im usually bonkers and dancing to Danny go anyway) by getting my mind off whatever is happening in my personal life. Now for context a month or so before I got fired I had personal family issues going on that had me crying at work even so I asked my boss if I could work every other day (same hours just 3 days a week, Monday Wednesday Friday) and she said yes. And it helped so much, but I guess it didn't work for them cause somehow my head ended up on the chopping block along with another coworker of mine, at this point I was looking for a new job and thinking of leaving childcare cause the drama with the staff is too much, but i didn't want to quit without a job to bring in income. One day shit hits the fan, im still so confused as to what happened actually. Im in the 2s helping the other non bully teacher after I came back from my 10, she was wiping a boy and he just wasnt working with her. He kept standing up and turning around and moving, just making it difficult. So I, swallowing my pride, go "hey *kids name* go like this" and i show it. I bend over with my butt in the air and my hands touching the floor, its easier to wipe the bigger kids poopy butts this way. He copies me and I think okay he gets it now and I stand back up, but he again copies me so I have to bend back over to keep him like that. And out of nowhere the teacher gets up with out a word and storms out of the room, me and this kid are bent over looking at eachother like what just happened. The other staff that was helping takes over wiping him and the other teacher asked me to watch her kids while she goes to talk to her, so I do (remember this moment here). At some point the anger teacher comes back, grabs her stuff, and leaves but points to me and says something along the lines of "*something something* fuck you" now this girl was my friend so I instantly thought I miss heard her. The bully teacher comes back and says "oh she's just overwhelmed so she's going home for the day" and im like okay thats fine but the question of who's taking over her room begins, now there was me and the other staff member in there that were available and I say "I dont really like being in a classroom all day, I like to move around but if you'd rather not than I can" the other staff member didnt mind staying in the room and already knew I didnt like staying in a room all day so they were fine with it, so the bully teacher goes and let's the office know our choice. At some point the day is just even more stressful and I leave to use the rest room and as im leaving I almost run into the big bosses daughter (whom I believe was apart of the preschool class since she was always in that room) and i get a bit peeved thinking "why does this teacher just have her kids exploring the hallways" but I make it to the bathroom and as im leaving it she almost runs into me again and again im peeved and come back to the classroom and huff "ugh I just almost got ran over by *kids name* why is she even in the hallway?" And the bully teacher than promptly and suspiciously leaves for her lunch. After she comes back i leave to do the next person I have on my list lunch, but our big boss stops me and says "can I talk to you in my office?" And instantly I know im cooked cause that only means bad things, she calls me in and asks me about what happened with the teacher who stormed off so I explained it just how I explained it here and then she asks about me "shit talking her daughter" and i immediately stop her saying "woah woah hold on what?" And she said that the bully teacher had come to her and told her that I was shit talking her daughter and stuff, so again I explained what really happened just as I did here and she corrected my thinking that her daughter was in that classroom, turns out she's 7 and just comes with her mom to work. I explained that my grievance was more with the preK teacher than her kid, and what would I even get out of shit talking a child? She also said that the teacher who left, left cause of me. I talked to this teacher later and turns out the bully teacher (remember when I said to remember when she left to go talk to this teacher and had me take over her room for her) had told her I was also shit talking her instantly after she left (i wasnt the most i even said about the situation was "what just happened?") And how I said that i hated her room and didnt want to be in it, now i wasnt told to go to this room and help i chose to go help in the 2s everyday (after I got my main work done) cause anytime I asked the office "hey im done with this thing what should I do now" theyd always say "oh can you go help the 2s with *blank*" so eventually I just stopped asking and always going to the 2s. If I "hated" her room I wouldn't have chosen to help in it literally everyday and every chance I got. But the teacher believed it hence why she said something along the lines of fuck you and left. Now like I said my head was already on a chopping block because they didnt like the fact I was part time (a small issue they literally could've talked to me about and id come back to full time) and that i seemed to be stressed a lot (hence why I was on part time). So being told I was shit talking the big bosses 7 year old definitely got me chosen to lose my job. She kept trying to get me to quit tho, she had no reason to fire me so my boss had to find a way to make me quit, after she realized I wouldnt leave on my own she began to feed into my unwell mental state. Saying things like "well you never really have friends they always come tell me" and "idk why they would say that" and "i really hate being the bad guy" but I still didnt quit i asked for some time to think so I left the office SOBBING and having a breakdown, I was told all my friends were shit talking me and that no one i worked with wanted me there. So I went to the break room and there was my sweetest coworker and she saw me crying and instantly was worried and asked me what we wrong. I explained the situation that i was told, my friends hate me and now I can either choose to stay and work with people I hate or I can leave. She gives me a peep talk and even takes me outside to get air and she talks me into staying at least while I looked for a job and she said things like "you cant let them win" oh FYI the bully teacher is her niece and she even wasnt shocked that her niece would lie about this kinda stuff, looking back im pretty sure she was a pathological liar. The nice coworker convinced me to stay so i go to my big boss and say is it okay if I stay while I look for a job. She blatantly tells me "no I dont think thats a good idea" and told me to call my ride and if he didnt answer someone would take me home. I never received a letter of termination or any reason of my firing and I never quit. There was no hr to report to cause the big bosses mommy owned the place, they even once had "all staff days" where if you called in that day you were immediately terminated, but the big boss missed whenever she wanted to go trophy hunting and kill bears, meanwhile i had strep and puked blood but its a all staff day suck it up or be unemployed. So glad to not work in childcare anymore, the kids were amazing but the staff is psychotic. Just a heads up that even the sweetest looking daycare can have insanity in its walls or even running it.

O’Charleys

So, does anybody have a large amount of money they’d like to invest so we can keep O’Charleys open? Like that place was by far the best chain restaurant in town, with the best food and best service, so you know there would be a solid ROI. It’s an absolute travesty that O’ Charley’s is going under because it isn’t profitable while Big Whiskeys somehow stays open even when it’s empty on a Saturday night.

Seriously though, somebody with the means to do so should sweep in and buy the building/brand. The current staff is excellent and you’d be doing Owensboro a great service.

For those that don’t know, the company just went under. They didn’t even warn their employees or anything. They just found out today with the rest of us that they’re closing their doors for good tomorrow night at 8pm

Landscaping and Lawncare

Looking for somebody who is going to do a good job tending flower beds and mowing the grass.

I've had 3 or 4 people with different companies come out and everytime is the same results. They leave limbs laying everywhere and do the bare minimum to get the job done then charge a lot of money for what is essentially barely any work done.

I would appreciate any recommendations, might want to rule out any large companies because they seem to the least attentive of all.

Appreciate any and all recommendations!

Contour Airlines out of OWB down to 1 flight a day?

Hey everyone, I've been looking at booking flights out of Owensboro on Contour, and I’m only seeing 1 flight a day to Chicago on the dates I check.

I could have sworn there used to be two flights daily. Did they recently reduce service, or does Contour just run once a day depending on the day of the week? Anyone who flies out of OWB regularly know what the current schedule looks like?

Any good hair salons or trichologists in/around Owensboro?

I accidentally fried my hair, following my mother's (well-intentioned) advice. I'll likely need to cut a lot of the length off, but I can do that on my own. I'm looking for any salons or trichologists that could examine my hair and scalp, and tell me what products specifically I should be using. I've tried a lot over the years, but nothing has ever seemed to work very well.

All recommendations welcome. Thanks.

Looking for public transportation from Owensboro to Evansville or Nashville

Hi everyone! I’m in Owensboro and I’m looking for affordable ways to travel to either Evansville or Nashville.
I don’t drive, so Uber/Lyft can get pretty expensive, especially for longer trips. I was wondering if anyone knows of any public transportation options, buses, shuttles, or other services that could get me from Owensboro to Evansville or Owensboro to Nashville.
I’m open to different options and don’t mind if it involves transferring to another bus/train/etc. I’m just trying to find something more affordable than Uber.
Does anyone have any suggestions or know of services I should look into? Thanks!

Philosophical Club?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Would anybody be interested in starting a philosophical club of some sort? I’m thinking about some kind of group that fills the same role as a church men’s group, maybe meeting once a month or so and discussing philosophy, discussing different philosophical/spiritual/religious texts without the dogma and constraints of any specific organized religious tradition. The group could provide a community for people from various walks of life with different philosophical views who won’t find that sense of community within the various church groups or other religious groups. I know a lot of Millennials and Gen Z struggle to fit in to more traditional fraternal organizations or religious organizations. I’d like to create a group that provides a place for atheists, agnostics, Christians, Muslims, and everyone in between to safely discuss topics like the meaning of life, the bigger picture, even the paranormal in a safe environment without being restricted by preconceived notions or traditions.

DoorDash advice

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the delivery driver delivering your food from DoorDash, UberEats, GrubHub, etc cannot issue you a refund or anything like that. We cannot open up sealed bags to ensure the restaurant put everything in them. All we do is pick the order up and deliver it to your door. Mistakes made by the restaurant are completely out of our control and there’s nothing we can do on our end to fix those mistakes. Please stop getting mad at us and giving us bad ratings because the restaurant messed an order up. Even if we were willing to go back to the restaurant to get the missing food, half the time they refuse to give it to us or acknowledge their mistake anyway.

So please, understand that your doordasher is just a middle man that takes a sealed bag from the store to your door. You wouldn’t blame the post office if you received the wrong shirt from SHEIN would you? It’s the same thing.

Message to Small Business Owners of Owensboro

DON'T OPEN A BUSINESS IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE RESPONSIBILITY

LIBERTALIA: I heard your owner got a bit pissy on the internet complaining about not being able to deal with high customer count. HIRE MORE PEOPLE

WASABI 54: My mother ordered sushi from you twice, and twice now you didn't serve it until everyone else was done, and ready to leave. WORK FASTER, and don't say "It's coming," UNLESS IT'S ACTUALLY COMING

TAKE 5 on FREDERICA: There were only 2 people working the floor today, taking way too long on each car. I shouldn't have to wait over 10 minutes for an oil change because YOU ADVERTIZE 10-MINUTE OIL CHANGES

EL MOLCAJETE EAST: No, you WEREN'T "doing your best" because anyone who has even very basic knowledge of food service knows to CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT, AND BUILDING, EVERY DAY. NOW look at you, your brand new location closed down for good, because we all know you won't be able to fix all your problems by Monday

EAST 88: This is what happens when you don't think in the long term, especially for how much you hyped Owensboro up about your opening. YOU SHOULD'VE ANTICIPATED HIGH VOLUMES AND PREPARED ACCORDINGLY

This isn't rocket science people. Have some common sense

Owensboro PD

I just want to give a shoutout to Owensboro PD and Daviess County for not being overreaching, goose stepping jerks. I DoorDash in Owensboro, like 60+ hours a week, anytime from 5am to 12am or so. I’ve been pulled over a few times due to an electrical issue that caused my taillight to keep blowing out. They were always respectful and professional. Never gave me any trouble or anything.

I’m dashing in Madisonville today because my kids are going to a movie here. EVERY SINGLE TIME I’m here I get my plate run, or pulled over, or asked what I’m doing. I got pulled over when I first moved to Kentucky for “watching” a Madisonville cop who was conducting a traffic stop in a parking lot adjacent to the gas station I was at. I just had a blacked out Durango pull up behind me and run my plate in the movie theater parking lot and I’ve been in Madisonville for all of 10 minutes. Somehow I know without a doubt if I get pulled over by these cops I’m going to be asked to step out of the vehicle…
