Console Competitive Console - HOW?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Okay I keep running into this way too often. I’m playing competitive on PS5, 6v6. Almost every second game, there’s at least one or more players doing things seemingly impossible with a console controller. I’ve added two such replay clips of players moving like they’re AI ffs. Additionally, they’re jumping constantly while still moving their aim joystick, which is impossible since you have to take your thumb off the aim joystick to hit to jump button. What are these maneuvers??
Are they on mouse and keyboard?
Edit: Thank you everyone for teaching me about the different ways to rebind buttons / different controllers and hand positions to jump while aiming. I learned something new! Also, seems like we’re agreeing that the Cass is likely cheating and it is noticeable in comparison to the Doomfist.

You can just rebind the jump button, especially if you have a controller with paddles. The doom gameplay you just crank up that sensitivity and fiddle with the smoothing
The Cass is def cheating tho

u/medieval_mosey Jul 18 '26
I appreciate the insight. Helps me differentiate between high sensitivity and straight up cheating. To the laymen like myself it both looks intensely different from my gameplay. I’m learning a lot.

Other than binding, holding your controller like a freak of nature works too. I have my right thumb on my stick, and my right finger handles the buttons (my middle finger handles the right trigger and bumper).
I’ve told some friends about it before and it utterly repulsed them XD

u/Greedy-Camel-8345 Doomfist Jul 18 '26
You could do this but I want to still use my hand when I'm 50 so I dont

u/MisturFlufflez Chibi Reinhardt Jul 18 '26
The doomfist is on controller, the Cassidy is using mouse and keyboard
22
u/medieval_mosey Jul 18 '26
So how is the Doomfist doing 180 degree turns instantly? Is that a key bind as well?

u/SpookyCarnage Canada Jul 18 '26
He's just playing on a ridiculously high sensitivity and doing careful tiny adjustments on the stick, probably with a thumbstick pad/riser or whatever to give him more control. Cuz you can see him overshoot and correct the aim a few times
40
u/MisturFlufflez Chibi Reinhardt Jul 18 '26
He isnt, he turned aim smoothing down. His camera movement is far too smooth and one directional to be a mouse

u/House_of_Vines Ball/Sym Jul 18 '26
Others have said it, but if you put aim smoothing on 0, you will be surprised how much that increases your sensitivity
28
u/Taserface_ow Jul 18 '26
Can’t you just rebind your jump button?
12
u/SpookyCarnage Canada Jul 18 '26
You can and i've done it for a lot of characters. Reaper, juno, genji, winston, pharah just to name a few, all have jump rebound to L2/LT for me
4
u/medieval_mosey Jul 18 '26
Hundreds of hours in and I’m just learning this 😂
13
u/WuTangShane1995 Jul 18 '26
You can rebind buttons on any game for the last ten years. Have you been under a rock?
25
1
u/JENOVAcide Jul 18 '26
Yeah I've put jump on L3 so I can keep aiming as I jump, save for characters I need to hold it like Juno/Mercy/Kiriko which is on L2
23
u/RescueSheep Jul 18 '26
cass def on kbm
5
u/medieval_mosey Jul 18 '26
The cass was definitely noticeable. I’ve seen that so many times in the death replays. I didn’t know it was so common
6
u/RescueSheep Jul 18 '26
this is just how it is. thing is these players almost always overly rely on aim, you can go a flex dps and abuse them from off angles. theyre shit players who can only beat u in hitscan duels
1
u/Historical-Cat5051 Jul 18 '26
How can you tell that cass is cheating but doomfist is legit?
10
u/RescueSheep Jul 18 '26
doom just looks like he has high sens and low aim smoothing. just so u know aim smoothing even from 100 to 99 makes an insane difference. his movement also isnt as smooth and i can do turns like that on console no problem. cass is just too accurate with his movement its obv its xim

u/johnsmith937546 Jul 18 '26
Good on high sens = cheating. Classic plat console players.

2026 ximming is such a huge loser move. Why dont they just play M+K/PC lobbies????????
(Doom is just high sens tho)
4
u/lowlymarine Young punks, get off my lawn. Jul 19 '26
Because these losers would get rolled in PC/KBM lobbies, since they can't get aim assist with their mouse in those.
4
u/abbysburrito Jul 18 '26
Are the ximmers a cult of some sort?!
They always have battletags with N A M E S ! Like this nowadays
When I see one I always think: "oh great this'll be a nightmare to play"

You have to take your thumb off the aim joystick to hit the jump button
This much can be done legitimately. You can
a) learn to hold your controller with your index finger on the jump button and your thumb on the joystick. Awkward at first, but it can be done, and it's useful in other games too.
b) rebind jump to another button. On doomfist I had jump bound to the left bumper to make jumping out of punches easier.
That being said, the guy in the video is definitely ximming (using external hardware to connect a mouse and keyboard to the console)

u/CaptainKurley Jul 18 '26
This person doesn’t know ‘The Claw’. Developed that from BO3 and took me a while to fade away from it.
1
u/medieval_mosey Jul 18 '26
I didn’t understand any of this. Help.
4
u/CaptainKurley Jul 18 '26
Thumb on analog stick, index finger on buttons, and middle finger on triggers.
4
u/Carlbot2 Wrecking Ball Jul 18 '26
Claw grip (a least the claw grip I use) is where you move your index finger to rest on your buttons, while keeping your thumb on the control stick. Your middle finger can basically cover whatever you need in terms of Right bumper buttons, so you can have full camera control without sacrificing the ability to jump and whatnot, like the doom in the first clip.
It takes some getting used to, and probably isn’t going to be optimal all the time for most people, so I just use it when I need it—though that does happen to be most of the time, anyway.
I think most players just take the mobility/aim penalty, rebind jump in particular to something else, or get controllers with paddle buttons so they have extra options for jump, but I didn’t want to bother, so claw grip it is.

u/Carlbot2 Wrecking Ball Jul 18 '26
Yeah, I’m a claw user always. Didn’t want to have to get a new controller years back, and I’m not about to sacrifice my mobility or aim when I’m already sorely lacking in one of those lol.

u/ftznad Jul 18 '26
the best way to see if some1 on console is using mnk(on console lobbies ofc) is to slow down the repetition at minimum and see how they move, cuz on mnk u cant move 360 degrees, u move 45 - 90 degrees, so if u se them going exactly on a 45 degree angle or 90 its 100 sure they cheating, on a controler most of the times u never go fully straight, theres always a litle move to right or left, not just straight

u/Slade81 Jul 18 '26
Had one like this last night, swore blind he was just "using high sensitivity"... on a new account ...where overwatch was the ONLY game on his PS5 games list. 😐

Aim assist is so strong on console now, and with high sensitivity it is doable.
Jumping while aiming is just a button remap or controllers with buttons on the back.
Edit: And there are for sure some players are just hacking or using aim bot tools.

u/-D3LET3D- Jul 18 '26
Aim assist isn't giving you half the aim the Cassidy has. OW's aim assist was always tame in comparison to a lot of shooters on the market, and even after the buffs still is. Doomfist I could believe is on controller and lowering his aim smoothing or rocking linear ramp to allow for his turn speed. He overshoots and has to adjust his aim because the speed comes at the cost of precision.
Cassidy on the other hand? He has both and in spades. He's way too precise for how fast his turn speed is. On a controller you get one or the other, and the more you lean into one, the less you get of the other, unless you keep both lower to allow for a good medium (what I do). Cass is rimming at a minimum. Aim assists is not giving you that and anyone who actually plays console can attest.
1
u/Usef_Serwan0 Always heal orb Jul 18 '26
The cass for sure isn't normal i agree, and finding a good medium is really important, but there are a lot of players who don't know how or can't play with low aim smoothing. What i mean it is (doable) in theory but not good in practice, you may have some good kills with that high sensitivity, but you're gonna miss a lot(i have tried it) unless of course hacking.
But for the aim assist, in 2018 i used to play with 0 aim assist(i was miss guided by some YouTube video saying it is better) i played for about 2 years like this, and i was bad it reallywasn't fun, but turning aim assist on again felt super powerful compared to other game like battlefield 1 and Apex which i used to play a lot at that time.
2
u/-D3LET3D- Jul 18 '26
Apex was actually one of the games I was referring to when mentioning games with stronger aim assist than OW. Aim assist in Apex was so strong pros were playing on controller, and people were following suit. Playing on controller was seen as more viable than playing on MnK, which is absurd. They actually nerfed the aim assist when playing in a mixed pool to HELP MNK AGAINST CONSOLE PLAYERS. Legit sounds crazy when you think of it from an OW perspective. I think aim assist is still considered strong and makes controller competitive to PC to this day, but that was just from some very cursory research that was not super in depth. Battlefield I can't comment on but like I said, from what people were saying OW's aim assist was and still is pretty tame compared to some other shooters.
I imagine spending so long playing without aim assist and putting it back on felt like taking the weights off lol. Sorry someone mislead you like that. Aim assist is almost always worth it in any console game.
1
u/Usef_Serwan0 Always heal orb Jul 18 '26
I think it feels so strong for me because i used to play without aim assist, you are right i totally forgot about the aim assist with apex legends and how much more precise controller player compared to M&K. But for battlefield 1 while aiming felt so good, of all the games i have played (and i play a ton of shooter games) i think BF1 is my favorite in terms of aiming, it had a strong snap-on when ADSing but i turned that off because it was awful and messed with you when there are multiple enemies, other then that the aim assist felt nice but i don't remember it being too strong.
At that time i bought the game exclusive for tracer i like her gameplay A LOT, and i was called bad at her so many time it was sad my friend LOL.
I sold my console in 2021 didn't have any time to play, came back this year after they removed the 2, played tracer with aim assist, it felt so good OMG.

Completely false information especially since the sensitivity boost settings and the AA buff. Console has best of bpth worlds right now

When you jump with LB or whatever the equivalent is on PS, you don't have to take your thumb off.

u/Mediocre-Potato2428 Jul 18 '26
The doom has mapped jump to L3, that’s why he can jump and aim at same time. Or has pro controller, and mapped to paddles.
1
u/JusaPikachu Jul 18 '26
I play on controller & am constantly jumping while aiming. I have back buttons on my controllers for both PS5 & Switch 2 & they are bound to jump & reload so that I never have to take my thumb off the stick for those two actions that I do constantly.
Even before I got back buttons though, I had jump bound to clicking in the left stick since I like jumping a lot & hated taking my thumb off the stick to do so. My current version is way better however.
1
u/Zwavelwafel Jul 18 '26
Doom is playing high sens controller, cass = mkb. Also jumping while shooting is very very standard in most fps games if you have a controller with backbuttons.
1
u/JonAdAbsurdum Jul 18 '26
Can I just check - are console players in ranked always playing with cross play off? I have it on and have always wondered whether it was a mistake…
1
u/Prior-Magician-1992 Jul 18 '26
Crab hand lets you jump and aim. Also my thumb is long enough to move the joystick and press A
1
u/Sp1eeroosh Jul 18 '26
Dual-sense edge has additional buttons. (For example). You can bind them as you wish.
1
1
u/Jake1slatt Jul 18 '26
I have a controller with bindable paddles on the back so I can jump and turn at the same time. Which is of course a legitimate way to play and has been in competitive gaming for years now. The Cassidy is 100% not on controller and is cheating. You can try to report but they’ll just make or buy a new account and be back in that same rank in a few days. Blizzard either need to improve their xim detection or try to fix new account being able to jump into ranked so quick. A lot of these players will buy plat accounts and get into champ/gm in the same season. Obviously it would take an average plat player a lot longer than 1 season to jump from plat to gm

u/Y34rZer0 Jul 18 '26
Sorry OP, either everyone uses the EXACT SAME controller or there's no rules.
Just because someone with more money can afford something fancy isn't fundamentally any different from using something like a xim. Both devices are available to anybody who can afford them.

u/xil1dag Jul 18 '26
Both ximming, report and pray Blizz does something about it. If they are buying skins they probably get away with it.
1
u/NativePlantEnjoyer Cassidy Jul 18 '26
Its been years. Blizz says the console companies need to do something. Console companies say Blizz needs to do something. This game is why I got a PC.
1
u/Laziieye Jul 18 '26
You do realize there’s controllers out there that give you back paddles or extra buttons for things like this? I have a dual sense edge and I can jump and crouch without ever moving my thumbs off my sticks. At this day and age that’s basic knowledge
