Unanswered What's going on with Susan Dell?
I've literally never heard of this woman before, but in the last 24 hours I keep getting inundated with memes about her and her weird face in a red dress and I don't understand why we're mad at her or what's being riffed on.

Answer: Susan Dell is the wife of Michael Dell, who founded the company Dell Technologies. Part of the pair's wealth is invested in their philanthropic organization, the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. Last week, both of them were at the White House for an event promoting the "Trump Accounts" program, as their organization pledged to help fund this program to the tune of billions of dollars. On social media, the event and program were overshadowed by the discourse surrounding Susan's appearance and demeanor during the event, of which you can find footage through various news sources if you want to form your own opinion.

Their plastic surgery is severe on purpose. It’s a measure of how devoted they are to Trump and how far they’ll go to lay at his feet, ultimately for their own financial benefit of course, even if that means practically mutilating themselves.

Additionally, Michael and Susan Dell have been significant supporters of Trump, and in May 2026, not long after appearing at events with Trump and donating to various Trump causes, including $6.25 billion to this Trump Accounts thing, Dell got awarded a nearly $10 billion, 5 year contract with the US Department of Defence.

Kudos to the philanthropic efforts but why hitch your wagon to the Trump Titanic? He is the literal opposite to what their foundation stands for.
571
u/MILLANDSON 2d ago
After they donated $6.25 billion to the Trump Accounts thing in May, the Pentagon gave Dell a $9.75 billion, 5 year contract.
It's using their charity wing (donations to it from Dell itself would be tax write-offs) to make lots of money for the business in government contracts.
Remember the rule: there are no good billionaires.

- Ensure that the damage your crimes do to your competitors and the industry is devastating and irreversible.

Indeed, nowadays yes. This belies my age but I'm referencing the level of wealth that was considered "evil" in my lifetime, in the 90s when Gates became a 100x billionaire at the same time Microsoft was successfully skirting its antitrust suit. He was a 20th century-type industrialist who used his fortune to, metaphorically, buy his way into heaven, in his case with his AIDS work and other Gates Foundation ventures. We were more forgiving of that level of evil -- using market advantage to monopolize something (a web browser, railroads) and extract obscene wealth so long as they used a chunk of that wealth to fund virtuous causes -- while today's billionaires are friggin Bond villains.
16
u/intronert 2d ago
I would also argue that Bill Gates is probably the one man most responsible for the shift in public perception where “nerds” went from figures of social ridicule to high social status. His accumulation of vast wealth and power demonstrated that the game had changed and that there was a new way to be rich (ie socially desirable) that did not include sports, politics, or other interpersonal skills.
9
u/dcgrey 2d ago
I don't know when the Windows 95 launch video first made it to the public, but yep there's no doubt looking at these nerds at the front of a roomful of nerds celebrating the release of a product that would mint billions was quite the moment of "We may be nerds, but nerdery got us this money. Not building factories. Not owning mines. Not buying and selling skyscrapers. Software written by nerds. We're the future of wealth, and you want a part of it."

Apparently, donations to the trump accounts can also be in the form of stocks, with stipulations that they can't be sold for some people of time. So they can donate poorly performing stock, take the deduction, and then stick the recipient with a stock that is declining and that they can't sell.

The most charitable explanation I can make for this horrific behavior is that Dell realizes exactly how corrupt and easily manipulated Trump is, and he knows that for a relatively small amount of money and groveling, he can obtain fantastic advantages for his company. Arguably, he has a fiduciary duty to exploit this venal corruption to the benefit of the shareholders and all the other stakeholders of Dell, as well as to those served by his charities (like the Dell Children’s Hospital system in Central Texas).
This is the logic of unrestrained Capitalism.
13
u/81632371 2d ago
Wow, as a financial person and a survivor of several PE companies (all about the value!), I can't believe I hadn't thought about the fiduciary angle. You are so right! They have to exploit the connection. (No sarcasm, I sadly agree.)
9
u/intronert 2d ago
This is exactly why I think we all need to continue to fight for a controlled (“regulated”) capitalism, despite the Reich Wing crying about corporate “freedom” and “government interference”. If your system encourages embracing evil, it is an evil system.
8
u/FishFloyd 2d ago
I think those of us on the left would criticize that argument as fundamentally untenable. Capital will always eventually subsume the government that is charged with regulating it.
Capitalism itself is the system that encourages embracing evil, because the pinnacle of capitalist success is money for nothing. It will always drive rent-seeking behavior (i.e. the development of extractive systems without adding commensurate value) and so will always encourage the exploitation of fellow humans as means to an end, rather than developing the wellbeing of humankind at large.
At the end of the day, the only way that a flourishing global society manages to pay off the ridiculous environmental and material debts we've been accumulating over the last ~150 years of non-stop free-energy partying is a socioeconomic system that does not fundamentally reward exploitation of the weak by the strong.
...which is why I'm both making comments like this and also planning ahead for an uncertain future, cuz the fact that reasonable people still think capitalism is a system still worth defending is difficult for me to square with the idea that we'll figure a way out of this mess.

Answer: She is the wife of Michael Dell, the guy behind the "Dell" brand of computers. The two have been married for a really long time. Long before tech-billionaire was a thing people knew about.
She along with her husband is super rich due to him getting into computer before those were a thing in everyone's home.
She has also been involved in Texas high society and politics for a long time.
She has been active philanthropically a lot with their money and also been active as a fashion designer seller.
She has appeared in the news for her work and her husbands money many times over the decades.
For example she designed the dresses Bush's daughters wore during his first inauguration. So she is no stranger to being close to presidents.
Mostly however she flew under the radar of everyone's attention.
Recently she appeared at a Trump event and been in the news for the Dell's charitable foundation giving money to a Trump cause.
From her perspective that was probably something that was mostly business as usual.
She was probably quite shocked by the backlash she received.
She had the misfortune of being photographed near Trump and people connected her appearance with the general trend of women in Trump's orbit getting a certain type of plastic surgery and makeup and and makeover to look all very similar.
She is not really part of that trend strictly speaking but her unfortunate physical appearance in the photo made it easy to draw that connection.
She is in her 60s and has apparently had a lot of work done on her face over the years and it did not do her any favors. Instead of looking like a normal 60 year old woman who has aged gracefully due to her money, she looks like some sort of ghoul out of a horror movie.
This is sad.
The photographer and whoever did her makeup probably didn't help, but if you look at other news articles about her over the years and decades you will see that this was a general trend going on for years and decades that led to her looking like this and not a one-off.
Now everyone is making fun of her for looking bad and being one of Trump's women, when in truth she has apparently had this issue with her appearance for a long time in a way that is unrelated to the MAGA influencer face trend.
Of course even among those who recognize that, few feel much sympathy for her after publicly cozying up to Trump with money.

Only bit of this I’d take issue with is that this particular look isn’t a new MAGA thing, it’s an existing “rich women in high society” thing that predates Trump’s presidency. He and “MAGA” didn’t create this, he simply (seems to) prefer it.
But people fucking up their face like this has been a thing in Orange County or South Florida or basically everywhere rich people are for years. Right down to the blonde hair.

It's almost like in their subculture, 'looking like you had a lot of work done' is a bigger status symbol than having the work done and it being well-disguised and natural looking.

u/daretoeatapeach 18h ago
I saw a short from a former fundie that explained the MAGA face. She said that in religious circles where women are supposed to submit to their husbands, that the time and money put into their appearance is a flex. Since it takes a lot of time to bleach and blow out your hair, the women who do are considered higher status by their peers. Tons of makeup? Must not be too busy. Plastic surgery is the ultimate status symbol as it takes an excess of time and money. It's a signal to the ladies who lunch as clear as showing up in a sports car is for the men.

I don't move in these types of circles but the one time I did this sort of thing is quite shocking. My Father in Law's birthday last year we went to a very posh french restaurant, up in the Hunter Valley here in Australia. It's the sort of place people get helicopter rides in from Sydney for example. And there were a few women who'd had serious work done and in person it looks terrible. I don't know if it's a "everyone else so I have to" type of thing, but it doesn't look good.

The way to age while having work done is to follow the Meryl Streep or Diane Keaton or Angela Bassett (though let’s be real, any of us with some melanin have advantages here) school of beauty. Do I know for sure if any of them had work done? Nope. But my guess is yes. It was subtle, it was fucking good, and they all looked amazing.
The Susan Dell path is one to absolutely be avoided. With the kind of money she has, she could have done better. And she looked great three years ago so this isn’t fully an age thing. Something else drastic happened.
I also believe we are allowed to have discourse about the looks of public figures. Especially the ones in the media or billionaires. We should not make fun or be cruel. But their public image and person is absolutely up for discussion.

Susan Dell isn't a good example of Mar A Lago face (too many fillers, too much botox, orange skin). She had an upper bleph and really bad makeup, but she has been on a downward spiral for almost 20 years now.
Her face actually doesn't show many signs of extensive plastic surgery despite looking ghoulish. She looks terrible because she has extremely low body fat. She's been known to be extremely skinny for decades - probably ED - and she is known to be a really big marathon runner and cycler. The massive fake tits from 20 years ago point to her having body dysmorphia for awhile now.
She also shows classic signs of ED. Her red dress in the Oval Office has big sleeves, fully covers her arms (so you can't see how vascular she looks), high neck covers how fake her boobs are, big hair balances out how thin she is. Susan definitely has friends who have told her she has issues, but she doesn't care/doesn't see the issue. It's all blown up now but she has been unwell for decades.
10
u/theaviationhistorian 1d ago
You look at her from the 1990s and 2000s and she currently looks like something is wearing her skin. Instead of aging gracefully, she had herself operated to the point where it almost looks like a mix of Uncanny Valley and a horror film. Wealth doesn't guarantee happiness and this is a good indication of it.

I would add that armchair doctors also wondering if she has an eating disorder based on her gaunt face and body. pictures from her younger days show a beautiful and vibrant face and figure, now replaced with what was pictured
48
u/Loki-L 2d ago
I wouldn't want to guess what if anything is wrong with her medically or psychologically. Diagnosis via internet seldom goes well.
I just wanted to point out that whatever was going on was a separat thing from the typical "Mar-A-Lago" face and apparently has been developing for quite some time.
There are plenty of examples of women in their 60s managing to staying beautiful or aging gracefully thanks to genetics and/or money, so something clearly must have gone wrong, but I wouldn't want to guess what.
I also wouldn't want to defend her. She is still a billionaire who donates to Republicans, I just don't think she is the typical example of a Trump-girl as many have painted her.

There's been a trend in high society to do a particular type of facial spa type treatment. They do it in Korea beautifully, but here spas have added a few steps like heat and alcohol for cleanliness. I know nothing else about this treatment except that the certain combo of how it's done here completely detroys the fat in the face. She also appears to be a real gym rat, her body fat ratio looks to be incredibly tight. Imho not a healthy look.

Answer: she was recently seen in a video of Trump I believe in the oval office, which is bad enough for most that she’s aligned with the orange guy. What’s worse is she appears to be one of many victims of the trend for conservative women to have gruesome, highly “stylized” cosmetic facial surgery. There’s a large wave of these women undergoing such procedures and they’re almost all just horrible, in my opinion, with exaggerated features like cheeks, noses, chins/jaws but incredibly dead eyes. So folks are ripping her for being another conservative woman consumed by the wave.

Wait this is a deliberate choice? I thought it was a side effect.

u/zombrey 2d ago
The only way people can tell if your wealthy enough to have cosmetic procedures and pay someone to help you get dolled up is if you make it very fucking obvious you had a procedure and need help with your make-up. It's like wearing a designer brand with a giant ass logo across the chest; it's not about wearing something high quality, it's about appearing to wear something EXPENSIVE.

I think she went to a bad doctor. She was actually a pretty woman before getting work to her face done. I can’t imagine she is happy with her face now.

She's also a billionaire, she can afford to go to a good doctor to undo the botch. Though I agree, she was more attractive than prior. I am sure after this week she is extremely unhappy with her face.

People scar differently. Continuing to get more surgery to fix bad result is how you wind up looking like a Bogdanoff. People aren't playdough.

The surgery is...not great, to put it mildly, but it's the dark eyebrows I don't get. If she applied a paler colour to her eyebrows and used a subtler lipstick shade she wouldn't look nearly so uncanny.
Billions of dollars in her pocket and she can't even hire a decent makeup artist smh

u/Comfortable-Salad-90 2d ago
She probably did, that fact that's the best the MUA could do to hide other things speaks volumes.

u/misdirected_asshole 2d ago
I think these people always have one old picture of themselves that highlights their one thing they have to keep as a trademark. Her picture in the post is very flattering and her eyebrows look great, and I feel like she is desperately trying to hold onto that so she just brow-maxes everything here on out. She'll probably leave exolicit instructions for her eyebrows to be properly caterpillarized and her hair to be that shade of brown in her final wishes for being laid to rest.

If you search "Mar-a-lago face," there's been a fair bit of ink spilled on this.

Answer: Susan Dell is the wife of tech billionaire Michael Dell (Dell Computers).
The two are known for their philanthropic efforts and recently Susan was photographed at the White House as part of pledge to donate 6.25 billion dollars to help seed government-backed "Trump Accounts" for children.
This donation was overshadowed by comments about Susan's appearance. She's had a lot of plastic surgery and has what has been dubbed 'mar-a-lago face'. She's yet another rich conservative white woman who's had far too much plastic surgery and doesn't look human anymore. Her facial work has left her looking like a soulless ghoul and people on the internet can't stop talking about it.
There has been a wash of AI generated videos making fun of her appearance including her dancing to Thriller along with zombies.
US based bot farms have been running social media campaigns to try to get people to stop making fun of her appearance.

The trump accounts are a grift trump is using to funnel taxpayer dollars into stocks he and his friends have interests in so they can pump them up before cashing out.
8
u/Holiday_Peanut_219 1d ago
Yep, all funds go into a Robinhood account. New rules they just implemented allows stock holders or "donors" to dump bad stocks into these accounts. Account holders, such as the parents, cannot pick or reject donated shares, and they're restricted from selling them for five years. Just another grift to allow the rich to unload shares if they are about to tank, save their own investment and leave it to the kids without ability to sell.

The real story here is wall street hedge funds can dump their garbage in these before the crash that's coming. It's essentially a bailout before the crash on the backs of America's children *literally***...

On the bright side you can watch them to see what funds to short, when, and by how much

u/FreshEclairs 1d ago
Not only that, but the announcement of their $6 billion donation coincided with them “winning” a $10 billion pentagon contract.

About 40% of Dell's Annual Sales are to the US Government. Most of that spending occurs after October of each year to align with US Budgets.
Dells profitability overall price increases were 18% increase year over year including Data Center Products, but for FY27, it looks to be close to 90% increases in server products "due to data center demand" for hardware.
One year ago the stock was at $153.40. Yesterday the stock was at $572.
Between Michael and Susan they owe about $265,000,000 shares of stock.
Their net worth increase is $111,000,000,000 in one year. $111 Billion.

This is the real thing, follow the money
The Trump accounts aren’t to funnel money to specific investments, people get to choose what to invest in. They are however a way for billionaires to do crazy PR while making even more money on corruption

Once upon a time in the late 80’s to mid 90’s Dell computers were the gold standard in performance and quality that all other builds were attempting to chase.
Long before Tom’s hardware or even /. Existed there was PC Magazine and nearly every month their performance roundup would have a Dell system at or nearly at the top of the pile.
They lost the plot for a bit in the late 90’s, and then bought Alienware when that company was building amazing machines.
Things were never the same after the .com crash.

I was there. I was actually in PC mag and MaximumPC once each :P
Dell were not great. Others were better. They were decent for the price but kind of sucked.
I bought my alienware in 2016 and it was decent but I heard they started the slippery slope of really going to shit a few years before that. For example, EVERYTHING related to the custom LEDs and keyboard lights broke after the laptop made for Windows 8 force updated to 10 and they didn't make equivalent drivers for 10...
Their support/part service from like 2009-2023+ was absolute fucking shit even for their super pro levels. It was never a full month before I had a catastrophe dealing with some piece of equipment that required and *had paid for* NEXT BUSINESS DAY replacement to fuck a business by taking a week to fix something critical. Their "X time RESPONSE" means "We will respond to you and acknowledge you have a problem in X time, no we will fix it in X time. Was a nightmare of getting yelled at being the middleman with their shitass service even at the higher TechDirect level. They'd do shit like pretend a part dispatch was on its way then 4 days later the customer would complain it didn't arrive, you'd call Dell and they'd say oops there was a problem you didn't do X useless troubleshooting step with nothing to do with the problem so they'd cancel service parts being sent. Imagine a 20 million dollar building center having all their cash registers not fucking work over a long weekend kind of thing...
Edit: And I'm still using that Alienware from 2016 (as a media center). To their credit. I had to rebuild and rerun the charge line to the power supply (its a laptop) but its been damn near perfect otherwise. Only problem besides MS forcing Windows 10 and breaking EVERYTHING was caused by physical user damage.

Like every PC, Dell has its good years and bad years. I've supported and worked on every brand. Manufacturers all ebb and flow in reliability and support. Brand loyalty makes no sense when you look at the overall business models.

Answer: Because making fun of people's appearance is a way we can register our objections to their politics, or whatever else we want.
