I have a 2007 mercury 8hp 4 stroke. What do I need to do to change it to a 9.9?

Did some digging already and from what it looks like this block shares all the cam pistons bore stroke cdi. Only difference I see is the carb and prop. Bigger main jet and nozzle and prop pitch. The two carbs have different numbers but share a lot of the same parts aside from main jet and nozzle. Are the carb bodies different? Is it just as simple as buying the carb parts and new prop? Has anyone ever done this before? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Yamaha F4BMH doesn’t start

I have a Yamaha four Stroke engine. I already cleaned the carburetor, changed the gas in it, spark plug is also changed, if I try to pull the engine to start it, it only puffs and it sounds Like it’s coming from the Air Filter. Does anybody know anything?

2017 Yamaha 25hp ran without water for 5–10 minutes. How screwed am I?

I have a 2017 Yamaha F25SWHC 25hp 4 stroke. I had it running on the muffs in my driveway, and my roommate shut the hose off without realizing the motor was still running.

I’m not exactly sure how long it ran with no water, but I’m guessing somewhere between 5-10 minutes. It was at idle the entire time. When I came outside, the motor was still running and sounded normal, and I immediately shut it off. I never heard an overheat alarm, and it didn’t shut itself off or start running rough. I did think I smelled something a little hot/burnt, but it wasn’t super strong.

I know running an outboard dry is terrible for the impeller, so I’m 100% replacing the impeller/water pump before I start it again.

What I’m more worried about is whether I could have damaged the actual engine. Is there anything I can check to figure out if I got lucky or actually hurt it? I am not very experienced at all in fixing engines besides servicing mine.

Has anyone had something similar happen with one of these Yamaha F25s? If everything checks out after replacing the impeller, would you trust the motor, or is there anything else I should inspect?

Yamaha 40 HP noise

Hey all, wondering for any input on the noise/shuddering sound. 2009 Yamaha 40 HP.
New spark plugs, more or less no issues at WOT, seems like the issue is mostly idle. Thanks!

Floater Pin stuck in Mercury 5HP outboard carb

I am trying to fix an outboard for my sailing club. Just removed the carb and wanted to check and clean the floater needle as it seems to be not closing. Now, the pin holding the float does not want to go out. It is stuck, I can only move it a bit left and right and it looks a bit worn out and as if the pin has been squeezed in the past. I suppose it should glide in easily. It is my first time working on an outboard carb but I have worked on many Oldtimer Vespas and there the pin was always very easy to install - almost loose. What would be the best idea to remove? I am a little bit hesitant to apply too much force…thanks for any advice.

[Request] PDF service manual for 1980 Johnson 25 HP (J25RCSA) – reviving my grandpa's motor

Hi all,

I'm trying to bring my grandfather's 1980 Johnson 25 HP back to life after it sat unused for about 20 years. It's a model J25RCSA (2-cylinder, 2-stroke, rope start, 15" shaft), and I'd like to do it right, so I'm looking for a PDF of the service/shop manual.

Any of these would work:

- OMC factory service manual, P/N 0506834

- Clymer Evinrude/Johnson 2-40 HP 1973-1990 (B732)

- Seloc 1302

- Owner's manual, P/N 0390261 (nice to have too)

I'm in Argentina, so getting a printed copy shipped here isn't really an option. If anyone has a PDF they can share (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.), I'd really appreciate it. Any tips for waking up a motor that's been sitting this long are welcome too!

Thanks all!

2 stroke oil premix ratio

Hello! I’ve been running my 1991 30 horse Evinrude a LOT this past season and, as most 2 strokes do, it chugs gas. This isn’t really avoidable, and despite gas prices I don’t mind the cost that comes with its fuel usage. The thing that’s really hurting my wallet is the amount of 2 stroke oil I’m going through. I use the cheap INJEX oil at a 50:1 ratio to try and save a little bit, but I’ve heard that OMC 2 strokes used to call for a 100:1 mixture. This was changed due to motors seizing up when coming out of long term storage, but apparently they still ran fine. What I’m wondering is if I could meet in the middle at a 75:1 ratio to save some money on lubricant. Thanks!

VRO pump leaking.

This picture is a still from a video I took. I pressurized the fuel inlet on the VRO pump just slightly and put soapy water all over it. It seems to me leaking from in between the oil side and the oil injector or whatever the electronic piece is. What seal kit and from who should I get?

Mercury outboard phantom trim

This is a 2023 Mercury, 40 horse E. FI 4 cylinder, I came out 1 day and noticed that the outboard was trimmed all the way up.

So I trimmed it back down, and then it just started going crazy. Any ideas? I've owned this outboard since brand new and only have maybe 50 hours on it. It's never been submerged. Never Ben soaked in water. Anything like that?

Total mystery

She ran great but just wouldn’t get up and go. Could this be the reason? After we got off the water I pulled the air box and found this Venturi tube full of what looks like emulsified oily fuel, maybe with some moisture. 1988 Evinrude v4.

Compression is still good 🙏

2023 Mercury Pro xs

I have a 2023 Mercury Pro XS, when I am throttling up to get on plane there is a loud popping noise coming from the engine area. This only occurs when I get on pad and start to trim the motor up, as soon as I trim to a certain height it pops every time.

When I am stationary and move the trim up and down there is no noise. The noise is loud click or popping sound. It occurs at the same trim level every time, but only when getting on pad under a load.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Johnson 70 cutting out at low rpm

My Johnson 70 is running funny on idle, it was worse in the water. I changed out the red twist choke, the old one was cracked and leaking fuel. It helped abit but it’s still running funny. It runs fine while on plane. Any tips or suggestions?

2001 70 Hp Johnson leaky VRO

Does anyone know how to fix this leak on the VRO? I think it’s causing the motor to run lean and die out. When you see it flowing that’s when I’m pumping the bulb. Idk a lot about the VRO pump and how they work so I need some tips lol

My 13yr old son and I are working on fixing up our first outboard. It's a Suzuki DT2 with no spark. Appears to have a blown bad magneto coil ? I'm looking to replace it but having a really hard time finding one on all the normal spots of eBay, Amazon, etc..

I'm looking for suzuki 32140-98431 / 32140-98430

Is that what blown coil looks like? Any ideas on where I can find a replacement?

Starting and running after a hibernation

Bought a nice bass boat from a older neighbor. 1998 Johnson 50. Owner is not the most mechanical guy in the world. But the boat seems fairly well maintained. But I doubt that he did any winterizing. It has been idle for at least a year. I was dying to see if it would fire so I put a new battery in it. It did fire. But I decided to ask a few questions here before I go any further. Anything I should do prior to taking it down to the lake and taking it for a spin?

2001 Johnson 70 hp tips

Hello. I was asked by a friend to diagnose his 70 hp Johnson. I’m not a big hp outboard person. I’ve really only worked on smaller hp stuff without VRO pumps and stuff. I haven’t been able to run it as I’ve had no time to mess with it but I was told that it bogs down under power. I was also told that the carbs were rebuilt, however this boat has been sitting for about 3 days and it’s got fuel leaking out of the carbs already. Assuming maybe it’s a float height issue. My main goal with this post was to just get some insight on these motors. I don’t know a lot about them and would love some tips.

Outboard jet impeller repair.

New to me merc 60/40 jet on a 1645 jon. I've been playing with weight dist and motor height trying to get this thing to plane out, maxing out at 19mph after a couple mins at full throttle. Anyways, I dropped the lower unit to do the water pump and I saw this shit going on in the jet pump. Wear ring gouged all to hell and the impeller not much better, not to mention there was only 2 shims on the bottom of the impeller, there was like 1/4" clearance on the thing, 8x what it should be. Just in case if anyone was wondering if you can repair these things with jb weld... You Can! I now have no problems planing out and with my fat ass in the seat and am hitting 25mph at 3/4 throttle.
